Steering Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 2500 - part 2

While driving, breaks "stick" causing the to get so hot the smoke and smell like they are burning. The truck pulls and shakes so aggressively you can barely steer it. I have reached out to the dealership and was told there is nothing wrong. Initially, my husband thought I was crazy because he wasnt with me, but yesterday he was driving and thought we had a completely flat tire, and could barely keep the truck on the road.

At approximately 9,700 miles the steering in my 2016 2500hd Chevrolet sliverado ltz suddenly had 3-4 inches of play in the steering while driving. This made the truck difficult to control. The dealer was helpful and replaced the steering box at no cost. The truck now has 51,000 miles on it and it has play in the steering gear box again. The dealer said they already put a steering box in the truck and offered to "help" by only charging me 1,000 dollars for another new steering box, due to the excessive play it has again. I have several concerns, first and foremost is the fact the truck is dangerous to drive especially at higher speeds. Secondly, the speed at which the play in the steering wheel occurs. In my case, both events happened while driving and the steering went from normal to problematic instantly. I am beyond understanding why gm hasn't put out a recall on this issue. You should always be able to steer and stop you vehicle. My other concerns involve putting a third gear box in the truck at a cost of a 1,000 dollars with no guarantee the third one won't do the same thing in another 9,700 to 41,000 miles. It would be seriously nice to know, when driving down the road at the posted 60 mph speed limit, your truck doesn't decide to all the sudden wonder over into the oncoming traffic, as mine did. I would appreciate it if someone would help those of us in this position. Gm obviously has a problem they don't seem to be addressing.

After owning the brand new truck for less than 24 hours (approximately 170 miles on the odometer of the vehicle), I was driving in a straight line on a 2 lane highway at approx. 50-55mph. My foot was lightly on the accelerator, maintaining speed, as I had just passed through a traffic circle about a mile prior, and was in a small line of "traffic" travelling on the road. The rear wheels began to lightly shake (it felt similar to driving on rumble strips) for approximately 3-5 seconds, then several warning lights on the dash lit up and the truck violently "jerked" then pulled and drifted onto the right side of the road, onto the shoulder. The truck then sputtered and stalled. I did not attempt to restart or move the vehicle, instead worked with the dealership to obtain a tow truck.

Duramax 2500hd silverado lt steering/brake issue when rear tires go below tpms threshold of 56 psi per tire and illuminate a warning light. The symptoms were while driving in forward direction a feeling of bad brakes/warped rotor/missing lug nuts with a continual increase of shaking past 25mph up to 65mph at which point it felt completely unsafe. Other symptoms were noticeably worse while braking the steering wheel became almost unholdable and shaking to an extreme. Brakes, rotors and associated hardware have been checked and are in good condition. The truck only has 72k miles on it. After stopping at a shop and putting air back in the tires back to "within tolerance up to 65 psi per tire. The truck drives normally as it should without shake or wobble. It currently has non factory tires of brand: toyo a/t open country. Size: lt265/70/r17.

While driving the truck was difficult to control. It wandered while the steering wheel was straight and when you attempted to bring the truck back to center, it would over correct. This was more difficult when towing a fifth wheel RV. It was a constant challenge to keep the truck and trailer in my lane.

Sloppy loose steering. Purchased new in 2016, with less than 5k miles noticed steering was getting loose. Now with 76k miles, truck has been in the shop 6 times for this issue. Twice was blown off and nothing done to correct issue. At 66k they replaced the steering box. Once again with another 10k miles the problem has come back. Everyone knows the bs the dealership gives you once the warranty is out. There needs to be a recall, driving while pulling a trailer makes issue much worse. Also on a windy day the problem is much worse and can cause a wreck. The dealership has performed the stb two or three times, it's only a temp fix. Time for gm recall.

At highway speeds of 55-80mph the vehicle has a constant vibration in the steering wheel. This has been a problem since purchased brand new in July '20. At 1,350 miles, in August '20, I had the tires rotated and balanced, nothing changed. At 5,700 miles, in January '21, I had the tires rotated and balanced again, nothing changed. I found that gm has a TSB out but it is not a recall to fix the issue or replace the bad tires. See gm TSB #19-na-240.

The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under warranty and that the repair was not covered under warranty. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

The contact who is a certified mechanic stated that the steering wheel lash adjuster for the power steering gear box bolts loosened. The contact repaired the vehicle by replacing the steering gearbox. The contact referenced technical service bulletin, 18-na-280, as a possible fix for the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nearest dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

Very loose(extreme play) steering. Steering has at least 3 inches of play. When going around curves you have to steer the play until the looseness(play) in the steering catches. This is not safe. Please advise. 55,000 miles. When driving straight, the steering wheel can be moved back and forth a considerable amount without out having any effect on the actual turning of the vehicle. This issue is constant. It is always happening if the vehicle is on. Please advise ASAP.

Steering wheel was very loose took it in to dealership and they said my steering gearbox is going out waiting on part difficult to keep truck on roadway it does it on highway 64 going 70, or on back roads running 35 there is so much play its very hard to keep in control. Truck only has 40000 miles seen many many other people having to do the same thing more than once in a 10000 mile time frame this issue needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt.

