My vehicle has a rear window leak. The dealer looked at it and said this is a common problem with the new body styles. Dealer confirmed it is a crack in window seal and window frame. Although there isn’t any immediate safety issues. There may be long term including mold that passengers will breathe in and also the water leaks down window on the interior and creates streaks and hard to see through rear window if not cleaned often. Gm knows about this issue and has released a technical service bulletin (Chevrolet TSB 18-na-383).

After starting my truck, my kids and I entered a few minutes later, we smelled a faint burning smell but seemed to have faded. Driving 50yards away from my home, my rear window (glass on side of sliding window) randomly made the spider web/crack effect all over the glass and had started crumbling off.

On October 29, 2022, I auto-started my 2014 silverado on a chilly morning. I got in the vehicle approximately 5 minutes later and turned on the ignition. As soon as I turned on the ignition I heard what sounded like a gunshot and I smelled electrical burning. I then realized that the passenger side of my back sliding window had shattered. The rear defroster also smelled like an electrical fire. Upon doing research I found that this is a known issue in the 2014-2019 silverado's which I was never notified about. I purchased the vehicle used in March of 2021 from basil Chevrolet in fredonia, NY. There is currently a full recall in canada because of the dangerous issue but not in the united states. I reached out to the dealership and Chevrolet but they refuse to do anything about it. I have yet to have the back window replaced and it is taped up but available for examination.

Today March 25 2022 around 07:20 driving to work, the passenger side stationary panel of a 3 panel sliding window exploded with a loud noise. The window is totally shattered, but stayed in place. Little cubed glass is starting to fall from around the bottom edge. A month ago, I had experienced a crackling arcing sound coming from the defrost on that same panel. I took it into quirk Chevrolet, manchester nh to have it looked at. They stopped the arcing and released the vehicle back to me and fixed under "service bulletin". I am finding many other individuals experiencing this same exploding glass issue. There is a bulletin out concerning this particular model and yr truck for sliding glass window defroster overheating issues. I am hearing that the dealer is not addressing this as an issue and not remedying this under warranty. I have only 28500 miles on the truck.
The rear window defroster melted and started to smoke and then the rear window exploded.

My 2015 silverado was started up remotely to warm up during an icy day. The truck had already been driven a few hours earlier. When I stepped in the truck I heard sizzling. About a minute later I smelled and saw smoke from the passenger rear seat area. I turned the truck off, but when stepping back in after investigating and moving it from the road the passenger side rear window broke. No warning was given for this to happen.
This morning I turned on my rear defrost, and the rear window shattered. There is a memo entitled "global safety field investigations dcs5273 / n192265660". However, when I contacted gm this afternoon (800-630-2438) they had not heard of this memo.

I got something out of the driverside door of my truck and shut the door and the passengerside of the rear sliding window blew out. It was 30 degrees out.
The infotainment screen brightness is set too high, such that turning the brightness setting down enough for the infotainment screen to not be too bright turns the backlighting on the instrument cluster down to where it's almost unreadable. In this specific case I was trying to use apple maps through carplay for navigation in an unfamiliar rural area, where lighting on the roads is almost inexistent besides in towns. During the day it's not too much of an issue, but any time between dusk and dawn one must make a choice between visibility out the windshield and being able to quickly read anything on the instrument cluster. It is my opinion that this issue is enough of a safety hazard to force gm to make changes, but unfortunately isn't the most egregious "feature" of this screen. That title belongs to what happens when you put the vehicle in reverse at night. It seems whoever designed it thought the view of the backup camera on the infotainment screen is the only thing you should be able to see, since it changes the brightness back to its daytime setting. This makes seeing out of the vehicle in any direction where the screen is even slightly in your view almost impossible. It also means you must wait a second or two for your eyes to adjust if you want to, for example, look at the backup camera on the screen then look out the rear window. In my case, even looking out the rear window into a garage with a light on was difficult after looking at the backup camera view. Add to all of this any kind of vision issues like needing prescription glasses or contacts, and your eyes are constantly trying to adjust between being able to see what your next turn might be and being able to read any signage that may be present. Simply put, it seems gm took the idea of making the vehicle a rolling Smart device to be the primary use, even above having the ability to see where you're going safely.
Since new, this vehicle has had two unresolved safety issues. One of which being the failure of a fmvss 111 required system - rear vision camera. The two defects are: 1. Service 4wd warning message and inability to use 4wd in inclement weather. This has caused safety concerns for my wife and I when traveling in the winter. 2. Failure of the fmvss 111 required rear view camera system when in reverse. The display screen goes blank with an error message intermittently when in reverse. not being able to see behind the vehicle while in reverse has raised safety concerns by both my wife and I in numerous parking situations. The dealer (al serra Chevrolet grand blanc mi) has attempted warranty repairs on both issues on 4 service visits: delivery date 9/27/2022 1st repair 1/12/2023 2nd repair 11/27/2023 3rd repair 12/19/2023 4th repair 2/27/2023 gm customer assistance case 9-12089878168 2/27/2024 certified letter to gm notifying of intent to file for lemon law relief, final repair attempt. All 4 repair attempts included the 4wd system failure as well as the rear view camera system failure. Many components have been replaced. Along with many reprograming attempts of both systems. Both problems return after the dealer attempts a repair, and have not been successfully repaired to date. The problems first appeared on 1/12/2023. Due to the camera issue being of such a serious safety hazard, we will not drive the vehicle again until repairs are assured. We cannot risk backing into a pedestrian.

