140 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
: the contact stated the vehicle was taken to a dealership to have recall repairs performed on the abs. The NHTSA campaign id is 05v379000. The vehicle was still having the same type of problems after the repairs were made. The vehicle was driven for a period of time before it was taken to an independent repair shop for inspection. Upon inspection the problem was the left front wheel hub needed to be replaced. Repairs were made, this fixed the problem. The contact heard about a recall that was on the wheel hub. The NHTSA campaign id is 00x001000. The manufacturer was contacted the vehicle is not included in the recall due to the VIN.
The consumers abs system, failed. When coming to stop at slower speeds the abs kicks in ,and it will not stop within in 5 or 6 feet of travel. Can't rely on it. The light did come on, but not all the time, only on slower speeds. Took vehicle and had it fixed before. Consumer feels this is a safety issue for when your in heavy traffic and need to come to an complete stop you can't and run into the back of somebody.
On more than one occasion, my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado (1500) pick up truck fails to stop at low speeds <20 mph. The cause is the abs brake system activates, regardless of road conditions and makes the brake pedal very "hard". At time of this complaint, service work has not be completed; therefore, I have no information on parts.
Consumer states: antil-lock brakes will kick in below 5 mph everytime. The brakes are fine. When pushing down on the brake the pedal will push back, and making pumping noise. When noise stops you regain operation of the pedal. It'll continue to move to extra 3 to 5 feet when trying to get vehilce to stop sometimes up to 10-15 feet.
Consumer states: abs system activates every time he applies the brakes. The abs activated at 5-10 mph, which caused the vehicle to continue to move forward instead of stopping.
Contact states, low speed abs activation; happens intermittently.
Dt: the contact states that he owns a 2000 chevy Silverado and the abs is kicking in at about 5 mph increasing the stopping distance. This happens on all road conditions. It happens everytime he tries to slow down. The vehicle has new brakes and the regular brakes work fine but it's the abs that is making the problem.
Anti-lock brakes are not functioning properly, which is causing the vehicle to come to a rolling stop. Owner will be taken vehicle to dealer for the second time for the same problem.
During very slow speed such as creeping in heavy traffic, the brake pedal seems to engage the anti-lock brakes making braking unpredictable. Problem is very repeatable. Similar to investigation pe05-020.
After reading the newspaper of 05/04/2005, I realized my vehicle, a 2000 siverado, was involved in the NHTSA investigation #pe05020, low speed braking distance increase. On several occasions throughout this past winter, my truck just seemed like it didn't want to stop in what I thought was a sufficient distance. I had been told by my local dealership shortly after purchasing this vehicle in July of 2002, to either use my parking brake all the time or not at all because the components would rust and become inoperative. Apparantly this problem has been known by gm for a long time. Having read the news article, the further ramification becomes clear. I now know the a. B. S. System was too aggressive on slippery surfaces. The last time this happened, I was turning into my driveway and wound up in my front yard stuck, but with no damage. If I had been at an intersection on a public road, I might not be here to write this. The incident date and number of failures will be relative due to the frequency of this failure.
At speeds under 15 mph the abs activates and the vehicle goes 1 to two feet further than expected. Usually happens when coming to a stop sign, stop light, parking or in heavy traffic. This happens a lot!! I know there is a campaign out there, but they need to approve it before there are more wrecks! the canadian recall was over a year ago, why is the us recall so far behind?.
Nhtsa campaign 00v055000; Chevrolet issued an abs spring clip recall. This vehicle is not included in the recall, but the abs was not operating properly. This VIN is outside the remedy scope.
Over the past 3 years I've experienced failures while braking. After having the dealer check this problem he advise me to replace hub and bearings. At my cost. . . . . This hasn't fix the problem. Last winter I slid through several intersections. At slow speeds I know now to forget about abs-ing and pump the hell out of the brakes. Please note that the "incident date" is just a guess from last winter.
Antilock brakes engage at low speeds.
I have a 2000 chevy Silverado that at low speeds the anti-lock brakes kick in making my stopping distance longer.
Chevrolet Silverado 2000. The consumer stated he was having a problem with the abs. At very low speed, under 10 mph, when the consumer steps on the brakes, the vehicle will not stop. Sometimes the consumer had to pump the brakes. The consumer could hear some type of noise when he applied the brakes. Had vehicle in PA for 3 winter seasons.
Stopping distance at slow speed is not alway as crisp as it should be. The abs sometimes come on, when it shouldn't. My local mechanic has been unable to fix this. Why are the canadians treated as first class consumers and the amer- ican as second rate?.
I was driving my 2000 Silverado 1500 pick-up truck on dry pavement, as I was about to make a left hand turn going less than about 10 mph, I tried to brake. The anti-lock brakes engaged and all I could feel was a rolling sensation when I was depressing the brake pedal. Luckily, I had time to lift my foot off the brake and push down again, this time the anti-lock brakes did not engage and I stopped inches from the vehicle ahead of me. There could have been a serious accident.
