Kumho tyres on my chevy Silverado developed sidewall splits due to dry rot. Tyres are only 1 year old and have 26,000 miles on them. They did not want the dot numbers. Contacted kumho and they said they weren't concerned. My auto shop said the tyres were unsafe to drive and replaced them. The indifference and rudeness of the kumho customer service person charles and his supervisor was appalling. Absolutely no concern that this could create a potentially fatal tyre failure. Very disturbing and quite a surprise.

5 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 01/02/2006

: the contact stated while driving at 50 mph on a highway a hissing noise was heard as if there was air leaking, followed by the rear end of the vehicle swaying. The contact pulled over, and the contact discovered the left rear tire blew out along the sidewall area. There were no obvious road hazards. The tire indicator warning lights did not illuminate, and the contact had not experienced any prior problems with the tires. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer collected the tire, and a manufacturer representative inspected the tire. Under the representatively instruction the dealer replaced the tire. The manufacturers recommended tire pressure to be 35 psi; however, the contact kept the pressure at 40 psi. The contact believed the tires on the vehicle were incorrect, but the manufacturer had the exact same tires listed on the recommendation sticker on the vehicle itself. The tires are general ameri-trac p245/70/r17 and were the original tires at purchase. The contact's father owns a 2003, Chevrolet impala which is still under warranty and had the same exact failure on two occasions. The first time the dealer, service Chevrolet, replaced the computer. The second time the car had to be towed to the dealership and the ignition switch was replaced. The problem with these vehicles can lead to a very dangerous situation if heat is needed in the car during the winter, but it will not start. Contact maintains that there should be a recall.

6 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/12/2005

I purchased new, a 2002 Chevrolet 2500 hd crew cab 4x4 from ed morse sawgrass Chevrolet. In 2004, after noticing signs of cracking on the sidewalls and area where the sidewall meets the treads on all four tires, I brought the truck to maroone Chevrolet service center for inspection. I explained that I was concerned that the tires, having approximately 24,000 miles on them, should not be cracking that it might be dangerous. The supervisor inspected them and told me that it was normal and I had nothing to worry about. I asked for something in writing and he refused to give me anything. As a result, in December 2005, while returning from vacation with my family, without warning there was a sudden loud noise followed by a severe vibration and difficulty in handling. I immediately pulled off the road. Upon inspection I found that the entire tread was missing from the right rear tire (firestone steeltex a/t). Luckily at that time the tire still held pressure. Had I not immediately pulled over, the tire could have blown out and the results could have been devastating. Upon further inspection when I arrived home, when the tread separated from the tire it damaged the support bars in the wheel well and folded up the fender behind the tire. As the other three tires look the same, I am concerned for my family's safety and am not driving the vehicle until I have replaced all tires. I have written to the dealership and consumer affairs and have not gotten a response from either.

New tires (dayton timberline ht p255/70r16) were placed on the vehicle on 7/24/99 by myself since I was leaving town on that date for vacation. A ridge has appeared half-way down on all four tires sidewalls and 1/8" deep diagonal ripping of the rubber is appearing all around these ridges. I contacted the dealer and t hey told me to take the vehicle to a firestone dealer. The firestone dealer (frank s. Galli) located in wappingersfalls, n. Y inspected the tires and agreed that they should be replaced as soon as possible. He checked the vehicles mileage and told me that since the truck has 23,300 miles on the odometer and falls within the bumper-to-bumper dealer warranty , I should take the truck back to the dealer for replacement tires. I called the dealer and informed him what the firestone dealer told me. They said "bring the vehicle to barton birks so that they can inspect the tires and if they agreed on replacing them, it would take two to three weeks to order the tires". My question is, must I accept firestone replacements, or can I request a brand of my choice?.
