36 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/11/2024

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, covered by multiple technical service bulletins regarding issues with premature frame rust due to a manufacturing issue. During the factory warranty period, Chevrolet did not acknowledge or repair the issues noted in the tsbs. A 10 year old truck, with 81k miles on it is no longer safe to operate due to extensive damage to the frame from Chevrolet failing to fulfill their own commitments in resolving this issue. There has been no abuse or failures by myself as the owner that would result in the current unsafe condition. Due to this being an extremely widespread and known issue, this must be further investigated and upgraded to a full recall. Without a full on recall, unsafe vehicles will continue to be utilized on roadways, causing safety concerns to owners, passengers, and others on the roadway. Chevrolet has just refused to repair the damage due to the expiration of the factory warranty period. The vehicle was in possession of Chevrolet several times during the warranty period, but the resolution and repair was not completed. Per the TSB, this was to be completed and Chevrolet acknowledged the issue. Since not all dealerships have the ability or willingness to address this concern, Chevrolet must be put as the responsible party through a recall to rectify this, allowing owners to drive safe vehicles.

37 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

This truck has rust and giant holes in the frame, I'm not even sure if its safe to drive. I see that chevy doesn't want to claim ownership of the manufacturing mistake. I can't even sell this truck because it would never pass a safety inspection. Chevy needs to be held accountable and do a recall to those of us who are stuck with the vehicles and fix their mistake. I don't even think a dealer would be able to accept as a trade in. I see other posts here that trade ins were refused due to the frame damage. Your agency needs to do another or first investigation regarding this safety problem!!!.

46 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/06/2023

During yearly inspection the mechanic noted excessive rust on frame components and warned that something should be done…. I am on my third silverado and frame coating, brake lines and transmission coolant lines have had issues with excessive rust. I bought this new in 2014 and hoped they had addressed these issues… over the previous silverados I have owned. What recourse do I have towards gm. The truck has 50k.

47 Suspension problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/28/2023

I went to dealer for an oil change last week. They told me the left front shock had a minor leak and they would be ordering me a new one. After arriving home I noticed that the passenger side shock was also leaking. On 11/28/23 the truck went to the dealer to get both front shocks replaced. Upon arriving home after the new ones were installed I looked at the shocks and noticed the passenger side was leaking fluid to the point it was puddling in my driveway. The fluid was pissing out from inside the shock. I began taking photos and videos of such. My wife is 22 weeks pregnant and this was in needed stress for her. Not only did the brand new shock fail but put her and my future baby at risk.

49 Suspension problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/26/2023

In August 2023 I was hearing a popping noise coming from my truck. Took it to hare dealership for diagnosis and repair. They had my truck until September 8, 2023. I was told hare service couldn't reproduce the noise, ran multi-point inspection and was informed that everything was fine. Few days later, I returned to dealership and reported still hearing the popping noise. But service mgr. Said they found nothing wrong that wasn't repaired. Approximately 10 weeks later, while my wife was driving to pick up dinner, after stopping at a stop sign, she started moving and all the sudden steering the vehicle was impossible, and the truck collapsed in the middle of the dark road! see photos. I believe the safety risks to my family and other travelers on the roads speaks for themselves in this situation. I went to the scene with my father-in-law, where I saw my wife visibly terrified and shaking! as for the condition of the truck at the scene, see photos. I had the truck towed to my home, then called hare Chevrolet the next morning and my truck was then towed to them. Hare reported that, upper ball joint failed. Multiple damaged components. Recommend replacement of upper control arm, lower control arm, axle shaft, steering gear, rf outer tie rod end, rf brake line, & wire repair for speed sensor. 4 wheel alignment: required with ball joint replacement. [primary]: d11 : multi-point inspection (I), wheels/rims: wheel repair. After waiting 6 weeks for hare to provide a required written estimate detailing the costs of parts, labor, fees and taxes, I finally had my truck towed to another shop a few days ago. Excluding Sep. 8 to Nov 26, 2023, I have not had use of my family vehicle since August 15, 2023!.

