1 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 10/25/2006

At 7200 miles the rotors on our 2003 chevy xtreme needed to be resurfaced, they resurfaced. At 12,000 mile our vehicle was back in for rotor problems again this time they stated that they would not repair we were accused of doing brake stands (back tires were over inflated wearing in the center). Rotors and brakes needed to be replaced, too it to another chevy dealer we again were told that this was damage because of braking after a talk with the service mgr they went ahead and replaced the front and rear brakes, resurfaced the rotors. At 3000 miles I would bring back for inspection. Tires replaced. Took my vehicle to have tires rotated then made appt. With chevy to inspect brakes at approx. 30,000 mile the rotors again were warped, I had to wait for the area service mgr to make our on oct. 26,2006 we had an appt with chevy to inspect the brakes and rotors with the area service mfr by this time our mileage was up to 38,000. They stated that the lug nuts were torqued at 140 and should of been at 100 (this dealer was the last one to take the tires off the vehicle so they torqued the tires too tight. Torque for s-10 is 100 and torque for a 1500 is 140) this caused the rotors to warp, the brakes were gone because of excessive braking they wanted to take no responsibility for their product. They would not repair the brakes or the rotors because 1. Lug nuts torqued to much 2. Braking excessive 3. Vehicle out of the 3yr/36000 mile warranty. Several people that own a chevy. Xtreme have had the same problem with the brakes on their vehicle too. I feel that this is an issue that general motors needs to address immediately this is not the consumers error but a gm product defective. These dealerships have no right to make judgment calls on consumers on how they feel they drive when it is their product that is defective.

6 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 07/24/2002

Today, 24 July 2002 @ 6:30 am pdt at 65 mph, the right front wheel separated from the hub on our 1998 Chevrolet s-10 blazer. All five wheel studs sheared. The car was brought to a stop while riding on the brake disc. The car was towed to woolever tire CO, 205 anacapa st, santa barbara, CA 93101. The brake rotor and all tire studs are being replaced. I have high resolution digital pictures of the individual studs as welle as the wheel and brake assemblies. Chevrolet has been contacted and has started a case (1-18936109) regarding this failure. I've asked the tire dealer to save all the parts that were replaced.

8 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1998 Chevrolet S10

Failure Date: 08/17/2001

On 08/05/01 I noticed that the right front brake rotor was grooved from metal to metal contact between the rotor and pad. The vehicle only had about 32900 original miles. I do not tow or haul anything. I drive about 20 miles a day. On 08/17/01 I took the vehicle to a brake shop to have the right front brakes repaired. I knew that it was abnormal to have metal to metal contact on a vehicle with this low mileage. The mechanic discovered that the right front caliper had failed, or "hung up" causing uneven wear between the left and right front systems. The right front brakes were metal to metal. The left front caliper had also failed. The outside pad had about 80% pad thickness. The left inside pad was wearing unevenly. The rear of the pad was almost metal to metal while the front was about 60% thick. I am a police officer and a trained technical accident investigator. Common sense, and my training tells me that these defective calipers, and their premature failure, cause a considerable decrease in braking efficiency. As a side note, the mechanic who worked on my vehicle mentioned to me that he had a chevy S10 in the day before with about 36000 miles with the same problem.

14 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2000 Chevrolet S10

When brakes were applied the car would shake; car taken to dealership to have the brakes checked; 2 rear rotors were warped and replaced; left the dealership and the same problem still existed. Did not have time to take back as I was leaving on vacation. In traveling on the freeways and in the mountains the hotter the brakes got , the more the car would shake when the brakes were applied, and today the car continues to have this same problem. When I arrived at my destination, I contacted a cheverolet dealership nearby and spoke to the service person and they really didn't want to touch the brakes and suggested that it would be better to take the car to service where I bought it. Today I'm taking the car to the dealership for the brakes to be checked again as the warranty is about to expire. I hope they take it for a good test drive!! I'm not sure is this problem is they hydraulic brake system. It could be the anti-lock brake system for all I know. But I've been driving 4-wheel drive blazer for about 20 years and this problem really stumps me.
