Five problems related to power assist brake have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Was backing a trailer into a barn on level ground ,power steering and power brakes failed with no warning. Repair has not been done yet.
Power assist went out on steering and brakes.
The hydraulic pump was inoperative. While backing the vehicle out of driveway, the hydraulic pump failed to work. Manufacturer was contacted, and stated they would look at it. But consumer had not heard anything about it. The hydraulic pump shaft severed while the consumer was driving. The vehicle had become impossible to steer . The mechanic stated this wasn't the first incident with this make/model.
While traveling at 5 mph power steering and power brakes went out at same time. Dealership examined vehicle and determined that there was a broken shaft in power steering pump that caused a loss of these two power assisted systems. Conusmer states he was advised by dealership that this is a common problem with these types of vehicle's.
Was backing vehicle out of garage when something happened to power assist on steering. Also, had no power brakes. Everything had locked up. Noticed steering fluid on garage floor. Contacted dealership, and was informed by service manager vehicle will be towed. Dealer stated that consumer may have had foot on brake and went through safety zone on hydro booster cauing fluid to foam up and cause this problem.