Driving 20 mph on paved downtown street when cross arm failed causing wheel to twist 90 degrees causing damage to brakes, drivetrain, abs, and steering. No warning just pop and trying to maintain my lane before able to turn into parking lot. Towed to dealer and diagnosed with control arm failure. They are aware of this issue and now replace control arms stronger rough country control arms and level the truck differently. Dealer is claiming GMC will not cover and they are calling it a suspension issue and out of warranty two months. Truck has 26000 miles on it. Lucky event happened at 20 mph and I was able to maintain control of vehicle.

51 Suspension problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/07/2023

Today while driving , the upper ball joint separated from the control arm, causing the truck to pull hard to the right. I was able to keep from wrecking the truck. While doing research it seems that this is a common occurrence with the silverado trail boss and the sierra at4. I read a safety recall report on these vehicles, 21v-718, after reading this, it's exactly what happened with my truck. Ball joints is rusting and corroded. Vehicle is able to be inspected upon request. If I had been on the freeway traveling, it would have caused a severe single or multiple car accident as I lost control to steer. No symptoms leading up to the situation.

52 Suspension problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

This vehicle has a frame that is rusted far beyond what you would normally expect. The same problem is listed in other complaints here and elsewhere online. The passenger side running board fell off because the frame it was attached to was so badly rusted.

53 Suspension problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

I bought this vehicle last November from shea. When we bought the truck we noticed the check engine light, but was told that we would have to bring it back in for inspection. The last vehicle we bought from shea it had a 30 day return and it would fix any problems. Not so with this time. So, we purchased a platinum warranty which was a little above $2k and we believed would cover these issues. That was not the case. We had a friend of ours who is a gm mechanic look it over and told us that it needed a high pressure fuel pump. So when I brought the vehicle in on January 22nd I told the service person at the desk that we had a platinum warranty and told him that I had a gm technician tell me that it needed a high pressure fuel pump. After sitting for six hours he comes out and tells me that I needed a high pressure fuel pump and tells me it will cost me $1400. 00+ to have it fixed and it would not be covered by my warranty. And then tells me that the work they did today would cost me $150. 00. I told him when I came in what the problem was. I understand that they need to do their own diagnostics, but why didn't they tell me that the part would not be covered by the platinum warranty. We paid $23k for the truck, plus an additional $2k+ for the warranty and now an additional $1,400. 00-$1,500. 00 for the fuel pump. So, yes we are not happy and will give a second thought to ever using shea again. I understand that this memo will not change things, but I want you to understand that prior to today's fiasco I have told friends that I would recommend shea when looking for a vehicle. Now I would not recommend shea to any of our friends. Sorely disappointed! to go along with the previous text, when I purchased the 2015 z71 silverado the key fob fell apart so I purchased two (2) new ones at a cost of $225 each so that I could start my vehicle on cold winter days. So far, that was a waste of money a money also because the check engine light and the high pressure fuel pump.

55 Suspension problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

My 2011 silverado has a very clean body, but the frame is completley rusted out. If you google frame issues on these trucks you will see that many people are having the same issue and gm is doing nothing about it. I think gm should have to buy back these trucks as my truck went from being worth $12000 to being worth nothing.

70 Suspension problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/10/2023

Currently own a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 texas edition z-71. Transmission continues to hard shift / lunge in forward and reverse. The transmission has popped so hard, on multiple occasions that I was convinced that someone had hit me from behind and had to pull over. The downshift is occasionally so hard that it that you jerk forward out of the seat. In October of 2022 the downshift at 15 mph made me lose control of my truck and utility trailer, sliding me into a small tree causing over two thousand dollars in damages. The suspension is also extremely shaky and any rough terrain makes the vehicle uncontrollable even at low speeds. I have almost had 3 additional accidents because of loss of control in rain and snow. The suspension is also noisy when you first drive with a grinding / rubbing sound. Vehicle has been in for service for these issues on more than one occasion and I have been told they cannot find anything wrong. I have had a transmission code in the past that eventually turned off. A quick internet search shows these all to be known issues and Chevrolet refuses to address of repair these major safety issues.
