1 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

Brakes: since approximately 136,000 miles to present miles, the vehicle has exhibited an abs and brake warning light intermittently on the dash. This is a known gm issue that was recalled in certain states, but not all. It stems from faulty soldering points in the abs control module and can affect the vehicles ability to stop correctly which could result in an accident. Engine/ emissions: the passenger side exhaust manifold bolt has broken off. This is a known issue with this 5. 3l engine as well as the 4. 8l and 6. 0l engines. Gm has failed to recall in spite of having thousands of complaints. The issue can cause failed emissions and potentially engine fires. Engine: as of 164,000 miles, the engine is experiencing loud "piston slap". This is a known issue which gm addressed through redesign in later models. It leads to excessive engine wear and potential engine failure. It appears to be a factory defect, yet gm has claimed it is not important despite numerous complaints from customers that the engines have required replacement as a result.

2 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2012

The vehicle went from normal braking to taking much longer to stop without warning. The pedal felt softer, and fell further to the floor. With pumping I was able to stop. Further more the brakes didn't seam to hold. I had to lift and reapply or the truck would roll. The brake light didn't light until after it initially failed to stop normally. On investigation I found a leak in one of the brakes lines that goes under the cab. It is part of a cluster of brake likes on top of the frame rail. This may be related to NHTSA action number : ea11001 mileage is unknown because the electronic display for it has failed.

3 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

The brakes failed when pulling into a turn lane to exit off a busy main highway. No warning, no brake light came on to indicate trouble. There were no brakes at all. Although there is high mileage, the brakes should still function and should provide some indication that there is a problem. This could have caused a serious accident.

Rusted brake lines failed on my 99 chevy Silverado and I crashed into my garage door pulling in. There was no brake warning light until I hit the brake and there was none the petal went to the floor. The consumer stated that the abs motor had broken. He then had to take the fuse out to shut the motor off. The consumer received a recall on the front wheel speed sensor for corrosion. The vehicle was taken to the and was fixed. The consumer thought that when the dealership performed the recall repair that it would fix the problem, however, the abs motor was still not working properly. The vehicle was driven for three months with the fuse out to the abs motor. The emergency brake and abs light had come came on when the consumer had taken the fuse out. A couple of months later the service engine light and service four wheel drive light had come on. The dealership said that this was not related to the abs motor. The consumer had not contacted the manufacturer. (11/29/05).

8 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2004

The abs brake system light on my 1999 Silverado comes on intermittedly. The dealer advised me that the 1999 had a problem with the abs pumps and gm refuses to recall, they stated this repair costs over 1000 dollars to fix. The brakes are mushy on this truck since new and the service manager stated "the brakes suck on 99's". Many web sites have complaints posted about the abs system yet gm apparently is ignoring this problem. The dealer advises the only solution to the cost of replacement is to remove the fuse and disable the abs. Why is this not a recall?.

9 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2004

Abs & brake lights come on intermittently. Took to dealer to have checked but lights were not on at the time. They did not even get in and test drive. I was told its a common problem caused by the abs modules and that its not a safety issue. People are driving around with brake warning lights illuminated and they are lead to believe they dont have a safety issue.

10 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2003

Abs wheel speed sensors 1999 Chevrolet Silverado - abs kicks in when slowing to low speed (no abs or brake lights come on). Very dangerous! you have no control of the vehicle when this happens. I called several local Chevrolet dealerships about this problem and they are so familiar with the problem that they can tell you right away how long it will take to fix and how much it will cost (just by me telling them what the vehicle is doing). I was pulling into a parking lot, going less than 5 mph and the truck did not stop, I bounced off of the curb - due to the abs kicking in when it did not need to. If I was slowing for traffic, I have no doubt that I would have hit the person in front of me! this is a very common problem (I have since researched this problem on the internet) and a serious one - this needs addressed by Chevrolet as soon as possible. My truck only has 57,000 miles on it - the cost of repair will cost up to $800 or more. The truck is unsafe to drive. Any response to this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

11 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2003

My father-in-law pulled up at work. He turned the truck off and he heard a noise under the truck near the drivers door. He looked under the truck to see what was making the noise and found the abs pump still running. He had the mechanic at the job site look at it and he disconnected the pump. The abs light as well as the brake light came on but the truck was drivable. He told me about it and I did some research and found that it is a very large problem! Chevrolet is refusing to recall the part and putting the general public in danger. If the abs fails during bad road conditions everyone is at risk. The occupants and the other drivers on the road. This needs to be put into a force recall by the NHTSA for the safety of the general public. There should not have to be deaths on the road before safety issues are addressed. Please act swiftly in this matter before the deaths start showing up from this issue.

12 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2003

Abs light and brake light stay lit in on my 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (VIN 2gcec19v9x1142136). I brought the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer to have it serviced. The dealer told me it was the abs motor is misaligned and is burnt out and would cost in excess of $1,000 to fix. Also, that he has seen this problem a lot. For a quick fix he told me I can remove the fuse to the abs. He told me he could not do it because it was a "safety issue. " I had no choice since I did not have the money to fix it. But recently I notice there was a recall on the 2000 models (NHTSA campaign id#: 00v055000). Since the 1999 model was release toward the end of 1999 and uses the same part as the 2000 model, it only seems logical the recall should extend also for the 1999 models. I brought this point up to the dealer, but they said they are very specific to servicing vehicle recalls and my vehicle did not qualify. I fear if this problem is not recalled, many trucks with this faulty braking system is a serious safety concern. I have had this problem for about 1 year. Please help. Thank you. 25 Brake Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/20/1999

I was driving at about 30mph,aloud humming noise started, and my abs light came on. I turned off the ignition, but the noise continued. I found the humming noise coming from under the truck,on the drivers side, under door area. There is a black"box" with 2 electrical plugs. It was necessary to pull one of the plugs to get the humming to stop. But now my abs light and my brake lights are on all the time on dash. Took the truck to original dealership, and was told that the abs pump and module both went bad. I was told that the cost to repairs would be $1685. 66. I just can't believe that both parts went bad. The truck is only 2 years old. Now I am driving with my truck in this condition, because I don't have enough available cash on hand to have the repairs done. (2) both drivers side and passenger side windows rattle when they are down. It doesn't matter how far down the windows are. I'm waiting for them to break. It sounds as if they are ready to fall off the track. This has been a problem since I purchased the truck. I told the dealer about it ,but nothing was ever done to correct the problem. (3)also,on the front passenger door, there is an air leak when I am driving, again told dealer, and nothing was done. (4)on the third door on right side, rear, water leaks in around glass. Took it back to dealer,& was told they couldn't find the reason for the water leak. Still continues to leak, when it rains or I wash the truck. Another problem I have is with the truck hydroplaneing in the rain. This has also been going on since I purchased truck new in Feb. 1999. Lost total control on one occasion. Truck went completely sideways on roadway. I was traveling at about 50mph. ,in a 60mph zone. I was in traffic at the time, the other vehicles around me realzed the situation, and backed off giving me room. When I finally regained control,I pulled off of the highway. I was very badly shaken from the experience (tiresize: p265-75r16)( dot number: tire size: p265-75r16 ).
