The 6. 6l v8 lml turbodiesel duramax engine bosch cp4 fuel pump failed. U. S. Diesel fuel does not provide adequate lubrication for the cp4 fuel pump. The lack of lubrication led to internal fuel pump damage and resulted in metal shavings that damaged the pump, the fuel system, and the gm duramax engine as well. There was no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

Truck sends safety lights on dash one day and the next day they go off. Truck is running rough and has subpar fuel mileage driving 55 to 65 miles per hour. Esc light comes on and steering wheel changes sides to drive straight. Information screen goes black and flashes while driving. I have been in contact with GMC and they said I have to report to you before they will do anything. There was a recall for my type of truck for poor fuel consumption but my VIN was not included. I feel my truck has fell through the cracks and is in need of serious repairs. 72k for this truck and now I am having nothing but problem I feel used. . . Please help! thanks , [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The capless fuel filler has failed. The door is stuck halfway open. This is a fire hazard if the truck were in an accident. My son has the same year model truck. Same exact specifications just a different color and hus has also failed. This should be recalled immediately because it's a fire hazard not to mention the emissions of the vehicle. This picture is looking straight down on the filler you can see it is not closed.

The fuel pump has put metal shaving all through my fuel system and it is available for inspection if anyone is interested in taking a look at it. It made my truck die in the middle of the highway. It put me and a lot of others in danger! autonation Chevrolet seen and confirmed and said it was because the cp4 fuel pump isn’t compatible with my truck and that a class action was just granted over this in 5 states. The Chevrolet dealership inspected the component. Only light that came on was change fuel filter and I got it changed just a day or two before it died on me.

On August 5, 2023 I was driving south on i75 in the flint, michigan area with no warning my engine shut down. High pressure fuel pump (diesel truck) imploded and pumped metal shavings through the entire fuel system , fuel rails, and injector system. Vehicle is currently being repaired. Repair consist of, removal of the gas tank and completely clean. Flush and clean the entire fuel system, remove injectors and replace with new. Replace old fuel pump with new.
Cp4 failure, left me stranded and cost me 11k in repairs. 69k miles on truck 6,427. 40$ for the bosh disaster kit. Plus additional fluids, gaskets, ect that are not included. And 3900$ in labor. This cost me little under 11k. I have full invoice at total performance diesel at 300 west robles Ave, santa rosa. This really affects my life. And it’s a common thing for the cp4 pump. 7,500$ deposit and 2,698. 38$ was my final payment.
The system that failed was the cp4. 2. The cp4 is a defect that has failed; in the failure it has been ground down and it pushed metal shavings through the fuel system and it has also clogged the injectors. The failure of this system left me in a hazardous position in the middle of the highway. I could not turn or break because there was no power to my vehicle because it was not getting any fuel.
2024 Chevrolet 2500 hd purchased new. Delivered with missing capless fuel adapter. Pointed out missing capless adapter defect to Chevrolet dealer. Dealer refused to correct defect. When the vehicle ran out of fuel on busy roadway a large quanity of fuel splashed on the owner, the vehicle and the road creating the potential risk of serious fire, injury and environmental hazard. Owner had to purchase the capless adapter from the dealer service department when #1 it should have been included with vehicle purchase #2 dealer should have corrected this serious safety issue when customer brought it to their attention.
Cp4 pump failed sending metal through out fuel system. Pump, fuel system flushed, injectors all need replaced. Truck stalled in motion. Thankfully I was able to safely pull over without accident occuring.

When transiting between airport and home in very remote area in subzero temps the def warning system suddenly came on limiting vehicle speed progressively. No services were available both at this time of day and in this very remote area. There needs to be some way to override this system in the case of potential life and death. There were no warnings that this system was going to activate, it simply came on. The system had plenty of fluid but it appears the def heater failed. A vehicle should have an override for life and safety matters. Vehicle is going to a diesel mechanic for service now.
Had to replace fuel pump at 60000 miles and had to have aftermarket replacement because dealership has been on back order for months. It was fine when I drove it last then 4 hours later won’t start.
Driving on the interstate the truck starting. Message center displayed a fuel sys warning. The messages changed warning of speed limitations. The speed allowed wa# reduced every few miles. Eventually the engine would not run nor would it restart.

