1 Wiring problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/27/2024

Dash warning: check engine light, "engine power is reduced!" and traction control. Code reader results: p2138 (app) accelerator pedal position sensors - not plausible. Replaced with new oem part(s) - app, electrical throttle body and m15 fuse - which did not fix issues and now due to safety concerns (further damage to vehicle and personal preservation) will be towing to dealership for diagnosis. Believe to be a known wiring issues most likely due to water exposure/ short in connectors. - see ip, ecm/pcm and possible false activation to the app circuit. This should be a recall due to the severity of mechanical issues of the malfunctioning system.

4 Wiring problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/29/2018

Diesel l5p 2017-current. When having the engine block heater plugged in, I have seen multiple trucks burn down from having a short somewhere. I have also seen the cord for the engine block heater rub against the wiring harness and rub the insulation off exposing the bare wire. I believe when this happens, an electrical arch jumps from the wire to ground a starting a fire. Please investigate engine block heater cord and it rubbing against sharp edges exposing bare wire.

5 Wiring problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/06/2015

Update of NHTSA id number: 10809089. The stabilitrak and reduced engine power has increased to the following obd codes: p0010, p0122, p0202, p0233, p0335, p0455, p0340, p1682, p2089 as well. At this point there doesn't appear to be anything left on the vehicle that does work. Since the recalls and technical bulletins all appear to have been "completed" for this vehicle I guess I can look forward to repeating the same problematic repairs again and again for the remainder of the time that I own this vehicle which do not appear to have resolved but merely band aided away until they reappear. Even the drivers door switches all had to be replaced which tells me that this is related to an electrical problem and with so many complaints the matter had forced consumers to pay for repairs that were designed to fail without regard to the consumers safety nor financial burdens. It appears that the electrical issues which most are directly linked to the defective engine wiring harness and grounding issues as many technicians are reporting. At this point the truck needs to be totaled.

7 Wiring problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

A warning message comes on the dash telling the driver there is a issue with the trailer brakes, or wiring system. The trailer brakes become inoperable when this comes on. We have contacted gm with the issue, both at the dealer level and at the corporate level; and they insist it is a problem with our trailers. The same trailers are used with older Chevrolet trucks without incident. We have also been informed by gm that the 2015 Silverado 2500's are equipped with a more sensitive trailering system. When the connection becomes wet during inclement weather, or the truck hits a bump; and the connector loses contact momentarily the message will illuminate. Resulting in the loss of trailer brakes. This is a serious safety issue.

8 Wiring problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Several of my exhaust manifold bolt heads broke off even though they have never been removed causing hot exhaust to leak out igniting some electrical wiring. My mechanic told me this is a very common problem with gm v8's.

9 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/04/2012

A/c blower motor control module and wiring harness have failed 3 times. Fan speed 5 just stopped working and 1-4 still worked then 1-4 stopped working. I noticed a burning smell and discovered the wiring harness connection was melted. Oe was replaced with aftermarket parts which also failed . Replaced with aftermarket parts again . I was told by an a/c repairman that the wiring and harness were just a bad design and the last one I replaced would most likely fail also. There are many cases online of the same problem. I was parked when it failed the 1st time and I was driving when it failed the 2nd time and parked the 3rd time.

11 Wiring problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/05/2010

Heater fan wiring harness overheats burns thru at connector between resistor and harness. Several wires in connector -the lead for full power to motor ( high speed setting) is supplied by 40 amp fuse. Wire is approx 16 gage with terminal connections subjected to long duty cycle with high amp load. Wire harness overheated causing fire in vehicle in oct 2005 ( 7,657 miles). Repaired under warranty. Repeat failure in Aug 2010 ( 24,615 miles) on 2nd failure dealer stated happens all the time so he had parts dept keep ample supply of resistors and harnesses in inventory. Refused to repair under warranty. 2nd repair done by vehicle owner. Part numbers used in 1st repair by dealership were; connector 88953358 and resistor 89018596. 2nd repair by vehicle owner used delco parts #s - connector del15-81086, and resistor del pt2485. On 2nd repeat failure the new connector appeared more robust in design in area of contact patch between harness and resistor. Terminal interface seemed improved.

Wiring harness fire occurred in a 2006 Chevrolet silverado. Fire is being further investigated.

15 Wiring problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

2007 chevy Silverado 2500hd. Smelt burning plastic from time to time and blamed it on outside fumes. August 2009 heater blower fan only worked on certain settings for a couple of days and finally totally failed. Looked up problem on internet and found that the blower resistor had failed which seemed to be a quite common problem. I located the problem myself and found the resistor and the wiring harness had melted together and the wires had melted the plastic off about 1 1/2" from the harness. From other research on the internet I found that one truck actually caught fire. I explained to chevy customer service my safety concerns and my disgust as to why this problem is not a recall. I don't believe that they are interested in resolving the problem. Could you please look into the matter some more and call electricalconnection. Com for more info. They sell the replacement part in a kit for the diyer and from what they tell me it is a common defect with gm since 1999 and they sell quite alot of their kits to people who's vehicles are out of warranty.

16 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/08/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact used the lighter installed in the vehicle to light a cigarette. Minutes later, he noticed blue smoke emanating from the instrument control cluster. Upon further inspection, he noticed that the wiring in the fuse box melted. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness and fuse box needed to be replaced at the cost of over $2,500. The vehicle has not been repaired. He is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure and current mileages were 64,000.

17 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

2005 chevy 2500 diesel truck has a fuel injector problem caused by a short in the electrical wiring due to fraying of the wire bundle. The consumer stated the vehicle developed a loud knock in the engine during warm-up and while driving. The knock was intermittent. The consumer stated if fraying on the outside of the wire bundle harness was evident it could be re-wrapped and re-routed. It currently is attached to a very sharp post on the engine manifold with a nylon pull tie. As the motor runs, the wire rubs against a sharp edge of the post and frays which can cause a short and make the fuel injector misfire.

18 Wiring problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

Wiring to the blower motor is getting to hot and has melted the plug connector. Blower will work off and on. Seen this complaint in many forums. Something needs to be done to correct this problem before it results in a fire.

19 Wiring problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/14/2007

During a routine morning commute, I noticed the check engine light had illuminated. Immediately following the malfunction, I noticed a severe decrease in engine power and the engine started to vibrate and mis-fire heavily. I was in heavy traffic and had to pull off of the road to avoid a potential accident situation. I then shut the truck off, and re-started the vehicle to possibly re-set the light. The engine started and seemed to run smoothly again, but the light stayed illuminated. It was 7am, so I decided to very slowly drive to the dealership where I had purchased the truck. The technician performed a diagnosis, and found a hard code of p2146 insulate ficm. I was then told that the main fuel injector system wiring harness had chaffed on a factory installed bracket and that it would need to be replaced. I was then told that they did not have the parts in stock, and that I would have to wait for one week to have the parts replaced. In the meantime, the technician stated that he had "insulated" the harness, and that the light was out. He stated that I should be able to drive the truck without any issues, but if the check engine light comes on again and I also receive a "low power" message on the annunciator panel in the dashboard, that I must park the truck and get a rental vehicle until the parts arrive and repairs can be made. The technician stated that this would cause four of the eight cylinders to shut down and cause a lean engine fuel condition which could result in engine failure. As of yet, parts to be replaced within one weeks time.
