5 Tire Blowout problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/20/2009

Right front tire blew out, when we went to have them replaced we noticed a bump in all four tires, upon calling general we were told to take the truck to sears (authorized dealer) to look over the tires, sears confirmed that there was a belt separation in all four tires. We were told by general tires they would give us a 60% replacement on one tire. We then called general motors to report the problem they told us we needed to take the truck to the dealer where the truck was purchased. After leaving the truck all day the service manager reported that the replaced tire was not an original tire (it was the one we had fixed due to blow out) and that it should not be warranted. At this time nothing has been done to fix any of the tires. We were told by a representative at general motors that there were other reports of problems with these tires. A second representative denied that other problems has been reported. There is definitely a manufacturers defect in all four tires.

16 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/18/2002

I had just entered onto the interstate and had gone about 5 miles when my front right tire blew sending me to the side of the road. I have always rotated these tires every 6000 miles and kept 32-34 pounds of air pressure in them. When the tire blew the whole tread from around the tire separated leaving only the two sidewalls attached to a severely damaged mag-alloy wheel. I was the only one in the vehicle and suffered no apparent injuries. However it is a little unerving to have this happen at 65 miles per hour. I went to the firestone dealer and was told that this paticular tire was under no recall and there are no complaints. I am sure I will have no luck getting reimbursed for the tire/tires and rim but feel it necessary to at least make a complaint regarding this tire. Like I said proper maintenance had been performed on these tires and the dealer commented the remaining three looked similar in wear with no abnormalities. All three remaining tires had exactly the same amount of wear. I appreciate the opportunity to report this incident and will appreciate any help I can get.

17 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/20/2001

Driving on a grated dirt road, the right front tire blew and almost took us of the road. We were going camping and was fortunate it did not happen when we were going passed the step ledges. When the tire blew it forced us off the road and into some brush. No vehicle or passenger injury (luckily). I just want to report this issue so that maybe firestone will do a recall on some of the other tires that are obviously defective. Please take this near miss into consideration, because if this tire blew about 8 miles earlier we could have went off the embankment. (tiresize: p265/75/16).

18 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/12/2001

While driving on the freeway at 75miles per hour the left rear tire had a blowout, the tire completely peeled apart. It took my husband about 1mile to come to a stop, during which time the tire caused damage to the paint , wheel well, tore off a mud flap, and bent the steel rim. The vehicle is a work truck so my husband purchased 4 new tires immediately the truck was vibrating because of the bent rim so he also purchased new rims. Please let me know if anything that I might collect from firestone. I know his tires are not on the recall???but it came apart just like all the tires you see on tv and the internet. . . Thanx in advance jo lachance. (dot number: vn11bfc tiresize: lt245/75r1).

21 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/25/2000

On August 25, going to work from a late lunch, I experienced a blowout on the right front tire. When the tire blew in threwmy truck into a large curb ruining the bumber, right front corner panel, parts of the door as well as suspension bendage, and ruining both wheels. Between me and my insurance company it cost almost 3000. 00 to fix. , besides me having to make a claim which wll probably raise my insurance rates. 2 weeks later the news came out that 16" general tires were being recalled because of this problem on the Lincoln navigators. I am interested if there have been any other of these tires recalled, because of not only the money im out of pocket, but the depreciation it caused my truck(not to mention I could have been injured severely because of this blowout. Please advise me, meantime I will contact my insurance company and my lawyer. Thanks. Jmk. ( dot number: tire size: 255/70/r16 ).

23 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

A 10 inch piece of rubber blew out the side of tire on a trip to virgina. My wife was driving the truck and the tire blew at 70mph. She was able to get the truck stopped without a crash. A state trooper came and changed the tire. She took the tire to a firestone dealer and they acted like the tire blowing out was no big deal. I think it is!!! being 600 miles from home all she could do was buy a new tire, but the dealer made sure that they kept the tire that blew out. I wonder why!!!!!( dot number: tire size: 16in. ).

26 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/12/2000

Just reporting this as it seems premature for a tire to blow, especially sidewall with only 12,000 miles on. Cannot say for sure cause of failure but it did go completely flat . It was fine when I left and properely inflated, went out within a mile, truck started to handle rough so I pulled into a parking lot and tire was resting on rim completely flat with sidewall slit open. . Since it is a wilderenss tire and they have some defects I thought I should mention this. Tire was repalced and disposed by pomps service who replaced it. No one could really say what caused it to go and I shrugged if off as bad luck and bought new one. Maybe it was defective to start. If this helps you take a bad tire off road, great. Don't need someone else hitting the ditch because of bad tire. If I had been running along on interstate at faster speed I would have been in ditch. . Fortunately I was just starting out and close to home and slowed down and got off road when I felt vehicle handle sloppy. . ( dot number: tire size: p265/75r16 ).

27 Tire Blowout problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/02/2000

In early may 2000, the left front tire blew out going 65mph on the highway. I was able to keep control of the vehicle and pull into the breakdown lane to replace it. The tire was a firestone steeltex at tire which was original equipment on my chen ck1500 with approx 60,000 miles. There is still adequate tread on the tires. It looks like a sidewall blowout. (dot number: vn11bab157 tiresize: lt24575r16).

28 Tire Blowout problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/11/2000

Tire blew out while traveling 55 mph. The damage to the tire was right where the tread and sidewall meet. When I took the tire to a firestone dealer I was told that it appeared to be a "zipper problem". After the firestone warranty dept. Was called I was then told that they couldn't tell why the tire had failed because I had obviously driven on it while it was flat. I informed them that it is hard to come to a complete stop from 55 mph. , and that I had to drive aprx. A tenth of a mile to where I could safely pull off of the road. I was offered a replacement tire at either at 1/2 off or at dealer's cost I don't remember. The replacement also has the "vd" designation. ( dot number: vd11b1c tire size: lt24575r16 ).

31 Tire Blowout problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/01/1999

While driving my pickup on a 4 lane road the right front tire sidewall blew out. There was no apparent reason for the blowout. The tire had a hole in it the size of a grapefruit next to the tread. I took the tire to a chev dealer in phoenix arizona and they gave me a discount on another tire but would not replace it free. I also went to a firestone store owned by firestone. They told me there was nothing they could do except sell me a new set of tires. They did tell me that a passenger tire for a pickup was not the idea tire. However, they told me to appeal to women drivers and get a smooth ride they put passenger tires like mine on Chevrolet trucks. Great huh? I just missed having an accident. Nobody after looking at the tire could tell me what caused it to explode. ( dot number: tire size: p265/75r16 ).
