2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd. Consumer states gauges stopped working and the bolts on the manifold were defective.
The instrument panel(speedometer, fuel gauge, etc. ) is completely inoperable. I've read a ton forums that many owners are having or were(since paid out-of-pocket) having the same problem. Gm/Chevrolet has reported that the cost for repair is $500. Let me also add, this problem isn't in just my particular model and year, but newer models as well. This is huge safety problem being the operator of the vehicle doesn't know the speed of his vehicle.

Instrument panel cluster has started providing inaccurate readings including irratic speed display. Problem started at 86,000 miles. Chevrolet will not cover replacement as over the mileage limit.

I own a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd truck. I have only 25,000 miles on this car. The speedometer has suddenly become erratic and does not display the correct speed of the vehicle. When I am traveling at very low speed (close to standing still) it displays 10 to 15 mph. At higher speeds it displays speeds that are much greater than the speed that the vehicle is really traveling at.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact was driving 45 mph and applied the brakes but the vehicle failed to immediately decelerate, increasing stopping distance and time. The abs warning light was illuminated sporadically prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the instrument panel was replaced. The brake line was also repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 26,000 and the current mileage was 41,500.

2004 chevy silverado - the speedometer is not showing the correct speed. My son who just received his permit was driving with me in the passenger seat when we were pulled over by a policeman for doing 20 miles over the speed limit. I was so surprised, I constantly check his speed on a regular basis when he is driving and would never have allowed this to occur. After a nasty ticket. I went home and researched that there is a recall on this vehicle for the dash cluster not working properly. I sent the truck to a neighborhood auto repair shop who ran it on their dynometer and found that the speedometer was grossly off. I contacted Chevrolet and they will not honor the recall because the vehicle has 112,000 miles on it. I purchased the vehicle from enterprise leasing company 1 year ago when it had 101,000 miles on it. So I went to them for recourse and they too will not honor the recall because it has too many miles on it. I am appalled that this was not taken care of before I unsuspectingly bought the vehicle from a reputable company that should have made sure that it was in good working order before they sold it. At the very least no outstanding recalls. Now I'm stuck with a speeding ticket cost and the new dash cluster.

Speedometer on 2004 chevy Silverado 2500hd started acting erratically at 56,000 miles.
We have a 2004 chevy Silverado 2500hd. We bought the vehicle with 45k miles on it. Not long after, the speedometer started acting up. I turned the truck off, restarted and the speedometer was fine. We now have 100k miles on the truck and the speedometer reads 120mph all the time. This has clearly been a huge problem with chevy, but yet they aren't taking responsibility for the problem. The dealerships continue to make $500-$800 on each incident. We've called multiple dealerships and not one of them will cover it.
The speedometer sticks, works intermittently. Sometimes reads slower than actual speed, sometimes reads faster than actual speed, sometimes doesn't work at all. Sometimes will simply "freeze" and not respond to changes in vehicle speed.
Speedometer failure--speedometer would read incorrectly and now has completely failed. Nothing to date has been done to correct the problem.
Speedometer failure it is never accurate, I can not trust what it says it even goes to 130 mph while parked.
Speedometer provided false readings.
The gauge clust go nuts I will be doing 40 miles per hour then I look at my seed and it says 120 and gets stuck and no one wants fix it because there may be a recall on it so where is that recall or is it that it has to cause someone's life over it before something is done about it!!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving approximately 45 mph the contact noticed that the speedometer displayed an inaccurate reading regardless of the speed rate being driven. The vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction at this time. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was unknown.
My speedometer is reading the wrong speed in my 2004 2500hd chevy.
Speedometer starting acting up by over registering my speed and now reads 120+mph no matter what my speed. It falls back to 50mph when I turn off the ignition.
I was driving down the road in my 2005 chevy Silverado 2500 hd when I noted the speedometer reading >90 mph (I was not going that fast. . . Towing a 5th wheel camper). The speedometer continued to malfunction and has not returned to correct operation since. There is little doubt this is a safety issue and apparently is a consistent problem with many 2002-2005 chevy vehicles. This vehicle has only 36000 miles on it and has not been abused. Issue is not yet repaired as it happened only yesterday.
My speedometer is not working. It is frozen at 30 mph.
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd - speedometer stuck/inop.
Today driving home my cable was at 65 mph in a 40 stopping noticed that the speedometer cable would not go down went to local repair shop and told about the recall called chevy dealer and yes the same 70000 miles. When I purchased this vehicle it had more then 70,000 miles so I get penalized for the purchase ! looks like chevy should stick by there products and bring a recall for all the pickups !!.
Speedometer faulty incorrect at times to fast and to slow other times, one time it showed 120+ while cars were passing me on the freeway 0 or slower at 65 (staying with traffic?) never knew the speed I was going had have the instrument panel replaced at a cost over $600. 00 at 43000 miles on truck 05 chevy Silverado 2500 hd duramax.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that he must disconnect his battery in order for the speedometer to work. The speedometer is stuck on 45 mph and does not move up or down. The dealer stated that there was no recall; however, a TSB stated that within seven years or 70,000 miles the gauge clusters could be replaced. The vehicle was not included in the TSB. The failure mileage was 97,400. Updated 03/23/09. The consumer stated he never knows how fast he is driving. Updated 03/24/jb.
Speedometer reads wrong sometimes shows over 100 mph when going 50 mph.
2005 chevy 2500 hd speedometer failure @44,000 mile. The speedometer went to 120 mph at 55 mph, sitting still it would still read 60 mph. Dash cluster had to be replaced under my extended warranty.
2005 chevy Silverado 2500 hd. At approx. 50,000 miles, the speedometer started acting up. Stuck and registered incorrect speed. I was able to "reset" it. Now at 78,000 miles, the speedometer will not stay correct.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet silverado hd2500 pickup with 32660 miles on it. The speedometer suddenly went wild while I was driving. I had just exited a 75 mile an hour freeway and immediately had to reduce to 25 miles an hour. The speedometer registered all over the chart. I am learning it is the instrument cluster and gm has not issued a recall. It will cost $500 to get repaired. I am not driving it now. I have also learned this is a common complaint.
Faulty speedometer on 2004 silverado. Problem started outside of normal warranty and finally completely failed outside of extended warranty through lawsuit. Just paid for it to be fixed at a cost of $525. Gm should have to pay for this.
