2003 chevy S10 has been maintained and taking care of. Brakes in rear were sticking due to factory defective abs control module. Rear wheel bearing gave out and started leaking axle fluid cause of a sticking drivers side brake from abs control module malfunctioning. After much cost of replacing calipers and brake pads the culprit from a defectively abs control module making the brake caliper stick to the rotor. . Next the coolant leaks from the intake manifold gasket and now the heater core leaks… this truck has only 146k miles on it and I always taking care of it keeping up before it’s schedule maintenance. But what I see is poor defective parts from gm. So I have to make sure I get this work done and keep the coolant filled or there be a motor issue from overheating. This is a safety concern and if the heater core leaks then breathing the toxic coolants isn’t safe at all when the ac is on or no heat in winter!. Now gm discontinued making the S10 in north America but redesigned a front wheel drive diesel version in south America.

Twice now while lightly applying brakes to come to a stop at an intersection the antilock brake system engaged. Since it was unexpected I almost didn't come to a stop in time before rolling into the intersection into traffic. The abs warning indicator was illuminated intermittently before this with recorded dtc c0268 (pump motor circuit shorted). Also the transfer case input shaft seal failed which caused transmission fluid to leak into the transfer case, completely filling it. That caused the transfer case vacuum switch to fail and transmission fluid was sucked into the vacuum lines and eat through them causing a vacuum leak. Because of the vacuum leak, whenever I would accelerate to highway speeds and the engine would use what vacuum it could, the 4wd actuator would lose its vacuum then regain it when the rpm's dropped and try to lock the front axle while at highway speeds which would cause the truck to jerk and the gears to grind. And lastly the airbag warning indicator is always illuminated for reasons I do not know.
Backing travel trailer into driveway and the brake pedal faded and would not stop vehicle in a safe distance. It felt like the pedal faded to the floor. Pumping the pedal seemed to have no effect. The driveway is flat and the speed was low.

While attempting to park in a parking garage and maneuver into a stall at low speeds, the brakes lost power. They made a noise as if the abs kicked in, the brake pedal was very hard and the brakes were barely functioning. The recall was fixed on my truck a few months back. The truck has 59k miles and this was the first incidence. Hopefully, I can get it out of the parking garage safely when I get home. Will be contacting my local dealership to see what they can do. Based on what I read on here, this is a common problem that needs to be fixed once and for all.

My brakes do not always work; I often have to pump the brakes up just to be able to get them to apply. It is very scary. I can put my foot all the way to the floor, and the truck will barely slow down. I feel I will likely rear-end somebody or roll into a busy intersection because the brakes will not work.

The contact owns a 1996 Chevrolet S10. While driving 35 mph, the abs malfunctioned. The contact stated that the abs engaged independently, and pulled the vehicle to the left. Furthermore, the vehicle lost brake functionality completely. Gilcrest Chevrolet Buick GMC in tacoma, washington was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle needed to be towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact stated that the brakes had been serviced by the dealer prior to this failure, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The contact cited NHTSA campaign number: 99v193000 (service brakes, hydraulic) as a possible cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,160.

My dad purchased my truck from the church secretary where he attended in March of 2015. At the time of purchase it only had 66,000 miles on it. The secretary’s father owned it and used it from new until 6 months before we purchased it and only used it to help feed his cows. 1. Window washer motor circuit 2. Seatbelt need’s stitched 3. The overload sticker is wrong came in after we purchased the truck but my dad was sick and he passed away 3/8/2016 coated brake rotor & hub assembly (86757cr)x2 tie rod end (ncd 2693017)x2 ball joint front lower (ncd 2601130)x2 tie rod end control arm front left (ncd 2605330) tie rod end control arm and ball joint front right upper (ncp 2605329) tie rod adjusting sleeve front (ncd 2691109)x2 idler arm assembly (ncd 2683654) tie rod end outer (ncd 2683267)x2 steering center link (ncd 2721591) too much noise and when making a parking lot turn it felt and sounded like I was gonna lose my whole front end on the ground.
I was turning left and another car coming from the opposite direction made a right turn in front of me and I hit my brakes and tried to stop but my abs did not kick in and I slid about thirty feet and hit there car.
Occasionally about 5 or 6 times and counting when initially applying the break at either 45mph or 10 mph my 1997 chevy S10 vehicle starts to accelerate with my foot off the gas and cruise control off at what appeared to be full speed/throttle. My first reaction was to break even harder, but then the antilock brakes kicked in and seemed to reduce the stopping force by not letting the wheels lock. The vehicle continued to accelerate until I placed the car in neutral and then the vehicle stopped and also stopped accelerating.