I was driving home from work on a busy road that had road construction and my truck without warning just died as if it ran out of fuel. I had it diagnosed and it’s the mp4 injection pump that went bad. Very common in this year it’s a minimum of$9500. To replace the entire fuel system. It could have caused me to have an accident. And gm is aware of the injection pumps going bad. The mp4 pumps are designed for vehicles in european countries not the USA. Ford and Dodge have class action lawsuits against them for this faulty system.
I purchased 2016 Chevrolet 2500 hd from the dealership. The truck I bought had the cp4 high-pressure fuel injection pump, which comes standard in all gm-manufactured 2011-2016 6. 6l duramax diesel vehicles such as the chevy silverado and GMC sierra, and it is incompatible with u. S. Diesel fuel. The pump was originally designed for use in europe, where the diesel fuel is "dirtier," or more lubricious, than that of the u. S. Because of the heightened pressure that the cp4 exerts in order to increase fuel efficiency, it causes the pump to disintegrate on itself, as the pump's internal metal parts rub against one another generating friction such that metal shavings wear off and are dispersed throughout the high-pressure fuel injection system. This process begins from the very first crank of the duramax engine. Once these metal shards have sufficiently contaminated the high-pressure fuel injection system, the cp4 fuel pump will suddenly and catastrophically fail — oftentimes while the vehicle is in motion — and become unable to restart. I’m now looking at a $11,000 repair bill. Gm knowingly sold a truck with defective parts.
July 2022 dpf filter was throwing check engine light. Took to dealer to get diagnosed, part was ordered and the dpf was replaced August 19th 2022. Started to get headaches in vehicle while driving it. Oct 9th ended up in hospital after driving vehicle and was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning. Experienced symptoms of losing consciousness, worst headache I've ever had, nausea for 5 hours, loss of feeling in body and seizing of body. Took truck to dealer to get inspected twice and nothing was found to be wrong with it. Nov 10th took truck on another road trip and was having similar symptoms as before however had more chest pain this time so went back to hospital. Took truck back to dealer to have inspected again and was told that it was fine. Nov 18th took truck on another road trip and within 20 mins of driving had another horrible headache. Pulled over and needed to get air and ended up driving truck 4 hours home with windows and sunroof open to avoid getting carbon monoxide poisoning again. I have been ill since August and that is due to diesel and carbon monoxide poisoning every single time I drive the vehicle which is daily. The truck has been now at the dealership for 70 days without any update or improvement in the case.

Fuel pump failure while driving highway speed 70mph pulling a trailer. Engine light came on and engine went to limp mode for a few seconds then completely shut down without warning while still going at least 60. Lost power steering and power brakes. Service center confirmed the code for "low fuel rail pressure" and did the repair. I have retained the cp4 pump for analysis. I was very lucky to not crash my truck.
I was traveling east bound on i26 when the bosch fuel pump exploded and sent metal shavings throughout the fuel system. It's the same pump gm has settled a class action lawsuit when I spoke to the adjuster I was told. My truck wasn't included but yet it has the bosch fuel pump the lawsuit is for cost me 10000 to repair. I have repair bill. And then I was in a accident and the air bag curtain deployed but the passenger side and driver side did not I think there's a recall on the also.

While I was pulling my trailer up a grade on my 2014 chevy Silverado 2500hd diesel truck, the fuel pump had catastrophic failure resulting in total loss of power. I had to unsafely maneuver to the shoulder of the 10 freeway west near cabazon, CA and exit the truck near high speed traffic. I was lucky to make it to the shoulder without getting run over by the trucks in the slow lane. Had to wait hours for a tow and now have a roughly $10k repair bill. This is a known issue with the bosch cp4 fuel pumps that Ford and gm refuse to address. Ram/stellantis recalled their diesel trucks for 2019 and 2020 using this fuel pump. Dealer has confirmed total failure of the bosch cp4 high pressure fuel pump as the reason for total loss of power. No warning signs whatsoever, just immediate loss of power while traveling 55 mph.
Def tank heater short causes wiring harness to melt and fault on diesel trucks, enabling limp mode. Limp mode is dangerous when hauling trailers over long distances. Faulty part is on 6 month backorder. No reparations from gm.
Service def message in truck that will soon result in reduced speed. Local and purchasing dealers both stated a new def tank is needed. A tank is not available and is on back order.
Fuel pump cracked under normal wear and tear under 60,000 miles leaving me stranded for a week and costing $1600 to replace. Transmission is very unresponsive and soupy, sometimes it kicks in late, other times not at all. Ive read this is a known issue with my vehicle.
My 2020 silverado hd truck requires a replacement wiring harness and def tank and is basically inoperable. This is a known issue for gm and spans multiple model years. Gm continued to produce throughout multiple model years knowing that owners may be stranded and unable to use these vehicles because of the defective parts. Hardships for owners would include loss of income and exposure to various dangerous conditions. The def tank has a heater system that can get exposed to the def fluid because of a poor design and poor manufacturing standards resulting in short circuit. Gm will replace the wiring harness and combination tank/heater assembly under warranty. The parts are supposedly on national back order, yet gm continues to manufacture and ship new 2022 models with the required parts needed for repairs. Gm will not provide alternate transportation. Supposedly in excess of ten thousand trucks are affected. Warm climate owners and warm temperatures may affect this issue positively. Gm has no policy for a timely response to this issue. Trucks will become unsafe to operate when the electronic controls limit the truck speed to 5 mph or less. An operator may become stranded and exposed to dangerous highway conditions if stranded with this issue.
The def heater/tank shorted out. The def system has thrown a code 3 times in the little over a year I’ve owned the truck. This final time I was told that the tank needs to be replaced. The truck has now been in the shop for 2 months and there is still no ship date on the replacement tank. The tanks are on a national back order. From what I understand there are about 9,000 people waiting for this def tank countrywide. I now have a $60k work truck that I am paying for but cannot use with no reasonable end in sight.
Diesel exhaust poor quality warning false alarmed and began restricting vehicle speed thus limiting range the vehicle can travel to less than 250 miles and at speeds significantly lower than posted speed limits. Potentially leaving a motorist stranded or vehcile incapacitated when traveling distances greater than 250 miles from residence. 1st warning reduces speed to 65mph after 100 miles 2nd warning reduces speed to 55mph after 75 miles 3rd warning reduces speed to 4 mph after 75 miles the warning light has appeared on the vehicle on 3 separate occassions and never due to def being expired or old. On all three occasions vehicle was taken to local Chevrolet service department for repairs. First incident January 10th 2022 replaced 2 thermastats, second incident February 9th 2022 added fresh fuel, third incident April 1st 2022 replaced secondary nox sensor. My safety is at risk if I were to use the vehicle to travel long distances, use the vehicle for towing or attempt to travel on the interstate. No assurances have been made by Chevrolet that repairs have truely fixed the issue as it continues to recur and each time I am being charged by dealership for different repairs. The issue has been reported to Chevrolet customer care whom have been difficult to communicate with, only agreed to re-imburse $41 of the over $2000 in repairs, and do not seem to care about my safety concerns.
Was driving the truck doing 65 on the highway and the cp4 ruined the whole fuel system. That includes the fuel rails injectors and pump! ended up costing me around $8,000 I believe!.

