Driving down the highway at 60mph, dash started blinking for trailer brake service needed. Was not trailering anything. Within 3 seconds I had smoke filling the cab, pulled over and got out. 3 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/04/2026

Rear tailgate opening and closing repeatedly on its own. Background: arrived home from work yesterday evening, Jun 4, 2026. Parked my truck in the driveway. It was a hot sunny day. Turned the vehicle off, exited the vehicle, and locked the doors. Upon walking around behind my vehicle, the tailgate was opening and closing repeatedly. I attempted to manually close it to see if it would stop, I pushed the lock button on my key fob, and I pressed the tailgate button on the dash which would normally cause it to either open or close depending on its current position. None of those steps resolved the issue. I quickly googled the problem, identified the correct fuse in the dash, and pulled the endgate fuse to stop the tailgate from opening and closing on its own. With the fuse pulled, the tailgate does not function. I called my dealer who informed me it is a known issue with some silverado trucks and that some had been recalled however he noted my 2022 was not included in the recall for this issue. I have an appointment on Jun. 19, 2026 to have it repaired.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 05/13/2026

In may 2026, my vehicle began exhibiting serious and dangerous problems. It would shake violently after starting and occasionally stop on its own while driving. On [xxx], my wife and I got into the vehicle and started driving from our home in west virginia. While driving uphill at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly began shaking severely and then came to a complete stop. After a few moments, it restarted itself and accelerated to about 30–40 mph while continuing to shake violently. This happened several times during the trip. Fuel consumption also became extremely abnormal, dropping to approximately 6 miles per gallon. Because team one Chevrolet in oakland, maryland, is the nearest dealer, we drove there for service. After several hours, the dealer returned the vehicle and informed us that they had replaced a sensor. However, after leaving the dealership, the check engine light came on again after only three engine starts. I immediately returned to the dealership, where the warning light was cleared. The following day, the check engine light returned. When I contacted the dealership, I was told to continue driving the vehicle with the warning light on for one to two weeks. After more than a week, I returned to the dealership, and the light was reset again. A few days later, the same problem reappeared. At that point, I was informed that, according to dealership procedures, replacement parts could not be ordered until the issue had been reported three times. After the third visit, the parts were finally ordered, and I was required to wait several more weeks for another service appointment. I also reported the issue directly to Chevrolet. Despite multiple visits, repeated failures, and a significant amount of time spent attempting repairs, my vehicle remains unrepaired. My factory warranty is approaching expiration, and no one has provided a clear answer regarding what will happen if the upcoming repair attempt fails to resolve the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information ac.

6 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Truck will not release the key consistently upon shutting down the truck. The interlock will not allow it to turn fully off and pull out despite being placed in park.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/13/2026

My 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd 6. 6 gas with 59k miles has been experiencing the "shift to park" problem associated with this and other Chevrolet/gm vehicles. When putting the car in park, the column shifter moves the transmission from drive to park but when you shut off the vehicle the "shift to park" warning comes on and prevents the car from completely shutting down. Apparently, this is due to a defective microswitch inside the steering column that gm is well aware of. There are literally hundreds of thousands of us Chevrolet/gm owners experiencing this same problem and gm needs to acknowledge their problem and fix it as they are charging up to $700 to fix this defective part that they know is causing this issue. This has nothing to do with regular "wear and tear" on the vehicle. Gm is well aware of this issue and needs to be held accountable and issue a recall to fix this problem.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/07/2026

Power tailgate opens and closes by itself. Safety of others is at risk if materials fall out on the road while driving if the tailgate opens by itself. There has been a recall for this but my truck VIN is not included yet had the same issue. No warning when tailgate started having issues.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

Batteries being drawn down from a parasitic draw. Tailgate won’t operate from outside the truck and infotainment system malfunctioning also lights flashing periodically. This is the second time in about a month this has happened. The first time the dealer said I had bad batteries so I replaced both of them with napa batteries. Waiting to hear from the dealer now on the findings this time.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/12/2026

