I am having a problem with my 2001 chevy Silverado, the brakes when I press down on them sound like there isn't any brakes their at all, making a grinding and growling sound. I have had it at three different chevy dealers and they say that their isn't anything wrong with them. I know that their isn't something wrong with the brakes because it only makes that sound when I use my brakes. I am almost afraid to drive the truck long distance because I don't really trust it. Thanks.

Erratic stopping and squealing noise was noticed on may 17, 2005. Upon inspection, I found my rear break rotors on my 2002 chevy Silverado 2500hd (39,000 mi. ) to be extremely deteriorated. The metal is actually flaking off on the face of the rotors. The pads still have approx. 2/3 thickness remaining. I have not yet contacted the dealer, but from other complaints I've read, it looks like my dime to fix the problem.

All 4 rotors had to be replaced on my 2001 Silverado that had only 19,000 mi on it also all the brake shoes had to be replaced because the rotors had such rust build-up on them they ground off the shoes. This cost me over $400. 00 to have repaired. The vehicle is well maintained and garage kept.
All four brake rotors rusted out on my 2000 Chevrolet Silverado after only 15,000 miles and needed to be replaced. I was told by the dealer that they rusted out from the inside and that this was a common recurring problem with Chevrolet truck brake rotors. Of course, it was no longer under warranty. I do not think rotors should rust out after such a short time period and with such low mileage. Is there any recourse?.

During routine inspection mechanic noticed the front rotors were separating and rusty and had to be replaced. Mr.
Two complaints, same vehicle system: brakes. 1. My front brakes failed while driving @20mph thru a residential area. . Sailed through a stop sign but fortunately no one was at the intersection. Had to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor to get minimal stopping ability. No fluid leakage. Master cylinder level was still at 'max'; truck was towed to repair shop (procare); found both front brake lines blown due to severe rust; rear brake lines out of the differential appeared fine. Why would the brake lines rust through ??? 2. During this repair, procare stated that they found the rear rotors severely rusted and would need replaced. . . Again! [supposedly, procare stated that other large gm vehicles (sierra, tahoe, trailblazer, suburban, etc) have the same issue with rusting rotors. ] rear rotors and pads were replaced on this vehicle 11/26/2002 @19k miles due to severe rust. Front rotors and pads were replaced 9/5/2003 @26k miles due to sever rust. This vehicle is not used in any extreme conditions nor is it used for a business. Why are the rotors rusting ?? is gm using substandard parts? complaints to the chevy customer service number 1-800-222-1020 (as in the past) are futile and useless at this point.
Rotors rusted and wouldn't allow the brake pads to make full and proper contact with the rotors because they were used. The consumer feels that gm should be required to inform the vehicle owners that the parts are made with used materials and that the warranty is not valid. Could have caused serious injuries. * cb.