The anti-lock brakes engage on my 2000 Silverado at inappropriate times. This causes the vehicle to be difficult to stop and has almost resulted in several accidents. This problem began last winter and continues. I do not get any indication of a problem on the dash. I avoid using this truck because of the problem.
Intermittently when braking, the brake pedal felt soft and caused extended stopping distance.
The abs activated at low speeds. Every once in a while they would activate when they shouldn't on dry pavement.
Brakes catch when slowing down with no notice; anti-lock brakes activate when applying regular brakes.
Intermittently while driving at any speed and applying the brakes the rear brakes froze and wont release the brakes. Also, consumer indicated hada problem with the front brakes too.
While driving abs inadvertently engaged. This caused extended stopping distance when braking. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Just before the end of a stop antilock kicks in extending stoping distance. The problem is worse when stopping from traveling in reverse. Gm did not put enough greese in antilock brakes so they rusted.
The straps on my baby's car seat do not tighten easily. Repeated tightening of the straps led to plastic fatigue on the piece that connects to the straps. We had two of these car seats with my first child. With the first one, dorel juvenile group sold me another car seat at a discounted price. With the second car seat to experience this trouble, dorel told me that they hadn't received any other claims of this problem. Now with my second child, we mostly had trouble with the car seat when it was in the rear facing position. Dorel should at least acknowledge that there is a problem with the design of the car seat that leads to plastic fatigue. This car seat is the comfort ride model no. 22-400-brd. There wasn't a box to check for this particular car seat. This was an intermittent problem.
The consumer experienced the same problems as stated in recall 05v379000 concerning the anti-lock brakes. He said the recall did not include his state. Dealer and manufacturer have not been contacted. The consumer stated when he begins to slow down, the brakes begin to pump and take control and then return to normal before coming to a complete stop, which greatly increase stopping distance.
While applying brakes from a low speed anti lock brake system engaged. As result, vehicle continued to roll, almost colliding into a building.
My brakes would not work at slow speeds. The abs would activate with no reason.
Anti-lock brakes activate right before the truck comes to a complete stop. This increases the stopping distance by several feet. It happens very often and only happens during light braking never under heavy braking.
I own a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4. I purchased it used in may 2003. I like everything about the truck but this past year I have had trouble with my abs system malfunctioning. I had several occasions had the abs activate while the truck is going between 5-10 mph and came very close to rear ending another vehicle and also a tree at the end of my driveway. I have since removed the fuse from the abs circuit to dis-able this very dangerous situation. I recently notified Chevrolet via e-mail and they instructed me to take my truck to a certified gm dealer for a diagnoses of my truck. I feel after reading several threads on chevy truck forums that this is a major problem with Chevrolet trucks from the 90's to the newer trucks. I have also learned that gm has recalled trucks in canada but here in the states. I am going to carry through with taking it to a dealer and geting it diagnosed but I feel very strongly that this should be a recall in the USA also.
The consumer complained about abs brake problems with a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The brakes were not stopping properly. When the consumer pushes the brakes the vehicle continued going. The abs went off, and the car jumped, and was moving forward. This has been happening for a year. The consumer tried to repair the vehicle but the brakes were still having the problems. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and they tried to fix the problem. Also , the consumer contacted gm and was told this vehicle was not included in recall 05v379000 due to VIN. The consumer lived in michigan. The consumer was employeed by gm. The speed was 15-25 mph when the abs would kick in.
Anti lock brake system would engage as vehicle was coming to a stop causing the vehicle to continue rolling.
When driving under 10 mph on dry pavement, the abs activated and it became hard to stop the vehicle. The vehicle has not been serviced for the defect since the consumer has to pay out of pocket. This was a regular problem.
A recent repair was performed on my 2000 Silverado per a service bulletin to fix a problem that activates the anti-lock brakes at low speed conditions on dry pavement. The dealer instructed me that this problem will occur again in the future as the hardware wears / fails again and this will create another dangerous situation by not being able to stop in the same distance on dry pavement as with properly functional brakes. Gm also says they have no plan at this time to recall vehicles for this problem.
I purchsed my truck used, however it was in excelent condition. Shortly after I noticed that when ever I tried to stop the anti-lock brake would come on for no reason. Even if I was only rolling to a stop. The anti-lock brakes would activate and actually prevent me from coming to a smooth controled stop. Finally it got so bad that I was nervous about driving the truck. I brought the truck to the shop. They told me that there were no recalls for the truck. However they did tell me that there was a parts change order. Apparently chev. Has issued new wheel bearings for my truck. The type installed at the factory are no longer available. This is a very dangerous condition. I feel that chev. Is aware of the condtion, hence the new part, and should recall the truck. The bearings in my truck were replaced and the problem has stopped.