I was driving the truck on my way to work in [xxx] , last March 12, 2026, at around 6:50 am. It was raining when I entered the exit ramp to work going west; the truck died, and the steering wheel locked. I tried to start it, but it wouldn't. The dashboard displayed: 'trailer park brake failed,' 'power steering pump needs service,' and 'axle repair error. ' I was on the exit ramp for a highway that runs north and south, and I could have been t-boned; it was still dark. The truck was towed to curry Chevrolet in scarsdale. They said it was the ecm and ordered the part. They installed the new ecm module last Tuesday, March 17. The service manager called me and said they tested the truck, but it is still showing active codes. A gm advisor called me saying the truck should be ready for pickup this Friday. However, this afternoon, I got a call from the service manager saying there is another issue—the engine wiring harness—and they will order the part; now it will not be ready until next week. Gm owes me my life. I do not want to drive the vehicle. The service department people at curry Chevrolet are very professional, but did I pay and spend a lot of money for a garbage truck? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

11 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/11/2026

This vehicle does not recognize that the gear is on park. Due to the issue, it has left me stranded twice. The first time it was at a very remote area up in the mountains. I was stuck for hours due to battery dying. The second time being a very dangerous situation because it was a very dangerous area late at night.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/07/2026

The entire infotainment system has gone black. Nothing shows on the screen. This is a safety issue as it does not show blind spot monitoring, heads up display, lane change warnings, allow hands free calling, gps, and much more. None of the safety features are available with a trailer hookup as well. We have taken it to a certified Chevrolet dealer who has said the truck was the 6th one that they have placed an order for in just over a week. The infotainment system is currently on back order which makes operating the vehicle concerning with its proper safety features.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/03/2026

I was driving down the road at approximately 55 mph when all of a sudden, my truck decelerated and a warning signal displayed on my dash indicating my speed was being forcibly reduced to approximately 30 mph. Fortunately, I was on a rural road versus the interstate. I pulled over and had an obd2 reader. The reader indicated I had a p-2138 error code from a "voltage correlation error between the two accelerator pedal position (app) sensors". I was able to limp along with emergency flashers to return home. After driving approximately 10 miles, the "issue" resolved itself. I have since replaced the gas petal assembly after learning this is a common failure on many years of the chevy silverado series.

14 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/16/2026

15 Electrical System problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

The internal components of the tailgate are damaged by water and need to be replaced. They cause the tailgate to open and close randomly. This could cause items to fall from the truck bed on to the road.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

Switch fails in shifter assembly that is supposed to sense the vehicle is in park. Does not allow the key to be removed. Dealership explained that complete failure may cause the vehicle to actually get stuck in drive. Very common problem that typically occurs just outside of bumper to bumper warranty. Related to a cheap microswitch but requires $1000 full replacement of the shifter assembly.

17 Electrical System problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

When putting vehicle in park, I get a message on dash that says "shift to park" when the vehicle is already in park. The vehicle electrical components does not turn off. Sometimes if I wiggle/hit or stick my hand under the steering wheel adjustment lever I can get it to turn off. Becoming more troublesome. Through research I see it is a common issue among gm/chevy vehicles.

18 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

Rear defroster seemed to short circuit and over heated causing my back window to break. There was no warning, no light that alerted me to this going on. I had it inspected by a local chevy dealership and they have indeed confirmed that it short circuited and caused the damage to my rear window. They also removed the fuse to prevent anything further from happening and told me it could have completely caught on fire.

19 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/24/2026

On approximately January 24, 2026 my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd equipped with the 6. 6 duramax diesel displayed an error code (p20b9). This error code was found to be related to the diesel exhaust fluid system specifically relating to "reductant heater a control circuit/open. " on January 27, 2026, the vehicle was diagnosed at Chevrolet dealership and the following was reported "diesel emissions fluid tank remove and replace - p20b9 set for reductant heater circuit. . . Commanded on and zero amps. . Circuitfailure. . . Disconnect pump module and burned/overheated terminals. . Pump module and harness part of tank assembly. . . Labor time added to perform malfunction/tamper test to clear emissions message. . . . " I found the "burned/overheated terminals" comment to be alarming. I looked into this matter further and found a gm service bulletin (21-na-006) from October 2022. This bulletin identified this issue which contained an image showing burned/overheated terminals. The identified cause within the bulletin states "this condition may be caused by a poor connection at the emission reduction fluid tank electrical connector. " I believe this should upgraded to a safety recall due the the potential of this terminal connection catching fire which could be detrimental for the operator, passengers, property, and the public.

