Six problems related to brake disc caliper have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

I while driving vehicle, it lost brake pressure causing the brake pedal to push to the floor, upon examination it was discover the brake lines that run from the master cyclinder to abs module were rusted out and the brake lines from the abs module to the brake calipers where rusted out as well. The brake lines had to relpaced.

2 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

This is the 3rd time I lost brakes,in 2005,w 54000 miles, I lost all brakes and had to replace all rusted calipers rotors and rear rusted hand brake cables and drums. In8/10/10 w/74000 miles and had rusted brake line repaired. Now on 10/ 10/13 lost all brakes, due to another rusted brake. I had all rusted brake lines tested and replaced, by a auto repair shop. These repairs cost me 2300. 00 dollars. Ps/this vehicle has only 88000 miles,6000 miles a year and always, always has a undercarriage wash in salt road conditions. The only major problem with this truck is the bad brake rust problems. No other vehical I owned has had rust as this truck. I still own a 1972 vw that has all original brake lines w/ no rust.

3 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

Replaced brakes and calipers bleed system then went to drive and when stopping no pedal at al. Rear brakes work fronts dont. Rebled brakes and with both front lines off there is no fluid coming out the lines and when testing the rear I get fluid coming out. My truck is disabled till I can fix this.

4 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2012

Thankfully after removing my box of my truck to repair rust, I noticed severe corrosion/rust on the brake line that feeds the rear calipers (enough corrosion where it was bowing out and slightly leaking). I went out and purchased corrosion proof flex line and replaced the entire line. Upon further inspection the entire line is basically corroded away. I started looking at the other lines and they all have this same problem I really can't afford to replace them all nor do I have the time, reading online I'm not the only one. This should be investigated, this is putting many lives at risk! please investigate this. Gm needs to be held for this problem.

5 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2012

On January 11 2012 I was driving my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1999 home from work. It was a clear night with clear road conditions. I went to hit the brakes, and as was the case when the brake lines blew in my Chevrolet silverado 2500 2000 I felt little to no pressure before the pedal slammed to the floor. I had to use the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and had to pay $300 for new lines. The rear axle brake lines on both sides blew, as well as the driver's side front brake line going to the brake caliper from the brake booster. I would like to have the brake lines repaired by a dealer at no cost to me, as I had them done at an independent shop with aftermarket parts. I have faith in gm, and continue to buy nothing but gm products, and would like my problem repaired with the gm customer service, reliability and durability that I have seen with gm products in my history of ownership.

6 Brake Disc Caliper problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2010

All this due to rusted out brake lines. On 3/9/10 I was approaching a stop sign in a 35mph zone. I put my foot on the brake pedal and the pedal went to the floor. I was able to give it a few pumps and I stopped in time. I immediately drove 4 blocks to auto shop. The mechanic found a ruptured brake line going to the back brakes due to rust. Four days later I had to return my truck to the shop because my back brakes were sticking. I was informed that rust and corrosion had gotten into the back hoses and/or calipers and would not release properly. At that time he replaced the rear hoses and calipers. On 10/2/11 I had brake failure again. This time it was the front brakes. My mechanic informed me that it was a brake line coming off the abs unit in the front of the truck. There are five brake lines in that area and they were all rusted. He said he would have to replace all of them because they would eventually fail. At that time, the front brake calipers were so rusted that he could not bleed the brakes, and he suggested to replace the hoses and calipers and all five brake lines, which I did. He also told me there is a cross brace on the frame that was almost rusted thru and needed to be taken to a welder to be fixed.
