Dash Wiring Problems of Chevrolet Silverado 2500

2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd. Consumer states severe electrical fire damage to the dash, windshield and all wiring components to the cab. The consumer stated when he went to take pictures for his insurance company, he noticed the truck started to spark under the dash. He closed the door and walked away. As he was walking away, he turned around and noticed smoke rolling out of the windows. The consumer called the fire department and they were able to put the fire out. The consumer was not given any paperwork.

Blower motor stopped working last year. I had a new blower motor installed and the replacement stopped working. When I brought my truck to be repaired for the second time, I was informed that there is a problem with the wiring/resistor which supplies power to the blower motor. Apparently, the motor pulls more power than the wiring is rated for which causes it to heat up and burn the insulation off of the wiring under the dashboard. My mechanic told me that I should consider myself lucky that my truck did not catch fire like another customer's truck he had recently repaired for the same reason as mine had. I feel that I have paid for repairs twice due to defective gm parts.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd (n/a). The contact stated that after purchasing the vehicle he noticed something burning from under the dashboard. The vehicle was taken apart and the contact found that there was burned and melted wires. The contact replaced the wiring harness and the blower motor. The failure recurred a few months later. The dealer was contacted and they advised him of which components that he needed to replace. The contact later received notification a manufacturers silent recall and the contact was offered a partial reimbursement from the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. The VIN was unavailable.

I own a 2005 chevy 2500 silverado ext. Cab 4x4 since new. Last year in late March the wiring plug and resistor for the heater/ac blower motor shorted out, caught fire and melted right at the resistor. This is located on the passenger side of the pickup, under the dash, visible from below. The same thing, only not as severe this time, (I caught it early) just happened again. This time I took the pickup to the dealer to have them look at it and fix it. They replaced the resistor and semi-melted plug, the same fix I did myself the first time. They had no explanation for why this happened. With minimal searching on the internet, I found numerous occasions of the same thing happening to other chevy pickup owners. When these resistors fail, there is great potential for fire, personal injury. I burned my fingers pretty bad the first time.

Blower fan speed quits, wiring is melted apart from too much amperage. This is going to cause fires if it has not already done so. Our company has 8 of these trucks and all of them are doing this. Chevy 1500's and 2500 trucks.
