Six problems related to abs brake fail have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Abs bearing failure for 4th time. Brake lines all need replaced due to rust. I have never had this on cars with 200,000 miles on them. All brake lines are corroded. It will cost as much to fix as truck is worth. Truck has only 57,000 miles on it. All chevy owners seem to experience these issues.
My 1999 chevy Silverado 1500 4wd (purchased new by me) has had multiple corrosion/rust brake line failures that first began when the vehicle was only three years old. One event left me desperate as the failure occurred when backing my 8,000lb boat down a steep boat ramp into the water. The abs module also failed to operate when only two years old. All of this has led to extremely expensive repairs and modifications at my expense. My truck was not included in the previous rust belt states recall as I live in virginia.
Abs failed, motor kept running until the fuse was pulled, went to dealer, I was told repairs would cost $800-1100 for repair. I was told there was a recall in the ice belt states, but not in the south. . The abs failed and caused an accident, I was traveling 35 mph with a 1000 pound trailer in tow, a vehicle suddenly stopped in front of me and I hit him, minor damage $2500. My point is the south has a humidity problem that causes electrical components to fail, we have salt air in mobile, alabama. This recall should be for all not just the ice belt c/k 1500 pickups.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. There was a recall issued on the braking system, which included the rims, emergency brakes, and rotors. The abs light illuminated when the vehicle was started, but then dimmed after a few minutes. The failure occurred for over a week until the light remained completely illuminated. The dealer stated that the abs control box failed. Chevrolet stated that the vehicle had too many miles to be repaired under the recall. The contact believes that if there was a recall on the entire braking system that was repaired when the vehicle had the same mileage, then the abs control box should be repaired under the recall as well. The failure mileage was 217,000 and current mileage was 224,000.
