Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 13 problems related to fuel injector (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I took my 1500 chev pick-up to a gm dealer in ri,( hurd GMC) after I smelled gasoline when driving, the service dept informed me that the fuel line is rotted (at or near the fuel filter)and leaking gasoline near the exhaust, they told me not to drive the truck, for fear of a fire. They also noted that the brake lines the run down the drivers side frame rail are also rotted . I have repaired other brake lines in the front, last year, because of leaking brake fluid, the gm dealer quoted me a price of around $2000. 00 to replace the entire fuel line from the tank to the injectors. Which included replacment of all rotted brake lines. I have parked the truck for fear of a fire, or possible loss of brakes. The truck is not a rusted mess underneath, I took care not to drive on saltly roads, these lines are made of raw steel, I believe if they were stainless steel, I would not be in this mess. What does one do with a perfectly good truck, but can't drive it for fear of fire or crash ???.

: the contact stated while driving at no particular speed, the engine ran rough. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for inspection and the mechanic determined the fuel injectors were blocked. The injectors were changed; however, the problem persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the repair shop where the injectors were cleaned. Again, the problem was apparent and the vehicle was taken back to the mechanic. During the last inspection, the mechanic determined the fuel lines were corroded due to road salt corrosion. The fuel lines were replaced and the problem was corrected.
The contact stated while driving at 70 mph the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and found to have a faulty fuel filter. After, the filter was changed the vehicle was fine. The second incident occurred while driving again the vehicle lost power. The dealer changed the fuel injectors. The vehicle was having no problems at this time. He talked to gm, and they offered no free repair or remedy.

When taken for inspection, the dealer informed the consumer that the vehicle needed new brakes and rotors. The rotors were slightly pulling away from the wheel. Consumer never had any signs of a safety defect prior to this. The cause was undetermined. The consumer stated when he placed the vehicle in park and turned off the engine, the automatic doors locks failed. When the consumer attempted to gain speed, the vehicle stalled, the dealer stated the injector was bad.
Consumer received a notification enclosure number 04039. This was an improvement campaign for replacement of fuel injections. No parts were available. Service manager reggie garret. The fuel injector lines were rusted out spewing diesel everywhere.
Battery weak, check engine soon light comes on while driving. Replace fuel filter. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer who scanned the pcm and found dtc for engine misfire and injectors not dropping fuel pressure when commanded. Injectors 2 and 6 were cleaned. The cruise control light flashed on and off although the cruise control was not engaged. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.
The engine developed a skip while on vacation. I brought it to a garage, the technician diagnosed the problem as clogged fuel injectors. He showed me some clogged injectors from another 2000 Silverado that he had repaired the previous week. He claimed that rust was in the gas tank, and the fuel pump "sandblasted" the rust through the fuel filter and into the fuel injectors. It turns out that my truck had the same problem. He replaced the fuel injectors (all 8) and cleaned the fuel rails. He installed a new fuel filter. This cost over $1,100. After rturning from vacation, I thought I should find the cause of the rust in the fuel system. I took the gas tank out and discovered the plastic gas tank was full of rust. I tipped the el pump assembly upside down, and a great quantity of rusty gasoline poured out. I took this assembly apart and discovered that the fuel pump motor itself (a small steel canister device) was a ball of rust. The pump evidently is not galvanized or plated. The pump motor is the only steel component in the tank. The tank itself cannot rust. The rust from the pump was forced into the fuel system, causing the clogged fuel injectors. The price of the pump, not counting labor, is $409. 00.
This fuel injector pump was replaced 5 months after the purchase of this truck in July 1997 at 11,232 miles on the odometer. In sept of 2000 the same problems started again and was taken to dealership. They said they could diagnose it unless it was doing the stalling out, so we proceeded to drive the vehicle as it was our only means of transportation. On Dec. 26 we had truck towed to dealership to have the same part replaced as was done in 1997 only 5 months after we purchased this new truck. This part as told to us by Chevrolet and the dealership they had a special policy # 00064 - our ref # c02653123 thru chevr. Was told that there should be no problem in replacing the part again. Now they are renigin on it. Said we were over our miles - 120,000 or 11 yrs. The part was going bad at 118,187 in sept. , but we kept being told by the dealership that it was not showing up and was probably bad gas. We took it 3 times and they never documented it only fixed other problems. Now that the warranty is out, the truck has completely stopped running and they refuse to honor replacing the part that should have been done in sept. So here we are in the middle because of the dealership mechanics refusing to believe it was that until they replaced a water sensor to be able to put the computer on it to verify it and we had already taken it to 2 other mechanics that told us that was the problem and to take it to the dealership since it was a bad part that they were having trouble with since 1994. No one imformed us of this. . . Now we are faced with a bill of over $1700. 00 to replace this same part that we knew was bad and we were under the miles of our warranty for this, but since the dealership mechanics said that was not the problem, we kept driving it since it was our only means of getting to work. We need help. . . Thank you for anything you can do for us.