Remoted started truck to defrost windows, driver side backglass made a loud bang sound and shattered.
While sitting in a parking lot with the rear defrost on, the rear window shattered. There were no visible impact marks. My child was covered in small glass shards. I drove home and will be contacting my insurance company shortly.
On July 27, I encountered a failure of the rear vision display system on a 2021 Chevrolet silverado. In short, the system used to display the rearview image went blank, and remained blank, the moment I first shifted the vehicle into reverse. Hence, no rearview image was visible while I was in the process of backing up the vehicle. I believe this may be a noncompliance with fmvss 111 or a closely related safety defect (I worked in safety engineering at general motors and Ford for a combined total of more than 30 years). I made a video to document this failure, and I uploaded it to youtube. It is available at the following url: https://youtu. Be/zhbzwteacbg this vehicle was provided to me as a loaner vehicle while my personal vehicle was being repaired by quality Chevrolet in escondido, California. Shortly after leaving the dealership, I pulled over to the side of the road and paired my cell phone with the vehicle. It took several attempts to successfully accomplish this. I then made a hands-free call and then proceeded to drive home. Within a couple miles, I decided to make a u-turn. Given the size of this vehicle, completing this u-turn required backing up. The moment I placed the transmission in reverse, the center display went blank and consequently no rearview image was displayed. Even after I shifted the transmission back to drive, the center screen (which is also used to display other things like the radio station, time, temperature, etc. ) continued to remain blank. However, the audio continued to function (noted at 1 minute and 15 seconds into the video). I decided to make a video to document the condition prior to turning off the ignition as my experience has been that such malfunctions are likely associated with software errors that can be difficult to track down and replicate. I drove this loaner vehicle several other times before returning it to the dealer. On each occasion, the rearview image displayed when the vehicle was put in reverse.

A/c condenser gave out causing window to fog/ same issue with all gm / tahoe / suburban / escalade . Life safety issue visibility compromised I have a 2015 chevy silverado with only 30k on it. This should be a mandatory recall.
The a/c is known to be defective in a 2015 chevy silverado and mine went out on 03/28/2021. I bought my truck new and maintenanced it well and is garage kept. There is no reason for this failure. This is a safety issue for the windows can fog up in adverse weather and hinder visibility. Chevrolet needs to own up to a baddly designed system.
While waiting to order a morning coffee at a local coffee shop drive thru (stationary), the rear defrost/defogger caused one of the glass panels of the rear windshield/back glass to shatter/explode. There was also smoke & an unmistakable electrical burning smell present at that time. Please refer to gm canada recall n192220470, as I believe this should become a safety recall in the united states of America as well.

