13 problems related to brake sensor have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2010

I as driving my 1999 Silverado to work . Approaching a traffic signal ,I applied brakes and felt the line let go as my pedal went to the floor. My mechanic was shocked at the amount of rust under my truck with only 40000 miles. I had already replaced rotted rotors, abs sensors, etc. More recently I had two other brake lines fixed. Really dont feel safe driving this anymore. Gm should recall pronto before someone gets killed.

2 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2005

The contact stated the brakes failed. The front abs sensor had corrosion build up on it. The contact's vehicle was involved in a crash because of the brake failure. He then took the vehicle to a service dealer and had the sensor cleaned. The brakes were fine after the cleaning. He contacted the manufacturer , and they offered no free remedy. The speed at the time of impact was 3 mph.

3 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2005

The contact found out that there was a safety recall 05068 on Chevrolet Silverado but his vehicle was not included because he lived in wisconsin. Contact talked to the dealership and the manufacturer about this problem. The consumer contacted his state representative. When coming to a stop, the brake would pulsate. Updated 11/29/05. Updated 11/29/05 - the brake pedal would pulsate at 5 mph. The consumer was told that this problem was caused by rusted and corroded abs sensors.

4 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2005

I was pulling into a parking spot at a local store in crandon, wisconsin. The abs system on the truck started pulsating and never stopped until I hit the car in the parking spot in front of me, which resulted in a crash. The problem was corrected when I took it to the dealer for repair the next day in rhinelander. They said the abs sensors where corroded and need either replacement or cleaning, which is what the dealer did.

5 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2005

The abs malfunctioned. The system engaged without cause, resulting in the service brakes not working when depressed. When this occurred, the consumer has to pump the brake pedal several times to stop the vehicle. The dealership indicated that this occurred because the sensor on the front wheels gets corroded, causing the system to mis read. Therefore the system indicates that the vehicle is on ice when it isn't and the abs engages. The dealership cleaned the front wheel sensor assembly. The dealership indicated that there's a recall on this problem but only for vehicles assembled in canada. Consumer concern when coming to a stop the abs system will activate caused by unwanted abs activation.

6 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

I own a 1999 chevy Silverado. The abs sensor went bad and I was told it would be $1000 to fix this. Outrageous! I did more research and found that this problem is common and gm is doing nothing about it. I read that they recalled all trucks with same problem in canada, but not here. This is a safety concern because my abs does not work, and the abs motor runs, which is a fire concern. Next, with winter driving coming soon, this is a major concern to not have abs. This problem should be recalled and fixed at gm's expense.

7 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2004

Vehicle was experiencing an intermittent problem with extended stopping distance. When braking, the brake pedal would feel soft, and the vehicle would continue before stopping. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop, and dealer informed consumer that the abs sensor needed to be replaced. Dealer was not notified.

8 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

My abs brakes are not working correctly on my 1999 chevy Silverado 1500. When I try to stop the abs causes the brake pedal to "push" back at me and does not allow me to fully stop in a safe distance. I took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs and the entire wheel assemble was cleaned to remove rust from the hub. They say that is causing the abs sensor to send false readings. Yet they say it is not going to be a recall issue because it only has been reported by a few people. Well I am now reporting this in hopes of a more permanent solution such as a recall. I read that they recalled the trucks in canada but not here. This is a huge safety issue. It has happened to me going as slow as 5 mph and as fast as 40 mph. It is only a matter of time before someone is really hurt. I have no confidence in my trucks ability to stop now.

9 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2002

Dt: the consumer vehicle had problem with it's abs brakes. While coming to a stop below 5 mph the abs would kick in while on dry pavement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer Nov. 2004 to be fixed. The dealer cleaned the sensor mounts of rust and retested and it showed that the left side was out of limits. The road test showed no unwanted abs stops. This has happen to the consumer one time within the last month. The consumer has the service invoices.

10 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1901

Ltr fm don olson (mi) inquiring why the 1999 GMC Silverado pickup trucks with defective brakes (abs) sensors in the front wheels have no recall in the us as the ones built in canada, reply to the wash. Dc ofc.

11 Brake Sensor problem

When applying brakes and simultaneously hitting a bump in the road abs sensors must believe that the tires are skidding. The results are terrible. You cannot stop vehicle. I talked to the service manager at george white chervolet. He is aware of the problem, but indicated there is no fix. Absolutely unbeliveable. I am positive people have been killed by this problem. But, GMC did not have a solution. Please advise as to what I should do!! hopefully before I or my family gets killed.

12 Brake Sensor problem

The brake wheel sensor failed and caused an accident. The dealer was notified.

13 Brake Sensor problem

The brakes failed. Gm replaced the solenoid sensor as a gesture of goodwill.
