Transmission Failure problems of the 1997 Chevrolet S10

Five problems related to transmission failure have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2005

Around the end of the warranty period, my truck started shifting into "second" gear hard after driving at highway speeds. Toward the end of a 200 mile trip, the transmission failed and no longer has a "second" gear. The truck had 48,023 miles on it. I cannot determine for sure if the overdrive function is working, either. While failure did not cause an accident or personal injury, the potential was significant. This vehicle has only been used for personal transportation, not commercial purposes or hauling heavy loads. Repairs will be costly. My research indicates repeat failures for this transmission. I am the second owner. I bought the truck from my mother after my father passed away.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2000

Transmission failed prematurely at 60,0000 and then replaced again 240 miles later.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2000

First service engine light come on and burning odor, due to transmission failure.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/17/1999

This is the second transmission to fail in this truck(fact rebuilt to replace original that failed at 70,000 miles. At this time dealer does not know why, nor can they repair because trucks computer center was cleared on test to find defect, and computer has not relogged problem. The first transmission should have lasted longer than 70,000 miles and the second should definately lasted longer than 10,000.

5 Transmission Failure problem
