2 Front Seat Belt Retractor problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/31/2008

The passenger seat belt locks in position to where the passenger cannot move and will tighten more until the seatbelt is removed and reattached. This is having to be done numerous times while the vehicle is in motion. The dealer has replaced the belt 3 times but has not corrected the problem. Gm is now saying that the belt is designed that way because of car seats possibly being placed in that position. Their other answer was to add a seatbelt extension to help the problem. This moves the belt to a very unsafe position on the passenger body. The connection of the lap belt and the shoulder belt is almost in the middle of the passenger body pushing the shoulder belt over the arm rather than the shoulder. We will not use this device. This has not caused an accident or injury but if the passenger is removing their belt every 30 min. While the vehicle is in motion it could have bad results.

28 Front Seat Belt Retractor problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

I own a 2001 k2500 hd Silverado extended cab pickup. The problem is that the passengers seat belt will lock up and not release its tension until the seatbelt is released and allowed to fully retract, and then refastened. The seat belt tensioning system has been replaced once with no improvement. The dealer reports that the unit is working as designed. However I believe that the design is defective in that the system should not lock the passenger in place until the seatbelt is released and allowed to fully retract, and then refastened. This problem creates a safety issue in that if an accident occurs while the passenger is resetting the seatbelt, the passenger is likely to be injured. This condition also makes it less likely for the passenger to be willing to wear the seatbelt.