This car has broken down multiple times.

At around 27900 miles all of a sudden the steering wheel has 3 to 4 inches of free play. It is sloppy at all speeds, it is was hard to maintain the lane especially at highway speeds while going over a bridge deck where the blacktop meets the concrete, the truck would jerk to the right or left. I called my dealership bonner Chevrolet in kingston PA. I was able to drop it off and told them my problem and that was a service bulletin pit5501c for it. They put adhesive on the bolt for the steering box. Now less than 3000 miles the steering is sloppy again. How many more complaints does there have to be to have the gear box replaced? does someone have to get killed or seriously injured?.

The vehicle always pulls to the right. After two inspections and alignment checks by the gm dealer they stated that it is a soft wear problem that they have no fix for. It take considerable effect to keep the vehicle on the roadway. Also their is an issue with the steering system. The steering wheel can be pulled out of the drivers hand if a pot hole is encountered. There has also been two situation when hard braking was required the vehicled pulls hard to the left.

Severe shake when braking at high speeds, fuel tank failed (vehicle was spewing diesel) - it took 3 months to get a new tank, transfer case has failed multiple times. We have been having these problems since the day we picked up the truck. I have service records showing all the repairs. Gm is aware of the problems but claim 'there is nothing they can do but wait for a fix'.

The contact stated that while driving down the road, the steering wheel become loose, it would drift to the left and it required the contact to turn the steering 4 to 6 inches back before he could drive normal. No warning indicator light illuminated. The contact stated that some time failure does not correct. The vehicle was taken to m k smith Chevrolet dealer, (12845 central Ave, chino , CA 91710, (909) 743-5697) where it was diagnosed that a not inside the steering box become loose and needed to be replaced to prevent the nut from becoming more loose. The vehicle was in the processes of been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 19,614. Aw.

The contact stated that the traction control warning light illuminated for approximately two seconds and there was a resistance in the steering wheel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted or made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 7533. Ah.

My dashboard is completely broken by the passenger air bag also completely broken by the drivers cluster exposing wires and other mechanical stuff.

2-4� play intermittently and unexpectedly, truck immediately goes to the left or to the right at speeds 30 mph up to 65mph. This happen down a highway and on roadways which at 30 mph the truck veered left into the other lane with another car coming towards me, car swerved to miss me preventing a head on head collusion. Truck has 35,500 miles on it. There are several complaints online to this exact problem. I do hope a recall or investigation happens prior to someone having to dye because of this issue.

While making a slow speed right turn, 5 mph, after stopping at a busy city street intersection, the power steering turned off and I nearly struck another car coming from the opposite direction because I was unable to turn my vehicle out of the way even when I used all my strength to turn. I have experienced this problem intermittently, always while attempting a right turn at slow speeds. It has happened mostly on city streets and while attempting to make a tight, right turn into parking stalls. The problem was reported to my local Chevrolet dealer but, they were unable to replicate the problem and stated they could not fix it for that reason in June 2019. I returned the truck to the dealership today, 7/1/2019, for another attempt to repair. Waiting for a resolution. Very sloppy steering about 3 to 4 inches in turning steering wheel to make correction in direction of truck to keep in center of road when traveling from 20 to 70 mph.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 9-5091926728. The failure mileage was 45,000.

While driving down interstate steering became very loose and hard to control. Steering had 2-3� slop and made very difficult to control. Problem noticeable at speeds above 30mph. Looked into issue and found oil leaking out of steering box adjustment screw. Found adjustment screw had backed out of housing causing excessive backlash in steering box and oil leak. Retorqued screw.

I was driving south on us hwy 43 at 63 mph and my power steering went out resulting in my truck leaving the road and crashing into the trees on the northbound right of way I know that the previous year trucks have a recall on the electronic steering system but there are no recalls on my truck as of yet on the power assisted steering I was lucky please help keep anyone else from getting hurt from this faulty system.

I got into an accident with my 2005 chevy silverado by rear ending some one at a stop sign. I pulled up behind the vehicle and stopped to wait for them to go the it was my turn she didn't look well enough and had to hit her breaks again and so then did I but my truck did not stop in time because the breaking system delayed.

Steering wheel develops 3 to 4 inches of sloppiness or lash. Lash will change according to speed. Under 25 mph no lash. But at higher speeds lash develops. Hard to keep vehicle in center of lane. Especially when driving mountain highways with curves.

There is 2-4 inches of play/slack in the steering wheel. All ball joints and steering components are fine. Very dangerous and difficult to drive. 26,000 miles on the truck. Thanks.

Loose steering, or just sloppy steering. Several inches each direction with the steering wheel to keep the truck going straight down the road. Like driving a fifties model car. My 2012 model the steering would completely go out, this one keeps getting loose. Sounds like many other owners are having same issue. Going back into the shop. Second attempt for repair. Also this high dollar truck has a sound system that on am radio sounds like the speakers are busted.

Just noticed there was play in the steering. The steering wheel can move 2-3 inches without response. This causes over correction when driving causing the vehicle to track out of its lane. Truck has 11,0000 miles.

Steering is getting looser and looser when driving with only 59,000 miles on truck. Also steering gear box leaking and dealer said nothing they can do and charged me.
