Failure Date: 05/02/2025

2 Suspension problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/29/2025

Passenger side upper control arm broke in two about to re-enter i75. Had been on I 75 and was going back on it when handling went wonky on service road. You can see from the rust in the break this stamped part was cracked a while. Vehicle has not hit or run over anything since I have owned it. Had I been on i75 at highway speed it would have been deadly.

4 Suspension problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

I purchased a used 2018 Chevrolet silverado high country (VIN: [xxx] ) on [xxx], with 24,375 miles. On the day of pickup, the truck felt like it was driving over rumble strips. Dimmitt Chevrolet flushed the transmission and used the updated mobil 1 hp lv fluid. This worked temporarily, but the shudder returned. Carmax then sent the truck to burke’s transmission in sarasota, where they replaced the torque converter. However, the shop declined to rebuild the transmission, citing its complexity. I later brought the truck to cox Chevrolet in bradenton. Despite clearly describing the shudder, harsh shifting, and driveline clunk, they told me the behavior was “normal” and refused to investigate further, stating, “we’ll look into it once the unit fails completely. ” the symptoms have worsened. Harsh 1–2, 2–3, and 3–4 shifts are back. Shifting into drive causes a loud clunk and forward lurch. Cold starts cause bucking and sudden stopping. I’ve replaced the tires, bilstein 5100 rear shocks, and front suspension parts, but the problem persists. I signed on to a class action lawsuit against gm over the 8l90 transmission, but my claim was denied. This issue is well-documented and matches reports from many other owners. It affects drivability, safety, and long-term reliability. Gm and its dealers have failed to properly address this known transmission defect. I urge NHTSA to investigate further. 7 Suspension problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/13/2025

Suspension system potentially life threatening. On [xxx] I purchased a 2005 chevy silverado truck from used car dealer in tallassee, al/$6000. Several days after driving home at interstate speeds, I discovered extreme rust on the underside of the truck. The spare tire rim was unusable from rust and the tire hoist was rusted beyond use--I had to cut the tire hoist cable tip with a grinder and let the tire fall to the driveway. At that point, I found an extremely unsafe and dangerous defect to the truck. The top of the right rear shock absorber was not attached to the truck frame. The connector bracket had rusted completely away from the truck frame. I texted pictures and called the dealer and was told the sale was “as is”--not his problem. I asked if he inspected, or even looked at the bottom of the truck—his text reply was “I personally did not do anything other than a walk around and test drive” he later said by text he had been a used car dealer for 32 years and had an excellent reputation. Subsequent research found NHTSA-dot’s 49 cfr section 570. 8 -suspension systems-- where it states “shock absorber mountings, shackles, and u-bolts shall be securely attached. ” I believe the licensed used car dealer failed to properly inspect the used truck and clearly did not identify and report to me, the buyer, hidden potential life threatening deficiencies of the suspension system and other defects that would dramatically reduce the value of the vehicle. At that point the dealer refused to answer his phone or texts. My local mechanic advised me not to use the truck and only drive it (below 45 mph) in light traffic for short drives to keep the truck running and the battery charged. I have owned vehicles for over [xxx] and have never had any problems with any of the vehicles. I am [xxx]. I reported this to the alabama dept of revenue ("aldor" - [xxx]) 8 Apr 25 and received a confirmation of receipt. No response yet-23 Apr 25. Please help. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (f.

8 Suspension problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/09/2025

03/09/2025 purchased 2005 chev Silverado 1500 from tony's trade CO, inc. Owner stated he had been a highly respected licensed used car dealer 34 years. Autocheck had no issues. 1-component: right rear shock absorber--critical suspension part (49 cfr section 570. 8 suspension systems)-mechanic agrees. Upper mounting bracket to frame totally rusted away. Bottom of shock absorber attached--top floating in the air. Shock absorber is untouched and available for inspection. 2-truck was driven at highway speeds several time before unattached shock absorber noticed - found. One trip included a medium load for the truck. 3-free floating shock absorber top is apparent in pictures. I sent the used car dealer a photo of the detached shock absorber top and mount. Will pay for a professional view and statement of the shock absorber if requested by you. Heavy rust under the truck bed/frame will require extensive metal replacement to make a hard connection bracket for attachment. 4-no manufacturer, police, etc inspection. Detached and severely rusted shock absorber top and frame bracket are obvious in pictures. Will get reports if needed. 5-no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem until I tried to remove the spare tire to fix and clean it. Spare hoist was severely rusted and unable to lower--cut hoist cable tip and let drop on floor. That is when I was able to see the detached right rear shock absorber. 6 extra: seller quote: "this is a good truck. I would sell to anyone. Like new tires and does not need one thing mechanical and in excellent condition. " tires range from dot 2622 to dot 1323-not new. Extreme frame rust. I drive truck 35-45 mph twice/week on low traffic highway to keep truck running and battery charged. Reported to al dept of revenue 8 Apr 25--aldor-127348-said I would get response in 24 hours, none yet. I called seller was told truck was sold "as is". Seller will not answer phone or text messages.