Fuel pump fuse socket has melted in addition to fuse being blown. Fuel pump had been replaced twice with oem fuel pump. Entire fuse box must be replaced. Occasionally, a no start condition can be traced to fuse contacts losing conductivity which can be resolved by removing them reinstalling fuse. Has potential of causing electrical fire.

Starting smelling gas inside of the cab, at first thought it was non-issue, but the smell persisted. Several days passed, and when I went to warm up my truck in the morning smelled a strong gas odor, and when I looked under the engine - there was a pool of gas, and gas was leaking. Took it in to the dealership (thinking it was a simple loose filter line) but they now say that it is more than that. Not sure if this has been a re-occurring issue with these new trucks, but it could have been a very dangerous situation.
Cp4 failure, caused metal fragments to go throughout fuel system and tank. Entire fuel system had to be replaced and tank cleaned out. Cp4 failed in the middle of my drive home, stalling the truck in the middle of an intersection. Luckily had enough momentum to roll and pull over to the side of the road.
The fuel injection pump malfunctioned causing the truck to shut down going down the highway. It was taken to a professional and was confirmed to be an issue with these vehicles. There was no warnings at all. The cost to repair was $8000. 00.
Metal shavings in my fuel system.
Prior to 04/25/21 and 08/25/21 I was traveling 60mph on I-205 in the fast lane when my truck went into limp mode. I nearly caused an accident because the truck started shaking, all check engine lights illuminated, and it was challenging to navigate to the right lane and off the highway. This happened on two separate occasions. Gm sent a letter dated August 2021 that my truck, "equipped with a 6. 6l diesel engine, may have a condition that could cause the engine glow plugs to fail. " the letter goes on to say that gm will cover this issue "within 15 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge. " gm charged me for the repair. The issue is the language in the letter and the word "condition". My interpretation is the "condition" that caused the glow plug to fail is what should be warranted. Nowhere in the gm's letter does is state the glow plugs may fail and we will only warranty glow plugs. What caused the glow plug(s) to fail was the electrical connector. The electrical connector is what caused the glow plug to fail. The glow plug by itself was not the "condition" that caused it to fail, the "condition" was a faulty electrical connector. Gm must be held accountable to cover this safety defect. I have attached all documents pertaining to this incident. Please advise.

Poor quality exhaust fluid unable to drive over 55mph.
Gas smell while driving. Not reported.
My vehicle is less than 1 year old with about 11500 miles. My service exaust system warning light illuminated and provided a warning that my speed would be reduced in a set amount of miles. After adding additional def fluid to determine if that was the issue my car the car returned an error of service def system. This then lowered the amount of driving mileage until my car would be forced to a reduced speed. This occurred while operating the vehicle and may have resulted in damage to my vehicle or other motorist when traveling on an expressway. The dealer explained that they had other cars in for the same issue and it took over a month to get the parts in for repair. Additionally gm has provided no guidance or warning regarding the issue.
My abs speed sensor got sheared by back of my front drivers side tire in which I have seen on multiple sights a defect that was deemed a recall for being poorly set up on the assembly line. Secondly, ive spent thousands and looking online for a vary serious issue ive been having with my vehicle due to intermediate stalling, backfiring, and vehicle dieing due to what has finally been found to be the infamous crankshaft sensor. Replaced my computer, all 02 sensors, egr valve exc. . . Than upon looking and researching, I find it was a major one on recall as well for failing all the time. I just feel if these are factory errors and been on the recall, and my woman who travels with me that is paralyzed due to an accident, I should be entitiled to the recalls giving they were known flaws on the asssembly line and a danger to others. When the vehicle stalls out, it starts choking, backfiring, and bucking and wants to lock up and loose control. Not cool. Ive been chasing this problem spending thousands in parts and repairs to make this truck safe for work and feel if there has been recalls for all this, would be nice to reap something out of my investment in this truck.
