Carrier/rack Problems of Chevrolet Silverado - part 1

Was driving to physical therapy. Pulled up to a stop light and "stabilitrack failure" poped up. Was pulling into the doctors office not 8 min l8r came up again but this time steering wheel locked up then un locked then locked up multiple times while I was trying to pull into a parking space. Thankfully I was going at an extremely low speed and I could control the vehicle between it locking and unlocking. When I left the doctors office I noticed my settings reset. Ex dashboard display showed the radio station instead of the fuel economy. I simply changed it and noticed the computer erased my previous fuel economy. I'm assuming theirs some malfunction between the computer and these systems. And from the looks of it my vehicle isn't the only vehicle with this issue. Now my check engine light is on and I'll be taking this back to the dealer and it will be fixed and never happen again or I won't purchase another gm vehicle.

I have a 2008 Silverado 2500hd with 48,000 miles on it and just noticed two cracks have formed above the passenger airbag. Even though the warranty has expired I feel this is a manufacturing defect and should be replaced by Chevrolet at no charge. The vehicle has always been stored sun protected except when traveling. At that time a dash screen is used for sun protection. I contacted the Chevrolet customer assistance center immediately and they had me take my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer for examination. I had my vehicle examined at the Chevrolet dealership on March 21, 2016. They examined the vehicle, took photos and told me they would get back to me with the decision. They did so later that day but the decision was to replace the dash which would be $1000. 00 of which gm would be willing to pick up half, so my out of pocket expense would be $500. 00. I refused this offer and told the dealer I would be contacting the Chevrolet customer assistance center to dispute me having to pay $500. 00 out of pocket expense to correct a manufacturers defect. I contacted the Chevrolet customer assistance center immediately via phone and asked that the issue be elevated to the appropriate person. I provided the representative all the information she requested from me and she assured me that she would elevate the issue to the senior manager in my area and they would get back to me within 48 hours with a decision. As of this writing I have not heard back from anyone.

The dashboard cracked on the passenger side of vehicle near the top left corner of the passenger side air bag. Dealership would fix the issue but only at full cost to me, even though I expressed the concern I have how if the airbag were to deploy the sharp edges of the cracked area may not allow the air bag to work properly. I. E. Could puncture the airbag. Also shards of the dashboard could cause harm if airbag were to deploy.

The dash board is cracked around the left corner of the passengers side airbag.

The truck had less than 50,000 miles when we noticed a crack in the dash running from the upper left corner of the air bag cover and the defroster vent. I know several other trucks with this same issue. It appears to be a design flaw. I went to the local dealer and he estimated it would take nearly $1,000 to fix. I wonder if this crack would be negatively influenced if the air bag ever inflates causing more damage or injury.

Started hearing noise from dash on highway upon further inspection notice cracks on dashboard on passenger side around air bag.

The dash is cracked by the air bag housing the door handles are discolored and the exhaust system is also discolored.

The dashboard is cracked in three different places. One near the steering wheel, the other one is mid dash and the last one is near the passenger airbag. I noticed this first as I was driving down the road and later it happened while the vehicle was stationary. I would hate to know that if the passenger airbag where to go off that chunks of the dashboard might go flying and injure anyone in the vehicle.

2013 ltz Silverado 47,000 milage dash cracked in the upper left corner of airbag area. Feel could be a safety hazard if in an accident and airbag is deployed causing the dash to throw shards of plastic in cab. It cracked one day just as I started truck while stationary.

My dash is cracking around the passenger airbag and above the instrument cluster. I am concerned that the cracked areas could come loose and become a projectile. The engine is also burning oil badly and could shut down while driving.

Takata recall the dash in my 2011 Chevrolet pickup suddenly cracked. It is cracked in the corner of the passenger airbag I ask my Chevrolet dealer and they said it wasn't covered under the warranty. I have heard of several gm owners that have thw same problem . The venicle was not in motion. This vehicle has not been exposed to extended peroids of sunshine or hot weather. The vhicle is normally kept in my garage when not in use. Photos could be privided but I do not know how to do it.

The dashboard in the vehicle is cracking next to my airbag. If the airbag deploys it is going to send debris flying. The dashboard is extremely weak in these trucks and Chevrolet says not their problem. The current crack in my dash is approximately 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch depending on temperature. There is an obvious defect in the dashboards and from what I've read if you pay the big bucks for the fix it will crack again eventually. It would be one thing if it was cracked in a place other than next to the airbag. I hope Chevrolet is forced to take action before an airbag deploys and pieces of dash go flying through the cabin of the truck.

Cracked dashboard.

I have a 2011 Silverado 1500 and about 6 months ago my dash around the passenger air bag started to crack. I now have 2 cracks and the area feels loose which worries me that in case of a accident with airbag deployment on the passanger side, that this could impair the safety and design for its purpose.

Truck was parked when I got back into it the dashboard was cracked.

Was driving and heard loud pop. Pulled over and inspected dash and found crack around airbag area passenger side of truck.

The dash bord in my truck has a crack next to the air bag which am scare is going to be a safe issue and this I noticed when the truck had about 45000 miles.

The dash has cracked in 2 places next to the passenger airbag. Should it deploy there will be a piece as long as a big knife that will become a projectile.

My dash was fine on 6-10-15, when got in it on the morning of 6-11-15 the dash was cracked by the airbag. The vehicle is 5 years old but only has 54,000 miles. Three cracks around the passenger airbag. First cracked appeared about 60,000 miles followed by the next smaller one then around 85,000 the larger one. This appears to be a common problem that gm is aware of but is not accepting responsibility for the potential safety hazard.

Cracks in the dash at the airbag may become projectiles.

The vehicle had been parked for approximately 7 hours. The door was opened and as we opened the door the entire rear window exploded. There were absolutely no chips or cracks in the rear glass. It simply exploded when the door opened.

Dashboard crack near passenger airbag. Safety issue in my opinion. Numerous other complaints not vehicle specific. Many Chevrolet dashboard issues. Facebook page dedicated to gm crack dash issues.

There are multiple cracks surrounding my passenger airbag in my 2012 Silverado. I believe these cracks are not only a manufacturer defect in design but are also a safety concern regarding the air bag deployment. Research has shown this is an issue that many others are having too with this model truck/SUV.

Dashboard is cracked in 2 places adjacent to the airbag cover. Gm and the dealer are willing to replace it out of warranty but are requiring me to cover nearly half the replacement cost of $700. This should be a recall issue as an airbag deployment would create plastic projectiles in the cabin that could injure a passenger. I can provide a photo if requested.

The dashboard is cracked in 3 places around the airbag. This could potentially be a safety hazard if the airbag were to deploy sending projectile pieces of plastic towards the occupants of the vehicle. The cracks in the dashboard formed due to an obvious design flaw. There was no incident that caused the cracks just normal driving.

"dash boards". . . . My 2000 Chevrolet Silverado dashboard is cracking and crumbling everyday. It is to the point now that I am adding duck tape just to keep it up. Chevrolet should take responsibility for this and repair my dashboard and issue a recall. This problem began 1 year ago, and I have never been in any accident with this truck.

A crack has formed at the top left corner of the airbag area, on the passenger side of the dash.

I have owned the truck since new. In the last year the dash started cracking right above the passenger airbag. During the last month the crack has extended to the windshield.