9 Suspension problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/04/2025

When the truck was less than 2years and less than 20,000 miles old it developed a clunking noise in the rear suspension. Sounds like 2 heavy pieces of metal softly being knocked together. The dealership inspected it and replaced both rear shocks. The noise was still there. The dealership replaced the left leaf spring assembly. This temporarily eliminated the noise. The noise came back at just under 3 years and 30,000 miles. The dealership inspected, but couldn't find the source of the problem. The noise has only worsened since then, and at a recent visit to the dealership, they could clearly hear the problem. I was told that it is the result of worn cushions between the leaf springs. I'm concerned that the truck may be unsafe. I've been contacted by gm, and at this time they are looking into how to fix it, and who should be responsible for the repair. I can't imagine that mine is the only 2020 silverado with this problem, and think there must be other reports of a similar nature.

The whole underside of the vehicle frame is peeling away the body of the truck is very clean. Truck has 60,000 miles and is garage kept. 20 Suspension problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/14/2024

The sway bar detached from the frame running down the road due to a faulty installation completed by the production line. My wife heard a clunking sound and recognized instability in the vehicle during turns she immediately stopped driving it until it could be evaluated. Apparently during manufacture the mounting holes for the sway bar were threaded too big for the bolts used so they installed helicoil repairs into the frame which failed allowing the sway bar to detach. I have pictures from the dealership showing the failure and chevy is trying to weld a nut into the frame to be able to reattach the assembly at my expense.

21 Suspension problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/26/2024

I was sold a vehicle by a dealership with a completely unsafe frame. The frame is very rotted and has multiple holes and as well as a split open portion on the drivers side that extends down most of the frame. This issue was undisclosed by the dealer. There was also a discovery of rotted suspension components making the vehicle extremely dangerous to myself and others. Another undisclosed issue would be that this vehicles engine does not match the VIN number.

22 Suspension problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I was driving the vehicle but it sounded like it was popping when I would turn and when I shifted gears. As a result, my brakes were not working and I almost hit another vehicle. I took it to the dealership where they claimed they fixed the issue. When I picked it up this past Saturday, within a block of the dealership, the truck began shaking and a rattling noise could be heard. I had to take the truck back to the dealership. The truck is at the dealership where it is supposed to be inspected again and hopefully properly fixed.

25 Suspension problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/30/2024

While driving within the neighborhood, the upper control arm ball joint failed and the wheel folded under. After some research, it appears that this truck purchased new from the dealership where it was upfitted with a suspension leveling accessory as shown in the photo. It should have been included in NHTSA recall 21v-718 as it clearly is premature failure of the oem upper control arm ball joint due to the dealer installed suspension level kit. Vehicle was purchased new at vaden Chevrolet in pooler GA.

27 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/22/2024

My truck is a 2014 with only 53,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2016. (it was still under factory warranty) when I tried to get my truck inspected last month the shop told me the frame had holes and cracks in it, was not safe to drive and needed repaired/replaced. I did some research and found sb 19-na-255 regarding my truck. This issue seems to be a wide spread issue with that truck. I took it to the Chevrolet dealer I bought the truck from (wood Chevrolet in carroltown, PA) to ask about the bulletin. They called their gm rep and he told them there was nothing they (gm or the dealer) could do about it. This is a known safety issue and I believe gm should take care of the repairs. Right now I had a vehicle that is not safe to drive, has very low miles and is not safe to drive.

