Recall campaign: one of the consumer's tailgate cable broke on his 2000 Chevrolet Silverado prior to recall notification. The cable on the left side is stretched again, however the manufacturer stated the consumer would not be covered under warranty because it was already taken care of as a favor. The consumer stated when it was repaired it was a temporary fix, because the used the same cables.
I received two new tailgate cable supports from a dealer in arcadia, florida this past winter. I installed them myself on my 2002 chevy c2500 hd crew cab pickup. I have reason to believe the new cables are not made from stainless steel as they are supposed to be. This is because a magnet will stick to the cables, just like to old ones. The dealer really had no answer other than the new cables were the ones they were installing on everyone's vehicle that responded to the recall. I know that 203 type stainless steel has a small amount of carbon and will attract a magnet slightly, but I still believe the "new" cables are the same as the old ones. Thank you,
gene faulconer.

On my 1996 Silverado, the tailgate straps are starting to rust and break. I think that the recall should be extended because the recalled tailgate straps are put together the same was even if it is not the same model.
