1 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/09/2007

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. While maneuvering through a parking lot at 5 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and it went all the way down to the floor. He attempted to apply the brake a second time and the failure recurred. He exited the vehicle and noticed brake fluid on the ground. The vehicle was towed and the mechanic informed him that the brake line had failed. The failure occurred in sunny and dry weather conditions. The contact would like a zone representative to inspect the vehicle. The # of cylinders was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 55,000.

While traveling at very low speeds vehicle's abs system kicks in and vehicle will not stop in a timely manner.

3 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/20/2005

Chevy Silverado z71 4x4 in November 2005, I had an accident due to the abs not functioning correctly, while pulling into a parking space lightly applying my brakes the abs started to chatter and I could not stop fast enough and hit a light poll with the right side fender and bumper. I got out to look to see why I slid, but the surface was clean and dry. I was puzzled, on the drive home it happened again this time coming to a stop and again lightly applying the brakes the abs shuttered, this time stopping into cross intersection traffic. I was now scared and the slower I drove the worse it was, I approched a school zone in my neighborhood and a child ran accross the street and again I braked but I could not stop quick enough and struck this child, not seriously but enough to knock him down. I got home parked the truck and have not driven it since. I have not taken it to the shop because last year I spent a lot of money at the chevy dealer getting a complete brake job, and several service items costing thousands and I was just tapped out and I figured I would wait till I get some money. I heard the other night on the new about a recall on this very issue so I contacted my dealer and they stated that my VIN number (2gcek19t1y1332631) is not included in the recall for the abs speed sensor problem. Scott wieduwilt.

5 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

6 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/05/2005

Anti lock brakes kick in when attempting to try to stop my chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck. After it had happened a few times I did not think anything of it and thought maybe the brakes had been exposed to greese or something. I eventually wound up rear ending a vehicle when attempting to park behind it in a mall parking lot. It cost my insurance company 600. 00 and I am sure that this will impact my insurance costs. I recently heard that the gonvernment was looking into this issue and gm had done a recall in canada for the same issue. I am frustrated with gm and currently have this truck for sale and will be contacting them to request that they fix it. If they are not willing to repair it then I will be considering taking them to court to recover the cost my insurance company and hopefully keep my insurance from increasing. Any assistance with this matter from you would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

7 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

8 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

2000 Chevrolet Silverado experiencing problems with the anti lock brake system. The anti-lock braking system activates when vehicle comes to a stop and to include speeds under 10 mph. This definitely a safety issue for the consumer and also other who are experiencing the same problems with their make/model vehicles.

9 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

2000 Chevrolet Silverado had defective brake sensor replaced. Provided ivoq no inquiry/questions. . . . . . Notice the antilock brakes were making noise and engaging at low speeds during stops. It seemed the truck was not stopping and would have to pump the brakes to get them to engage, replaced defective brake sensor.

10 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/23/2005

I have recently experienced the anti-lock brake problems that all of the gm trucks/suvs have been experiencing. When I would attempt to stop the anti-lock brake would activate on dry pavement and in good weather, causing me to roll forward past the point of where I intended to stop. This happened dozens of times before I was able to have it services by the dealer, at times making me roll into traffic at stop signs and almost rear end vehicles stopping in front of me. The dealer fixed the problem on the second attempt, the first time they attempted cleaning a sensor contact, before finally replacing the entire sensor unit. I had to pay out of pocket as it is a 2001 chevy Silverado 1500 with 80,000 miles.

11 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/21/2005

2001 Silverado pickup I have had two near miss incidents. Both involve my anti-lock breaks activating at low speed as I approach stop signs or red lights. All the sudden my breaks start pulsing and the truck will not stop. One time I had to veer onto the curb to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The last time my truck actually rolled in front of an oncoming semi truck. Luckly the truck was able to swerve and miss me. I approached the dealership today in person (may 4, 2004) and they flat out denied that they had a problem. The refuesed to acknowledge a safety concern and told me "if you want us to look at it we can, but we will have to charge you".

12 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/15/2005

Consumer states: when coming to a stop when you get to 10 mph or so, anti-lock brakes kick in but do not stop the vehicle. No fore warning. If pull the fuse for brakes the brakes will work fine.

13 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/11/2005

Problems with abs system, very tough on brakes. Had 3 sets of brakes in 68,000. Abs cuts in when just before you come a stop. Abs has been going past 2 months. Consumer has had the problem checked (abs) already.