28 Suspension problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/21/2024

Ball joint broke on front passenger side 2 times at 62 mph. 1st incident occurred [xxx] at 71,699 miles. 2nd incident occurred [xxx] at 135,543 miles. Second incident caused $6,500 body damage & $2500 in towing fees. I told gm the truck was unsafe to drive, which they failed to help. Any other vehicle in my path would have caused a major accident involving injury or death. The ally warranty covers 150k miles. Dealer only covered mechanical repairs, not the body damage or any towing. All work has been serviced & inspected by the dealer: upstate Chevrolet in attica, NY 14011. No warnings or lights appeared. 32 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/08/2024

I have a 2014 chevy silverado that I purchased brand new from the dealer. The truck just hit 100,000 miles and recently had a clunking noise from the rear undercarriage. After having it inspected, it has come to my attention that the frame is rusted and rear crossmembers are rusted out causing the rear shock mount to break, and I'm not sure if the frame is salvageable. After doing some research, I found a recall for my year silverado for the undercoating on the frame(not properly done from the factory) but my VIN is not in the recall. I'm at a loss being the year of the vehicle and mileage on the truck considering it might be undeliverable and unfixable.

33 Suspension problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/07/2024

The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 mph and hauling a small box trailer, the vehicle slid several times. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road temporarily and resumed driving; however, the failure recurred several times. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that towing assistance could be provided for the vehicle but not for the box trailer. The contact decided to continue driving the vehicle to the residence while the manufacturer remained on the phone with the contact. The contact stated that upon test driving the vehicle the following day, the vehicle operated as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was inspected, and the dealer removed the valve body of the transmission per the manufacturers' instructions. The dealer then informed the contact that metal shavings were found in the transmission pan. The dealer replaced the transmission. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the rear end of the vehicle continued to make an abnormal humming sound. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the dealer determined that the rear end of the vehicle needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 mph on a wet road, the vehicle inadvertently slid off the road and drove on the grassy area covered with snow. The contact's wife steered the vehicle and missed a ditch; however, the rear passenger's side of the vehicle and the rear passenger's side tire struck a pole. The air bags did not deploy. The driver did not sustain any injury. The driver exited and inspected the vehicle. The driver was able to continue driving. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

34 Suspension problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/20/2024

I purchased a used 2021 Chevrolet silverado from a dealership 5 months ago. Almost immediately after purchasing the truck, I would hear and feel an intermittent pop that originated from near the floor of the front passenger side. The sound became more frequent and would happen mostly when making sharp turns but also when making softer turns. I took it to the dealership to investigate. They had it for a week and supposedly examined the entire vehicle. They were able to replicate the pop sound when driving it but were unable to diagnose the problem. They claimed that sometimes trucks just make noise and assured me that the vehicle was safe to drive. I asked how they knew it was safe if they didn't know what the problem was and how was I to know that whatever is causing the sound isn't causing internal damage. The service manager again assured me that the certified mechanics looked at every detail of the vehicle and found nothing to be concerned about and sent me on my way. After taking the truck home, I continued normal use of the truck, taking it on 3 long distance trips on the highway. The sound continued as it had before, occurring intermittently when turning. 2 days ago, I was backing out of my driveway. I heard a very loud pop and got out of the vehicle to find that the front passenger wheel had completely broken at the ball joint of the control arm and was lying nearly flat on the ground, held suspended by the brake line and cv boot and other attached components. The truck was towed to the dealership, where it currently is. The service manager told me that the mechanics did everything that they were supposed to have done and that unfortunately this is a mechanical part that can fail and that he has seen this issue in 7-8 other vehicles like mine. If this is a common problem, there should have been a red flag when presented with this issue. If this would have occurred on the highway at a high rate of speed, my family and I could have been killed.

35 Suspension problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/13/2024

Complete structural failure of chassis (frame). Upon inspection on a mechanics lift the frame is cracked in several places and due to the undersized structural components and type of steel resulted in extensive corrosion. All components of vehicle depend on structural integrity of support frame. The frame has been inspected by several mechanics. All suspension components attached to vehicle frame are in serious jeopardy of failure. Several other Chevrolet truck owners have total losses of vehicle value to to undersized structural frame and extensive corrosion. This is a manufacturer's defect, its similar to building a house on a weak foundation.
