This truck had a steering failure causing a collision and it was a minor front collision. The worse part is Chevrolet denies a problem but the internet is full of complaints. During the collision on the front strangely the curtain airbags is all that deployed leaving driver completely unprotected!!! the steering came back on after. Then I get a notice that the airbag control module is recalled because it may not work or deploy bags wrongfully. That's what happened. The truck has 24000 miles on it and the steering failed in the rain making me swing out almost striking a school bus full of small children. I had it towed to a chevy dealer after having and photographing with a time stamp 6 codes for a module failure. The chevy dealer calls and lies to me and did there are no codes or voltage to the motor and it may be a wire from the accident I told them about. The accident was minor and only required minor repair and a bumper. I think general motors needs a investigation into this and owe me curtain air bags and headliner. This company is irresponsible and defiant in defective moister sensitive due to lack of sealing according to hundreds and hundreds of internet postings. I owe 34,000. 00 on this junk unsafe product and complained and only get jerked around. Abc news has contacted me back for a story as soon as I here back from you.
Driving in the rain and as I turned onto hwy 39 the electric steering failed causing me to swing wide into traffic almost getting me and family killed!!!! there basically is no steering at all when gm truck steering fails! its not even manual steering.
Intermittent electric power steering loss caused accident. Chevrolet denied it. Same problem almost caused a accident again but no there is no electric steering at all and vehicle steering is unable to manually be steered! it was towed to a simpson Chevrolet, garden grove CA. 92643. 714 527 7000. This dealer is even trying not to warranty it!!! I need help here. This is the same truck that deployed the side airbags only at a steering failure involved accident. Same problem but now its dead all the time.
While exiting a parking lot to turn north, the steering failed causing my vehicle to go across onto the median before I stopped the vehicle. The motor shaft of the electrical power steering snapped.

Electric steering failed at highway speeds multiple times during a long trip, when new. The steering, when out, was very hard to steer but did not lock up or cause any sudden truck movements. The dealership had to replace the electric steering on the new truck. No more issues afterwards.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the driveshaft and steering column was repaired twice. The contact stated that the dealer also had to have the motor mounts replaced. The contact stated that the steering failed again and the vehicle could not be turned. The vehicle also had a vibration coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was given two sets of new tires and both sets failed. The failures occurred ever since the vehicle was purchased. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 17,000.
My 2007 crew cab Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was purchased on 11/27/06 and it has approximately 65,000 miles on the odometer as of 12/22/10. The steering is making a clunking noise and jerks when turned to the left while moving in forward or reverse. This same incident occurred at around 20,000 miles in the 2004 Chevrolet silverado that I purchased from the same dealer prior to the purchase of this 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. At the first sign of steering failure with both vehicles, I took the vehicle directly to the dealer. The steering malfunction in the 2004 Chevrolet was fixed free of charge. When I purchased this vehicle (2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500) I was informed by the same dealer that I wanted exactly the same warranty and was told that it had been supplied. I took my vehicle to the dealer as I had done previously. On 12/22/10, I was informed that I would have to bring my truck back at 0830 on the morning of 12/23/10 and that I would be required to pay a CO-pay of $100. I am certainly no mechanic, but if the steering is failing, would it not be a safety hazard to put the driver back on the road in this vehicle?
according to the complaints that I have read on your site, this is a recurring problem. For me, this is second Chevrolet silverado in which this same problem has occurred. I do not remember exactly which parts the dealer replaced in my first vehicle, but the beginning symptoms of this steering malfunction are the same as those that occurred with my 2004 silverado. What frustrates me about this situation is that the failure seems to occur quite frequently in the Chevrolet silverado. Should they not be held to some standard of at least replacing poorly designed steering parts at no charge?.

I own a 2004 Chevrolet silverado and feel that the steering system in these automobiles is a disaster waiting to happen. The steering wheel makes a clunking noise when turning. The noise seems to be most prevalent when driving on bumpy roads at low speeds. Do to the seriousness of a steering failure I feel that this should be recalled and fixed by gm immediately. . I own a 2004 chevy silverado z71 4 wheel drive extended cab pickup. The steering shaft makes a rubbing, grinding sound when turning the wheel left or right. I took the truck to the dealer and they said they thought it was nothing to worry about but probably a bearing on the shaft. The truck was out of warranty and they would not cover it. I feel this is a safety issue as the steering shaft could fail while driving. The internet is full of people with the same complaint and fears. There seems to be no concern from general motors. I feel they should be forced to make good on this widespread defect.
Steering rattle both felt and heard. Returned to dealer 5/18/2006 mileage 18,310. Intermediate steering shaft lube. Problem returned months later. Wrote to gm, they said a new shaft was available but I would have to pay to have it installed. I asked if there was chance of steering failure or extreme tire wear, they said no studies have been done and would not predict if a steering failure would/would not occur.
