10 Headlights problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/28/2006

1. New style headlights on new chevy and GMC pickups are fine at a distance, but are blinding as they approach closer from the rear. 2. Newer vehicles equipped with "fog" lights are a problem. They are typically used all the time and frequently mis-aligned. They should be require to default to the "off" position when the engine is turned off. This would probably eliminate 95% of the usage and therefore, problems. 3. The new led tail lights, particularly on large trucks are too bright. While they may be effective, you cannot tell if the brakes are applied or not. 4. New high intensity discharge lights on police cars are a problem. I understand they have day/night brightness settings. Police do not use the night setting. When approaching one (or more) stopped vehicles at night, the lights are so bright that you cannot see the road beyond the police car, causing a dangerous situation.

Daytime running lights burn out all the time, and I have been doing a survey on other like trucks, chev 2002 ,2003, and 2004, for every (10) I check (7) have a light out on one side or the other up front under the headlights .

19 Headlights problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/27/2004

Safety issue. The day time running lights on full size gm trucks burn out frequently. I replace at least one bulb per month on my 2002 cheverlot Silverado pick up truck. This issue is evident by the number of gm trucks you see on the road with at least one bulb burned out. I personally know people that have given up on replacing these bulbs and are driving with out the day time running light. I have filed a comlaint with gm (file number 1-211800556). Dealer says that the vehicles that they have done diagnostic checks on show no problems. The dealer also says all they can do is replace the bulbs (at a cost if you are out of warranty).

21 Headlights problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/30/2002

The truck has an automatic headlight circuit. (at twilight the headlights are energized without manual turn-on. ) among the many electronic features there is also a ã‚dome light overrideã‚ button. This feature allows you to control whether or not the dome light comes on when the door is opened. One can easily assume it is to turn on and off the dome light without opening the door. However, this is not the case. If you are driving with the headlights on the automatic circuit and you push the ã‚dome overrideã‚ 3-4 times, all the lights go out (including the dashboard lights). To re-energize the headlights you must do one of the following: 1. Turn ignition off and back on. (impossible to do if driving. ) 2. Hit the dome override button 3-4 more times. (not an intuitive correction. ) 3. Turn the headlight manual switch to on. (good idea if you know about the problem beforehand and have the presence of mind to do it while driving 60-70 mph on a blacktop highway. And if you can find the switch knob in total darkness while steering and braking in total darkness. ) the really bad: checking with the dealer about this defect, I was told this feature is designed into the electronics. That is, ã‚its not a defect, its supposed to do this.  the really, really bad (and gmã‚s major liability): nowhere in the detailed instruction manual does gm warn, caution, or even mention this feature. Apparently, this is something only mr. Goodwrench is supposed to know. Conclusion: being an engineer myself, I find this built-in feature (defect) to be mind-boggling.

22 Headlights problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/01/2002

The head lights were designed improperly.

23 Headlights problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/20/2002

Daytime running lights keep burning out. I have order 9 lights over 2 years, after about the 5th light going out I'm assuming there is a lose of ground, or improper fabracation of the unit that holds the light in place, one way or another something is making the light to make a loud pop when it burns out, loud enugh to hear it over the radio.

24 Headlights problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/09/2002

Conusmer stated the instrument panel lights and headlights would go out while driving, headlights go out when dome overide is pushed 4 times, dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time.

25 Headlights problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/15/2001

The fuel gauge sending unit failed (I go by mileage to know if I need fuel or not). Driver's side seat belt locks up when you go to look to change lanes (dealer couldn't reproduce the problem--so it's never been fixed). Passenger seat belt locks up if you just lean forward to roll down the window (was told this was a mechanism for a baby seat--didn't think car seats were supposed to be in the front seat). Right side daytime running lamp burned out a long time ago. Abs module failed (had to pull the fuse so the pump wouldn't burn up) therefore the truck no longer has abs. Driver's side front wheel hub failed due to lack of grease in the non-consumer maintainable bearing (the whole hub had to be replaced). The water pump has already failed (replaced that). The transmission is starting to slip here & there. The accelerator sticks causing you to have to jam on it in parking lots & other places where it's just not safe to be darting forward. This model year was just a bad year for gm. They need to fix these problems. This is the worst gm vehicle I've ever owned (and I've been a loyal gm customer all my driving years).

28 Headlights problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/15/2000

Emergency brake has been adjusted 4-5 times. When applied, brake holds vehicle, but pedal goes to the floor. Also, dealer replaced brake pads. Daytime running bulb blew out after it had just been replaced. Rear window assembly was leaking, power window was slow going up. Transfer case was replaced due to a clunk noise, transaxle shaft replaced due to leaking. Front brake hose experienced an abrasion. Vehicle was leaning, dealer adjusted front torsion bar.

29 Headlights problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/05/1999

Headlights went out while driving at night multiple times, both hi and lo beams. Only way to get them back was to shut off vehicle completely, and this only worked some of the time. Problem likely a result of this dealership attempting to fix an instrument panel squeak which caused a short. Dealer now attempting to repair.

30 Headlights problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/01/1999

I work on a military base and am required to dim headlights when passing through a guard gate. The automatic headlamps cannot be disabled. Gm claims this meets all 1999 safety standard and will not fix the headlight system. I have also discovered that the year 2000 model truck can have the automatic headlights disabled on a temporary basis. While I feel this is not directly related to driver safety I think this is an important issue for all the mps, guards, police that expect not to be blinded by drivers approaching a guard gate or checkpoint. Thank you for considering this issue. Dave schultz.

31 Headlights problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/23/1999

34 Headlights problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Headlights flicker, at night, dealer stated "this is normal" something to do with the computer recycling every 90 seconds. Sure is annoying.
