Underhood Wiring problems of the 1996 Chevrolet S10

Four problems related to underhood wiring have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Underhood Wiring problem

Failure Date: 02/26/1999

Trailer harness shorted causing dash light fuse to blow (no dash lights while driving at night). Additional failure was vehicle would not start. Short was caused by harness rubbing against the rear bumper.

2 Underhood Wiring problem

Failure Date: 09/26/1998

Check engine light kept coming on. The electrical harness caught fire in the engine compartment. Smoke was coming from under the hood in the driveway. Took vehicle to dealer. Was informed by mechanic the wires were installed too close to manifold. Had the wires replaced, but been having problems with wires every since.

3 Underhood Wiring problem

Failure Date: 08/23/1998

Vehicle was parked & replaced oil. Noticed hood was black. Was informed that electrical wiring harness is too close to exhaust manifold. This caused the hood to burn. Took to dealer & had it repaired.

4 Underhood Wiring problem

Electrical harness caught fire due to location near exhaust manifold which burned plastic protective cover of the harness.
