Transmission Gear Slipping problems of the 1997 Chevrolet S10

Three problems related to transmission gear slipping have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

Transmission slippage from first to second gear with a hard jolt. 4-wd drive would not engage/disengage but a whirring sound present from location 20-40mph.

2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2000

Engine check light comes on & off. Code reads: p1870-means transmission is slipping at different speeds. Got vehicle at 36000 miles--dealer may have known of problem-may need replacement. Should be a recall for all the complaints I've seen so far.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/30/1997

When driving vehicle tilts to left side. Has to hold tightly to steering wheel to keep vehicle on road. Taken it to dealer who noticed frame was bent & out of alignment. Also transmission has slippage.