(1) while sitting in heavy traffic at a stop light in the city. I have a habit of not stopping close to vehicles at stop lights. While stopped at the light behind a new looking explorer of some kind my truck lunged forward without warning by itself with my feet on the brakes. If I had stopped closer to the van I would have hit it very hard. I read no one can stand in front of the truck with the motor running because of this. (2) started my truck in my yard. It quickly idle very fast and would not idle down. Put in gear and it took off very fast and brakes locked up. Put in neutral and turned off the switch before the vehicle got in the highway still trying to stop with the hard brakes. My truck never did this before. I live in the city where young children play in the street in front of my home. It could have been deadly. Why do my truck do these things? I went into the computer looking for answers and found a lot of S10 owners had the same problems. If I had been driving in a curve, on the interstate or just some one crossing the street it would have been a very bad situation. I thank god for letting me be at home and no one was hurt just scared.
When slowing down to enter the garage, the engine accelerates when applying the brakes. Letting off of the brakes and reapplying them and pushing harder has eased the issue somewhat. It does this very frequently.
2000 Chevrolet s-10. Consumer writes in regards to anti-lock brake system recall. The consumer stated he experienced the exact failure, as described in the recall, he found. However, gm refused to honor the recall.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that while attempting to apply the parking brake, it failed to engage. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for repair or inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90000. Updated 11/15/cn.
The parking brake is inoperable. The rachet mechanism does not work--I. E. Does not hold the brake in a set position. Worked the prior time set on a hill 5 months earlier.
I have problem with my (abs) and my tailgate.
I applied the brakes on entering my driveway. The pedal went nearly to the floor. A pool of brake fluid formed on the driveway under the driver's side about the middle of the truck. Investigation showed a corroded and burst brake pipe just in front of the fuel tank.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup. While driving there was a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and after inspecting it he noticed the rear brake rotors were corroded and deteriorated. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 28,800.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
At low speed and when going over bumps in road the abs system engages making it hard to stop. This has been happening for the last 5 years that I have noticed and happens everytime this situation happens.
My 2003 Chevrolet s-10 pickup has a dangerous abs system in that it locks up under routine stops and actually appears to pull vehicle to an abrupt stop. I took it into a mechanic who said that he had another owner of the s-10 with same problem. He advised me to remove the fuse #22 which would turn off the abs and return my vehicle to standard braking. The mechanic said he was looking up information on how to fix the problem, but had not success.
Bolts fell out of rear brake hanger while driving home they appeared to have been strip out at the factory and were not installed properly the vec. Only has 42000 miles on it.
Bolts fell out of the rear brake hanger and caused a lot of damage to the pad and rotors apparently they were strip out at factory as no one has work on the brakes the vec. Only has 42,000 miles on it.
My 2000 Chevrolet started to activate the abs when stopping, but only within the last 5 mph before stopping, I did some research and found that this was a known issue and there is currently a TSB, 020525006, open for the issue. Is followed the TSB as I am mechanically inclined, test drove the truck and nearly ran into the wall on the back side of my garage. I pulled the fuse to the abs module and the truck stops without any issue. I also found a recall for all of the Chevrolet full size trucks, model year 1999-2002. The description of the issue is the exact same as the issue I am dealing with. I also found out that the brake configuration is the same as the full size trucks. There are S10's with a different configuration, but mine is the same as the full size trucks. I am currently driving with the abs disconnected. To get the vehicle inspected, I am going to put it back in so that I can get the truck inspected as I do not have the time to get it fixed. The fix for this I believe is to have the hub replaced as that is where the corrosion exists.
While driving 35 mph consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem.
While applying the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop completely. The consumer applied the emergency brakes and the vehicle stopped completely. This caused the passenger to move forward and sustain major injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection numerous times. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. Please provide further details.
Brake pedal jumps back when any snow is on ground and I slide thropugh intersections. Dealer said this is abs and is normal and could not be fixed. Dealer is ashland motors, ashland, WI.
Windshield wipers are working intermittently. Abs brakes lock up. Dealer contacted, they said that there was nothing wrong.
The consumer stated that the vehicle made a slipping noise while braking.
Traveling at low speeds, on wet surfaces, when brake pedal was depressed the vehicle lurched forward and then stopped after a few feet.
