After about 7,000 miles the treads start to come off in small pieces on the front tires, (1/8" ). The rear tires chunks are coming off in 1/4 ' to 1/2' in the center 3 rows of the treads. This is my 3rd set of tires. All resulting in lose of treads.

My son who is 17 years of age was driving and notice something wrong . We check his tire and notice metal threading coming from the inside area of the tire. We took it to the local dealer for new tires and was told this was a manufacturer defect. This vehicle is not even 5 years old.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The vehicle has bridgestone dueler a/t 693 tires, size p265/70r17. The tires were purchased new when the vehicle had 25,000 miles. The tread began to wear in an unusual manner in the center of all four tires. The contact checked the tire pressure on a regular basis, but the center of all four tires continued to wear unnaturally. Neither the vehicle manufacturer nor the tire manufacturer were notified. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 04t018000 (tires:tread/belt). The dot number and failure mileage were unknown. The current mileage was 42,000.
General tires with 420 tread wear blowing out at less than 20,000 miles, tires seem to be very thin. On 2006 chevy pickup, not abused general ameritrac 245/70/17.
Currently I have the general ameritrac tires on my vehicle ( 245 70r17), I am writing because I am concerned about the tires that it on my 2005 chevy silverado. I have noticed vibrations at speeds over 80 mph (on a rare response to a fire call in personal vehicle). Also the tires have not held up at all I noticed uneven tread wear at 10,000 miles and with rotation and balancing it seems to be worsening, the tire tread currently (31,000 miles) is withering to the point it is unsafe and seems to want to hydroplane very easily ( done this new also). I have others with the ameritracs and some have worn better but seem to have the same hydroplane characteristics. I am having these replaced with a different brand ASAP.

I bought a 06 chevy silverado pickup in June 06. The truck has 1800 miles on it and it has a bad vibration at any speed over 30 mph. I have brought the truck back to the dealer 4 times and each time they rebalance the tires. The last time I was there they let 5 lbs of air out of each tire. They are now telling me that it is "the nature of the beast" and the tires have to get broke it before the vibration will stop. The truck has general ameritrac p245/70/r17 tires on it. I took the truck to a local tire dealer and was told that the tires are out of round and loping causing the vibration in the truck. The dealer keeps giving me the saying they are waiting for the Chevrolet factory rep to come there. I an afraid to drive the truck with this vibration as I am unable to walk and use a wheelchair and I don't want to be broke down someplace with this truck. What can I do to get this problem resolved?.
Haven't had an accident yet.
I have a brand new 2006 chevy silverado pickup and it came with p265/70r/17 goodyear wrangler st tires. At 2700 miles the right rear tire went flat while traveling on a paved road and at 5500 miles the left front tire went flat while traveling on a graveled road. Both tires had cuts in the center of the tires and were very similar. I complained to goodyear and they won't do anything about this unsafe tire.
After traveling about 350 miles on I-95 & I-26 we experienced a blowout on the rear tire. It did 1300. 00 in body damage to our 2000 Silverado 1500 p/u's rear fender. After replacing the tire with the spare we continued to our destination where we replaced all 4 tires with new ones. There was still approx 8000 miles left on the warranty, but we purchased a different brand. We saved the defective tire and sent it to the manufacturer who claimed it was road hazard damage. We did not encounter any road hazard and maintained the correct air pressure and tire rotation schedule.