20 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

I was leaving my farm property after loading my truck and tailgate and drove home 20 miles. At some point in the drive my tailgate dropped and fell onto the trailer tongue. This caused damage to my tailgate. I have called the dealer and they informed me there was a recall on the tailgate latch but they completed the work on the recall defect. I am questioning this and want to understand what to do now. I don't trust the tailgate and the truck has no warning system for when the tailgate drops like a door open signal.

21 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/26/2025

My truck went into limp mode with pulling a trailer on the highway due to a wide known injector pigtail failing. The truck would not accelerate, started shaking and lost speed suddenly. After resetting the dtc on my computer, each time the truck would hit a rough spot on the highway and vibrate, the truck would go back into limp mode. After getting the truck repaired at $566. 67 cost, the dealer say they would not help with the cost. Said the NHTSA would have to force them to fix this now issue. This was not a cheap truck and gm should not have there customers at risk in traffic with a know limp mode issue.

22 Electrical System problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/13/2025

The check engine light goes on continously and it goes to limp mode. The truck cannot be driven daily and most of the time is in the dealer fixing the updates or computer. It is not an equipment problem but a computer problem.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet silverado 2500. The contact stated that the connector for the heater system was causing the vehicle to overheat, subsequently enabling the vehicle to go faster than 50 mph. If the vehicle reaches 75 miles, it would immediately decrease in speed to 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed a p20c1 code, indicating reductant heater failure had occurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the dealer, who recommended calling the NHTSA hotline to file a safety complaint. The manufacturer was informed of the failure they also referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a safety complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/10/2025

Had new western wideout snowplow (recommended by western) installed by western dealership on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd with the factory snow plow prep package (rpo vyu). Vehicles instrument cluster, hvac, radio and other electrical systems cut out while operating snowplow. Gm is well aware of this issue per gm service bulleting no. : pit5387c (Feb 2016) through pit5387p (10/17/2024), as well as gm upfitter integration ui bulletin #124k (11/7/2019). All list this specific vehicle. This issue effects snowplows by all manufactures and is not confined to western. Per the above bulletins published by gm, gm is to supply and install a wiring harness under a unique one time warranty procedure that does not expire with the vehicles base warranty. Gm dealerships as well as gm's consumer assistance hotline state that gm part number 84043394 (fitting 2014-2019 vehicles) referenced to in pit5387c and other bulletins has been discontinued. Up bulletin 124k refers to and instructs to install gm part number 84288774 vyu snow plow jumper harness per the latest version of gm service bulletin pit5387. With a note stating "this jumper harness and installation will be provided (one time) without charge". Gm dealerships and gm customer assistance (parts) state that pn 84288774 does not appear in their parts system as a valid gm part. The official gm parts store part. Gmparts. Com lists this part but shows that it does not fit this vehicle. Therefore neither gm nor western is able to provide any actionable solution to this known and documented issue. Gm manufactured, sold, promoted, advertised and continues to state that snowplows can be installed on these vehicles with (or without) gm's factory snow plow prep option. Additionally gm continues to issue and publish bulletins instructing gm dealerships how to fix this issue despite being fully aware of this impossibility. Gm has also made it impossible for gm to honor gm's own warranty that is still in effect for a known safty issue.

The vehicle was in a collision that occurred to the front of the vehicle causing the seat belts to lock up a burst of compressed air to come from the dash, the hazards to engage and the dome lights to engage, the vehicle then was taken into get repaired at a certified dealership, after dealing with the dealership and general motors we find out the sensor did engage for the airbags to deploy but the airbags failed to deploy properly or break through the dash, the dealership and manufacturer are now not wanting to find out why this is doing this and just put a new airbag baffle in and call it a day.

We believe that it is the park sensor in the column . When you place the truck into park, the screen displays the words shift to park period and the dinger. Inside the truck continues to ding for a long time, even with opening and closing the door . . . The truck is actually in park, so it does not move. But the display says it's not. And apparently it is not registering because it keeps dinging.