Burning smell in the vehicle and all of a sudden the rear window shattered. The vehicle was in motion at the time. There is a known fault with the defroster mechanism that results in a malfunction that causes the window to shatter. Same make model and year are recalled in canada but not the us.
Vehicle was remote started in driveway. Before the 1st cycle ran out and shut off the vehicle I opened the rear door and black smoke came out and could see smoke emitting from behind the headrests of the back seat by the slider rear window. The rear defrost had started on fire. The rear window on driver side spiderwebbed when I opened the door. Temperature outside was 7 degrees with windchill below 0. No recall listed here in us at this time I could find. Recall #192220470 in canada was listed for 2014-2018 trucks.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the windshield wipers made an abnormal sound and failed to operate when activated. There was no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
While vehicle was parked, the temperature in the 30s-40s, I remote started it twice to warm it up. When I went out to load my things in the cab, I opened then closed the back driver side door and the rear glass exploded.
When backing up the truck at night the center screen gets so bright that you cannot see anything from the rearview mirror or side mirrors the backup camera itself is a very poor quality camera at night and there is no option to dim the brightness of the screen or turn off the camera so I can see at the rearview mirror instead.
The electrical wires in my back window got so hot it shattered my back window. Could smell electrical smoke post incident. Rear defrost was in use. There is currently a recall on exact same truck model and year in canada but currently not in the us. This needs to be addressed before someone gets injured.
Cold weather (25-30 degrees?) on 12/24, so remote started truck and began driving (rear defroster auto starts). Heard slight sizzle noise, but couldn't figure out what it was. . . Then wife (riding in back) heard it get worse, then a little smoke, then rear-window on driver side popped/cracked/shattered (truck has a sliding rear window, so 3 sections). Didn't blow out, but is completely shattered. Taped it to keep pieces from blowing apart. Talked to dealer and gm customer care, and they advised of an open customer satisfaction program for this issue, but it only applies to vehicles in certain states (cold weather). . . Including mi, but I'm 1 hour south in northern in. #n192265660-01 is the program number (rear window defroster thermal events - us only _(Mar 25, 2020). The problem also seems to be more common in canada where a full recall is in effect. At this point, however, gm customer care (case # 9-6442774509) says they can't do anything and referred me back to dealer. . . Who I will assume will refer me back to cust care again. I'm waiting on their response. Makes no sense that they will reimburse only for vehicles in certain states. I'm in the same cold climate as michigan and many of the other impacted states. Looking for reimbursement of costs to repair, but for now I'm waiting to make sure someone will pay for it. This is a known issue that gm is refusing to reimburse (even though they are clearly willing in many other states). Any suggestions?.
Rear view camera on my 2019 silverado wt goes in and out when in reverse. It puts several lines which creating a fuzzy view on the screen. The picture on the screen prevents a clear picture of what's going on. When the breaks are applied the image clears up and once the breaks are release the fuzzy image returns. According to the dealership gm is working to fix the problem but has not come up with a solution. After reading several forums several other customers are experiencing the same issue. My kids drive the vehicle and this is major concern.
Display screen goes blank no backup camera. Could last hours.
There has been a recall out on this vehicle for several years now, I just looked it up on safercar. Gov and it says that there is an unresolved recall out on my truck. There originally has been one out on the passenger side air bag. But now I just heard that air bags on 2007 thru 2014 are included in a recall. I would like to know if my truck is included in a recall or not.

When I drive this car on the free way or on a very windy day, a loud air gap is caused by the front driver and passenger window. It hasn't been inspected by the dealer or anything but I believe there could be something wrong with the quality of glass or the seal that hold the glass. I've also driven with the windows lowered on a windy day and saw the edge of the glass bend. I'm worried it's gonna snap or shatter one day. It's been happening since I bought it but I didn't notice until I drove on the free way.
N192220470, a recall supposedly only in canada fully describes the problem. My rear glass exploded when I turned a corner. No objects hit it, no previous damage.
Backup camera only is functional in perfect weather conditions. If it's dark with no light, the camera has resolution similar to a 1950 tube tv. If it's rainy or cloudy, the backup camera is not functional either. There are numerous yellow lines and extremely poor quality picture in many other conditions too. Chevy has not done anything to fix this issue in my truck. The visibility is so bad I hit my trailer hitch on the bumper 7 off of my hitch location. I couldn't see that my trailer was that close to me on the screen.
Rear window leaking, water coming in on rear seat & roof.
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet silverado hd crew. The contact stated that while operating the rear defroster there was an abnormal odor of smoke detected. Upon opening the rear hatch the passenger's side rear sliding window panel exploded. There were no reported injuries. The vehicle was taken to vandevere Chevrolet 490 vernon odom blvd, akron, OH 44320 van (330) 800-0230 where diagnosed the glass needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted who referred contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 127,000. Ap.
I bought my 2012 Chevrolet silverado texas edition on, may 26, 2012, from classic Chevrolet of grapevine, texas. I paid $31,622. 80 for the truck. I feel that a new vehicle sold in America should have an implied warranty attached to it that goes above and beyond express warranties when it comes to the vehicle's safety. After two years as an owner of this vehicle I noticed a stain on my rear carpet. The more I rubbed it the more it spread. I figured that one of my grand children probably spilled something and so I just decided to try to live with it. In late 2019 I noticed that my carpet behind my driver's seat was wet after a heavy rain. So I towel dried it and took a paper receipt from my console and attempted to adjust the header pressure on the rear door by striking the rocker panel striker. This year I took a trip to kansas city, missouri in February. I found myself having to drive under rainy, misting, windshield, freezing and fogging, up. My defroster was no match for it because it never was able to clear my windshield sufficiently. On the way back to texas I left k. C. At 4:00 am. The hazardous weather was still persisting. My blood pressure and heartbeat raced a few times when I tried to move ahead of trucks to avoid the splashing from their wake. In June I discovered pooling of water behind my driver's seat. It was so ridiculous I had to take it to classic. After 3 hours in the service department the service manager returned to me and escorted me to the technician. The tech showed me that the water was coming from an unsealed overlap at my firewall. He explained that the leak's been going on for some time. This area at the top of your fender is where the water is entering and it fills up an area inside your finder and then it leaks through your firewall and runs down your rocker and settles at the back seat well. That reprt cst me $145. 00.
