Chevrolet Silverado 2500 owners have reported 15 problems related to brake sensor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Silverado 2500 based on all problems reported for the Silverado 2500.
This vehicle has abs activating between 3mph and 10mph when applying the brakes. There is no condition warranting the need for abs (e. G. Wet or icy roads) when this happens. There is no codes or dashboard lights for this issue. This issues does increase the stopping distance of the vehicle, especially on dirt roads, or when hauling heavy loads. Gm is aware of this issue and it is caused by rust around the abs sensors. There is a recall (NHTSA campaign number: 05v379000) for vehicles with this issue, but despite matching the make, model, year, geographical location and the very specific symptoms, this vehicle is not included in the recall for some reason. Gm has told me to pay for the repairs and hope that maybe someday the recall will be updated to include my vehicle.

Brake failure on June 21 2017, caused accident same accident on November 17 2017 and again on September 1 2019. I have had the truck in shop to be fixed numerous times. . . Abs sensor in front right wheel was supposedly bad. It did not fix problem bc 3 rd accident happened weeks after. 9/11/19 gm released recall for break failure due to the vacuum booster. My issue is exactly what gm had just announced. Chevy dealer and gm corporate both said there was nothing wrong with brakes but they still give out slowing down intermittently. Why isn't my VIN associated with the most recent recall? because for 3 years no one believed me that the brakes were failing. . I lost months of my warranty and nothing was repaired bc they said they were in working condition and that there was no issues. Also at high speeds the truck shakes and/or vibrates, also told nothing was wrong, I have electrical issue that cause electronic screen to go out, they seen video of it happening but won't replace it unless it happens at dealership when I bring it. This truck has all issues pertaining to recalls but not according to VIN#. The vehicle is not safe to drive. Issue are sporadic and intermittent with no warning. I have received tickets, points, and being sued bc of this . Lost out on months of warranty bc service centers were told not to work on it until gm corp did there investigation which they said nothing is wrong also. . . . Now finally the latest recall for break failure came out on 9/6/19 but my VIN is not under it and must be because the recall is 100%accurate to what I'm experiencing with the brake failure. The pedal gets hard, or goes to floor increasing stopping distance. . . This is unsafe and dangerous on the road. Somethjgn needs to be done.

This is the 5th time my brakes are hanging up and over heating the wheel. Smoking severly. Had problem with abs. System so I unplugged sensors from front wheels. And on the 1st the right passenger side did it again. Doesn't matter if on state hwy or city streets. Always starts when moving. A wobble in steering wheel. Then pulling right or left depending on which wheel is locking.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the abs warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an authorized dealer, who both stated that the abs sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Braking at low speeds affected. When coming to a stop pedal sinks and vehicle rolls forward. I find this as a safety recall for 2001,2002 but not for my 2005 2500hd. Having work done at a repair facility. Rusted abs sensors and rusted wheel hubs. Replacement cost about $700. This is a known defect since 2001 that should have been corrected before 2005.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that when trying to decelerate there was a pulsating feeling in the brakes which took longer for him to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised him that the wheel sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd four wheel drive that is not stopping properly at low speeds. The abs system is letting go at slow speeds causing the brakes to let go. This could be a very serious situation at a crosswalk with children. I reported the problem at the local dealer and they said it was a common occurance due to rust affecting the abs brake sensors. The cost of the sensors was 135. 00 each plus about three hors labour total close to $600. 00. I think this shoud be a recall issue as it is not cuased by wear.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that when the brake was applied, the abs activated, causing the brake pedal to fade. The contact called the dealer who stated that defective brake sensors were the cause of the failure. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint; he was informed that they would call him back and to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000 and the current mileage was approximately 22,000. Updated 12/23/lj updated 01/04/11.
Abs system activates on left front at slow roll. Normal slow stop not safe in traffic. Now happens all the time. I am an automotive tech. At collision restoration in fairfield NJ. . The sensor is removable and nd replaceable . . . If. . . Gm would sell it separately, but they want you to spend $300 for a hub assembly
(that you don't need)to get the sensor.

brake & rotor replacement
37,800 miles
we purchased a brand new 2002 Chevrolet silverado hd 4 x 4 from fitzgerald auto mall. The truck was pampered, no rough off road excursions, even kept it in the garage. With only 37,800 miles we were literally shocked to discover all four rotors not only had significant rust but metal was actually chipping, flaking, and crumbling from the rotors. All four rotors had to be replaced along with the brake pads. The pads had worn but not [repeat not] down to the "wear sensors" and were replaced for safety reasons. The cost for the repair was $1,150. 00. We have other vehicles "none of them manufactured by gm" and never experienced this type of wear or damage to rotors. The only safety recall we were advised of affected the tailgate cables. The tailgate cables prematurely corroded and failed. The national highway traffic safety administration should be alerted as this poses a significant safety risk for anyone who unwittingly experiences this problem. Left undetected these rotors would have failed causing an absolute and sudden loss of braking capacity. If Ford motor company had to accept responsibility for recalling millions of unsafe firestone tires - why hasn't this problem been addressed by gm?.

2002 Chevrolet k2500hd , the anti-lock brakes activate at slow speeds during gentle braking. Same trouble as described in NHTSA campaign # 05v379000 / chevy recall # 05068. I have the same symptoms as described in this document but my dealer and the gm cust. Serv. Line both advise that my truck is not included in the recall. Service manager at local Chevrolet dealership said $230 for the same work as stated in the recall plus $80 for each sensor if they break when being removed which they seem prone to do. Or he said that I could pull the fuse to the abs system, but they could not. Gm customer service contact said they could not help with the break problem but offered a coupon for other service ie> oil change.
Brake failure due to corrosive brake lines. All brake lines need replacement. Other brake components have show problems due to corrosion such as brake calipers - adding to stopping distance - and abs sensors - vehicle would slow to 5 to 10 mph for a second or two prior to stopping - dealer replaced brake lines at my cost - will supply VIN number later if possible.

When applying the brakes when coming to a stop, the antilock brake system activates, causing the vehicle to take much longer to stop, and feel as though it may not stop. The problem became progressively worse and was a safety issue which needed to be corrected. Although this problem is well documented for chevy vehicles (case #05v379000), we did not receive a recall notice. We took the vehicle to a dealer, who confirmed that the VIN was not one of those recalled. I called chevy, who also confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. Because it was a safety hazard which could have resulted in an accident, we had the vehicle fixed. The dealer charged us to correct it, with the same exact solution as in the recall. The antilock brake sensors were removed, cleaned and put back in, correcting the problem. It seems as though the 2002 chevy silverado hd pickup was excluded from the recall, even though the same problem exists as in the other silverado pickups. It is even more of a safety hazard since it is a heavier truck. Chevy needs to recall all of the vehicles that have this same problem, or at least cover the expenses for those who bring it in for service for the same issue as recalled in other vehicles.
: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at low speeds, the abs activated and there was an increased stopping distance without warning. The vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop who determined the abs wheel sensors needed to be replaced. There was a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 11/30/2006 -.
