Chevrolet Silverado owners have reported 11 problems related to radio/tape cd player (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle radio display is too bright. Using the dimmer does still leaves the radio the brightest display inside the passenger compartment blinding the driver at night. The only option is to turn the display off which takes 5 separate inputs to the display control. Once the display is turned off any other input to the radio or heating/ac controls turns the display back on and requires another display input to turn the display off again.

While traveling with the radio on, the radio volume went off. Other radio information on the video screen appeared normal. Onstar volume was also off. Also when seat belts were disconnected while driving there was no audible signal. After stopping and restarting the vehicle everything was normal.

We have many problems with our truck. I dont remember all the dates so I am starting with the most recent and will work back. On 7/17/14 I was driving down the highway when the steering wheel of my truck locked up on me and the truck would no longer accelerate. I could no longer steer. Had I not been trying to make a lane change when it happened, I would have been ran over by 2 semis who then had to scramble to avoid hitting me. One took the turn lane while the other almost ran a car off the road to get around me. Everything else on the truck was still working, lights, ac, radio, windows, everything, just not steering. One time I turned on my truck and could not switch through the gears so that I could drive and the dash had no information on it (no compass, temp reading, mileage). It would move through the gears but it wouldn't drive. I had to turn my truck on and off 3 times before I could drive. Our driver side window no longer auto rolls down, our bumper is falling apart and we have never been in an accident, the drivers door leaks when it rains, and our door locks will occasionally not disengage so when we go to shut the door it just bounces of the latch. This has caused one of our doors to come off the hinges and almost fall off our truck. We have had all 4 door locks replaced and they are still doing it.

I've had issues with my truck from the beginning. You can say it's a lemon I had the truck for less than a year and had to have the transmission repaired, radio doesn't work, window does work, back window slider doesn't work. All lights are going on. I should not have all this issues for this truck. That's why bought a new truck.

The vehicle has problems shifting from first to second gear. Sometimes the gears change smoothly, and other times there is a thumping sound accompanied by jerking. This problem has occurred at least four times in the last month. In addition when making the transition from a low speed to a higher speed the vehicle's transmission would not engage into the proper gear. This made it seem like the vehicle was in neutral. The dealer fixed the problem with a retrofit kit and the vehicle seems to be working fine. The vehicle's cd player was not functioning properly. The dealer replaced and reprogrammed the cd player.

My 1 1/2 year old 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, after doing what it says in one of your bulletins, cd gets hot, ejects cd, and resets clock to 12:00, quit working. While I drive a lot and the truck has 54000 miles on it, the stereo has never touched the pavement, and does not have 54000 miles on it, yet, Chevrolet refuses to replace this defective stereo system. Which means, I guess, that they have a life expectancy, of their stereo systems, of 1 1/2 years. No help from the dealer, or general motors at all with this complaint. They offered to replace for 450. 00, which is idiotic to get replaced if they are not going to stand behind it when it goes bad in 1 1/2 years. Highly disappointed in general motors lack of backing of their products.

1999 Silverado brake system failed, when pressing the brakes they went to the floor. The consumer experienced brake failure on 5 separate occasion. On 2 of the 5 occasions the consumer rear ended a vehicle and the last time the consumer was unable to stop the vehicle and subsequently crashed through a garage door. The consumer stated she was never notified of the recall investigation of the abs. The dealer did admit on the invoice there was a problem, however they refused to fix it. The cd player was not reading the cd's it would issue an error message.
