Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problems of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - part 2

Brake pedal became spongy while driving. Upon reapplying the brakes, pedal went straight to the floor and vehicle creeped to a stop. Upon inspection, saw brake fluid on ground and spewing out from brake lines by driver's rear side. Had vehicle towed to dealership, where they said that all of the brake lines were rusted out.

My mechanic told me that my brakes will fail from rusted brake lines at any time. A problem he sees every week. The under side of my truck is completely rust free and the brake lines look like the came from the bottom of the ocean! I am afraid to put my self and my family and other people at risk driving this truck. The repair cost is out of my grasp. I also have a 2002 Subaru with many more miles on it driven on the same roads in the same weather and you could take those lines off and sell them for new!I am 62 and have owned alot of cars and trucks in my life and never have seen any thing with that poor of metal used on something you use every day. I only have to mention to a service center what truck I have and before I tell them why I am calling they ask I still have brakes.

My son was driving my truck and as he tried to stop to turn into a drive, the truck would not stop. Luckily he drifted to a stop and called my husband immediately. We towed the truck to an auto repair station in town where they found that the brake lines had rusted through. They replaced the brake lines which ended up costing us $767. 80. After speaking to a friend about this, he showed my husband an article about how gm pickups have been having issues with rusted brake lines and that they should be recalling these vehicles.

The gear lever was shifted into park however, the vehicle did not respond. The contact was a certified mechanic and stated that the front and rear brake lines would need to be replaced due to corrosion however, the required parts were no longer being produced by the manufacturer. The vehicle ws not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Brake lines are severely corroded and need to be replaced before they fail and result in an accident.

Brake line to the rear driver's side brake failed and broke and lost hydraulic pressure to braking system. Pulled over into a gas station and had the vehicle towed to local dealer for repair/replacement.

Descending small hill to make turn and brakes failed. Was able to get vehicle stopped, but was in-town situation and very dicey for a few moments. Investigation revealed rotted brake line(s). Repaired rear lines for $500 . . Was fri afternoon and 100 miles from home and couldn't get brakes repaired until tues. Mechanic said all lines should be replaced and I agreed front lines still need doing. $300-500. I have had the low speed abs issue in this vehicle as well. This is an issue that is way premature! this is a serious safety issue and gm needs to step up! it's obviously common. People will be killed or seriously injured. But the person killed won't be writing this letter, eh? NHTSA--where are you?.

While pulling into a store parking lot the brakes gave out, causing the brake pedal to go straight to the floor. Upon inspection I noticed a brake line completely rotted going to the rear splitter near the frame and electrical harness. The rest of the line seems perfectly intact so this section of line should not have deteriorated. After researching this issue, I found that this is a huge problem for chevy owners. I hope that this issue is looked into and a resolution is found before someone is injured or worse. Incidentally, my wife was driving with my children when this incident occurred.

Lost brakes, repair shop found brake line rusted thru and all the lines were rusted and needed to be replaced !.

Brake lines rusted through and lost brake power. Brake fluid all over due to the lines rupturing. Absolutely unacceptable!!!!!! huge safety issue.

Failed inspection for coroded brake lines.

Brake line blew out when appling brakes to make a left turn. No pedal response, pedal went to the floor.

I was driving to my house over a bridge, with a load of wood and lost control of my vehicle due to no brakes. I quickly put the truck in lower gear and press on the emergency brake skidding to the side of the road. I was nervous as I was traveling on a road and onto a bridge. Later I found brake fluid all over the front of my engine compartment and noticed the front brake line on the drivers side was rotted/rusted. I was shocked to see this on a 2006 truck , only 6 years old. Most of the lines on the rail in the plastic clips were rusted. This could have caused a major incident if I was traveling at a high rate of speed.

When returning to my truck in my driveway, I discovered the majority of my brake fluid on the ground. The brake line to my driver side rear ruptured when the parking brake was applied, the rupture was caused by a complete rust through of the line.

I depressed the brake pedal while pulling into my driveway and the pedal went to the floor. Upon further inspection I discovered that my brake lines are severely rusted and one line has a hole in it. My vehicle has low miles and this should not be an issue. This is a very serious problem and I or my family could have been severely injured.

Danger/ will my brakes work,truck go into flames or will the frame break in half. Rust! my 2006 chevy silverado p/u is showroom on top and 50 years old on the bottom. I am an auto tech with 39 years in the industry and have not seen a frame and what's attached to it rust like this. Im into brake lines, hoses and labor @ $1,000. Rotten fuel lines and sender and OH yes the fuel tank straps rot and tank could fall and break lines ,wiring $800-$1000. Then take to body shop to paint&seal frame $ unknown. Is this my last gm?.

Approximately 34,000 miles later, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who advised that the failure was caused by salt and rust on the brake lines. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 40,000.

The dealer diagnosed that the brake line and fuel lines were covered with rust. The entire frame was rusted as well. The manufacturer was not contacted regarding the failure. Additionally, the front end of the vehicle vibrated severely. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times for the replacement of the intermediate drive shaft on three visits. The brake lines, transmission cooling lines and intermediate steering shaft were covered with rust and were replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 32,800.