14 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/06/2005

Abs warning light started coming on and off at random while driving. Randomly when pulling slowly up to intersection to stop, antilock brakes would engage and vehicle would not stop but instead roll out into intersection. Imediate fix was to release brakes and re-apply repeatedly to get vehicle to stop. Long term "temporary" fix was to remove 60 amp abs fuse to disable abs all together. (found this solution on internet) read a tip on the internet that stated problem was with the speed sensors and corrosion or rust building up around sensors. Removed both sensors and saw no corrosion. Replaced sensors and am currently driving without antilock brakes. (abs light and parking brake light are now permanetly lit as a result of removing the 60 amp fuse. ).

15 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

Consumer states: the abs wheel sensor releases the brakes when coming to a stop. No for warning noise but does make a noise when it comes on. When holding the pedal down the brakes release.

16 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/30/2005

At slow speed, just before stopping, brake pedal goes half way to floor and I get a ratching sound and feeling in the pedal. This has been going on for a month or so and it seems to be getting harder to stop. I think it has something to do with the abs system. I had no problem stopping on vehicles before the abs was introduced. I think it is a safety hazard, rather than eliminates one.

17 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/27/2005

Abs brakes on 2000 chevy sliverado pickup truck are functioning every time you step on the brakes.

18 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/03/2005

I started noticing in March of this year that sometimes my antilock brakes kicked in when there was no apparrent reason for them to do so. First it was maybe once a week and then it got to be everyday. I took my truck to the dealer where it was purchased, applegate Chevrolet, and they seemed to know right away what was wrong. My anti-lock brake sensors were corroted. $300 later it was fixed. Three of the sensors they were able to clean, one broke. I have the broken one that had to be totally replaced.

19 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/23/2004

Constant failure of my 2000 chevy Silverado brakes. My abs was constantly kicking in every time I was trying to stop at slow speeds. As an example: in my driveway. My mechanic was informed of service bulletins by gm about corrosion in the sensor area. I had one sensor replaced, but it was stated that this will happen again, it was just a matter of time.

20 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

Unwanted application of abs when stopping on dry pavement which causes greatly increased stopping distances.

21 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/25/2004

All of a sudden when trying to stop the vehicle will not stop. The pedal hits the floor but no brakes work. The truck has new rotors and pads on the back and front. We thought they were the problem but nothing changed after putting rotors and pads on. One time we pulled into a driveway and the truck would not stop and we hit the vehicle that was parked in the driveway, nothing was damaged.

22 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/27/2004

While vehicle was under warranty I complained of fading brakes while traversing rough spots in roads. Dealership mechanics said it was the abs system. He said I could disconnect it?but I chose not to. Now my 1999 Silverado has an even bigger problem. While performing a gentle stop the brake pedal becomes hard and vehicle will not stop unless I stand on the brake pedal. I crashed through my garage door the last time this happened. My brakes were inspected and they are all in good order. The mechanic did however notice that the abs was on constantly. ( so does someone have to die before action is taken on this matter) there is numerous complaint about the abs system in this truck.

23 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/13/2004

I own a 2000 chevy 1500. I have had a lot of problems with the abs braking system. At low speeds the abs will kick on and make it difficult to stop. I have almost created an accident on several occasions. I have spoken to the dealer and there is no recall for this common issue.

24 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/08/2004

Low speed activation of abs, tried to remedy with gm despite their awareness of the problem and a known design defect, they declined any assistance in the repair.

25 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/07/2004

No specific events leading up to failure. 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ext cab pickup. Abs kicks on everytime you try to stop. It occurs at low speeds on dry pavement (ex. Kicks in when pulling into parking space and it effects stopping time & distance and feels like I'm not going to stop in time before hitting the vehicle in front of me). The feeling of not being able to stop in time is a very uncomfortable feeling!! I have not had this repaired yet, but I really believe that the manufacturer should be responsible for this fix. I need to get this fixed soon, before somebody does get hurt or damage does occur.

26 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/26/2004

Like so many others, my abs system has gone out on my 1999 chevy Silverado, I was simply driving to town when the light came on, 34,000 miles on the vehicle. The motor kept running even when the vehicle was turned off, I immediately proceeded to my asc certified mechanic who reviewed the vehicle and informed me my abs module is shot and the estimated repair cost is $1000. 00+ (partially due to no aftermarket parts available. ) so not only is gm unwilling to acknowledge the problem, they are compounding the pain for owners by holding a monopoly on the repair part. Unacceptable - a recall is in order - this is a serious safety issue gm is not addressing.

27 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/15/2004

Contact states: contact was driving vehicle slowing down to pull into a parking spot, between 7-10 mph, the abs engagement does not allow you to brake completely and come to a complete stop and the contact hit a guard rail. Normal weather conditions. General motors being investigated for the brake problem. General motor refused to take care of the brake problem, they would take care of it but contact would be responsible for the cost. The service manager at a gm dealer said this problem happens approximately 30,000 miles. Contact unplugged the anti lock brake system.

28 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/06/2004

Anti-lock brakes don't respond immediately at stops. Like you don't have brakes and then they suddenly catch.

29 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/10/2004

I own a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4. The abs brakes will engage at 5-10 mph when normal, light pressure is being applied to the brakes during a normal stop. The brake pedal will then depress fully when you are not expecting it to. This will increase the stopping distance and in some cases I have almost hit the car in front of me because you are not expecting the pedal to depress to the floor. The problem will occur 5-10 times a day and is becoming worse. I sent my vehicle to the dealer and wanted to take a test drive with a technician because no warning lights occured. When I was explaining the problem to him he knew immediately what it was. It is obviously a common problem with these vehicles and is very dangerous. I have searched recalls for the vehicle and this problem has not been recalled yet. I have only 42,000 miles on the vehicle and believe this is a serious safety issue and should be a recall.

30 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

When applying the brakes, brake pedal would continue to pump back out, giving little use, or very hard stopping. Difficulty using brakes. Disconnected the abs.

31 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/01/2004

I am filing a complaint about Chevrolets faulty abs system. I have experienced several times where when hitting the brakes, they will lock up and I loose all break-power. This is an issue that highly concerns me due to the fact that there has been several incidences that have caused drivers to be the cause of an accident. I have done a lot of research on this issue and apperently I am not the only chevy owner with that problem. Gm needs to recall their abs system before someone seriously gets injured.

32 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/29/2004

In my opinion. . . The abs system on my 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 fails to work properly. Upon brake application @ speed. . . All four wheels consistantly "lock-up". . . Tires squeal. . . And vehicle is unstable. Upon visiting the dealer two times. . . The Chevrolet dealer states abs system is functioning properly. The salesman @ the dealership states he has heard the same complaints from several Silverado owners. . . And the problem lies within the tires. This raises my concern that Chevrolet has not engineered the oem tires to be properly matched to the abs system. . . Creating an unsafe and non-functional abs braking system. I expect my abs system to grunt. . . Growl. . . Groan. . . And the brake pedal to pulsate. . . But, not "lock-up" all four wheels!!! I previously owned 2001 and 2002 Chevrolet trucks. . . And I didn't notice this problem. If this is the best Chevrolet can do. . . Then I'll be looking look for a Ford. . . A Dodge. . . Or maybe a new full-size Nissan truck in 2004. Have you received any similar complaints?.

33 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/01/2003

The brakes on my 2003 cheverolet Silverado are very soft. They require greater stopping distance than normal under any driving conditions. When going down a hill or other incline, you must press the brake pedal to the floor in order to stop. Dealers have not resolved the problem.

34 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

1999 Chevrolet Silverado has two problems with brakes. First problem is that truck continues to go full speed after hitting brakes if there is any uneven roadway or if road is wet or if any number of other conditions exist. Very scary when it won't stop. 2nd complaint is abs module went out at 34,000 miles and 42 months. Was told that it was not under warranty. Spent $900 to replace, did not solve any of my braking problems. It is scary to drive because you never know when it will decide not to stop. Cannot identify a single date, the stopping problem has happened too many times to enumerate.

35 Air Brake Antilock problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/23/2003

I have a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The abs system fails to stop my vehicle in all types of normal situations which has already led to one accident. This was my first accident ever and thanks to my dealer who said there was no problem with my brakes I am sure this wont be the last accident. The vehicle brake system will freeze up if so much as a pebble vibration is felt, or stopping on a completely smooth and clean road normally. The scary thing is, I never know when my brakes are going to fail, and since there is no difference in between a smooth road or a pothole disabling the brakes I do not feel comfortable in my own vehicle. I have rolled through intersections, rolled through stop signs, and had one accident in this vehicle. I beleive that the Chevrolet company needs to correct this problem immediatly, for the liability and safty of all consumers. I am not the only person with brake problems in the Chevrolet Silverados from 1999 to current, I have met several and they were all told they have no probelms with there vehicles either. We are waitng for Chevrolet to correct this faulty brake system.
