This truck was parked on a job site, on a flat parking lot over blacktop, doing a regen for the 5th time in just a few days. The truck had 4,000 miles on it. When it completed the regen, we shut the truck off. Within 15 minutes the truck was fully engulfed in flames. A fire investigator looked at it and determined the fire started in the engine bay, below the master cylinder. He said this was a gm problem. As this truck was a replacement truck, for another broken down truck, we were outside the auto coverage on our insurance. The business property is covering the tool loss, and said it isnt worth going after gm as they make it impossible. I know this isnt the only vehicle this has happened to, and they simply refuse to even answer. I want to file a formal complaint against gm, and want them to cover the loss, the loss of use. This is a safety matter as this could have happened driving down the road and caused loss of life.

Trailer brakes and lights come and go. I start with having everything then loose brakes and lights when I’m driving. This is apparently a known issue that they have a fix for but I have never received anything about a recall.

I was driving down the highway at speed limit when the dash lights came on and the truck started jerking went to a mechanic and he stated it was a fuel ejector after getting it replaced the issue still occurs often check engine light comes on and off and this the only transportation I have for work.

The braking system is very weak given the towing and load rating on the truck. Emergency stopping is at times questionable. It seems there is almost no braking from the front axle of the truck. In 80000 miles the front brakes are still over 75% pad left with the rear brakes now being on the second set. I have had the dealership Chevrolet of canton look into this and they tell me that is how this trick is designed to work. This is the first truck I have ever owned that used the rear brakes more 4 times faster than the front brakes. This is an issue that gm needs to look into.

1st incident: when driving the vehicle dashboard shut off, no indicators working such as speedometer, gauges etc and brakes were not working, luckily I was in a 60 miles an hour zone so I had to just let the vehicle come to a gravity stop. To turn off the engine and start it back up again. 2nd incident: when driving the dash lights turned off and on like flickering on and off and all the gauges mentioned above did not work, and brakes did not work. This is very scary! all power in the truck is lost while driving and braking issue!.

When pulling my trailer with my 2024 chevy 3500, I get the following alert displayed on my screen periodically: trailer brakes disabled service required. The trailer brakes stop working on my 16000lb trailer and I need to pull off the road and shut off the truck, and then restart it to get my brakes working again. The dealer replaced the brake controller in the truck, but I still get the message. I towed this trailer across country 2 times in my 2020 chevy without a problem. I have hydrastar brakes on my 2022 keystone montana. Gm said it's a problem with the trailer. Hydrastar said they have had numerous reports from 2024 gm truck owners. I am bringing it back to the gm dealer Monday for an oil change but I was informed they have no further information to guide them please assist.

We were towing our 2025 brinkley z3100 fifth wheel and had a complete loss of trailer brakes with no warning or notification during a trip to and from the tennessee mountains from florida. Had we not noticed the poor stopping ability it would have been an issue on any downhill grades as the trailer is in excess of 14,000 lbs. We stopped didconnected and reconnected the 7 pin connector and brakes were restored. This happened 4 times. We have made an appointment with the service department at davis Chevrolet in gainesville florida however the service writer (paul) has already indicated that he feels it is a trailer problem with the interaction of the trailer. Internet searches show this is a common problem with the gm products and a service bullitin has been issued for years 2023-2024. Ours is a 2025 with the identical issues. I think there could be many many more of these out there and hope the issue can be resolved. I can reproduce the problem and it meets the full description of the service bullitin 6379278.

The brakes really seem to be lacking stopping power unloaded and especially while towing a 30' gooseneck loaded. I even have the brake controller set to 10 and it really takes awhile to stop. I have to deliberately leave even more room in front of me to make sure I can stop.

The trailer brake controller randomly shuts down. We have gone through our trailer meticulously and have found zero issues. We have used this trailer with other trucks without any issues. This truck brake controller is shutting down leaving the driver with out brakes. We almost had a wreck due to this. Gm keeps telling us that it is a trailer issue however the trailer works perfectly with any other truck. Someone is going to die in a wreck of this is not addressed immediately.

The brakes on this vehicle are very spongy, they have to be pushed all the way to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. When pulling a trailer you are on pins and needles wondering if you can get the truck to stop. The trailer brakes are doing most of the stopping. I have owned many trucks and the brakes on this 2024 chevy Silverado 3500 are the worst that I have ever experienced. This is a safety hazard with serious implications. I have talked to many other people with the same truck and they also claim that the brake system is faulty and/or sub standard. I have taken my truck back to the dealer and they claim that the brakes are working normal (test driving around their service lot). This is a serious problem that needs to be investigated by your orginazation. Thank you in advance for any insight on this serious brake issue.

The brake pedal pivot bolt nut loosened itself and came off of the bolt, allowing the bolt to back out of the pedal mount and the brake pedal fell out of position and became lodged behind the accelerator pedal. Thankfully no accident occurred. After performing research with local dealer and independent repair shop it was found to be an obvious repeat failure of the general motors safety recall #20760e already performed on the vehicle. I reached out to gm customer support who were rude and I received no help in the matter. Can provide more information upon request.

While connected to a RV which has onboard batteries, the truck's brake controller disables the braking system if the batteries on the RV fluctuate in voltage. The truck will give an alert advising "trailer brakes disabled. " this has occurred multiple times while pulling my RV which weighs 16,000 pounds, making it unsafe and hard to stop using only the truck's brakes. It happened while traveling through atlanta, GA and once in nashville, TN. Chevrolet has at least one TSB on this for similar 2022-2024 2500 and 3500 trucks. This has been a widely reported problem on several RV forums. The truck brake controller will work again if the engine is shut off and turned back on or the trailer is unplugged and re-plugged in the truck. This problem occurred approximately 10 times on my trip from missouri to florida in January and about the same number of times when returning to missouri at the end of February.

During operation of the vehicle at approximately 45mph and sudden stopping/ breaking is required, truck fails to do so. It is a partial loss of brake pressure and a loud "whale cry" type sound that appears to be coming from under the hood. I have had it happen twice just recently; I have taken to dealer, and they cannot replicate the issue. I have caught the sound the second time on video. To summarize truck loses partial breaking power, pedal does not bottom out, but it feels like there is not as much pressure being applied to the breaks when needed. Once the sound stops all braking returns to normal.

I haul vehicles for a living. My rear wheels locked up and my truck came to a complete stop while I was on the highway. Luckily I was able to pull over and no one was behind me. It has happened a total of 3 times. There is no fix for my recall yet. I’m terrified to drive, but this is how I make my living. What happens when it rains and my wheels lock up again. My life is on the line. I went to Chevrolet service they said they have no idea what could have caused this. Then a couple weeks later I get an open recall with no remedy. What am I suppose to do?.

While driving along pulling a trailer, you unexpectedly lose you trailer brakes. Someone is going to get seriously injured or killed if gm doesn't fix this.

Consistent error messages when trailering that lead to vehicle having a failure of trailer brakes.

We tow a 2024 grand design solitude 310gk with our 2020 chevy Silverado 3500 diesel truck. We are getting frequent but intermittent loss of our trailer brakes during towing. As you can imagine this is a serious safety issue. We will be towing and receive a message on the display "trailer brakes disconnected" then typically followed by "service trailer brakes". This has been happening more frequently over the past 3 months. Imagine driving down a hill with a 15k pound RV pushing you and there are no brakes on the 5th wheel. It is extremely scary and dangerous. I've researched on the internet and facebook and there seems to be a "technical bulletin" from gm bulletin no. : 23-na-149 date: September, 2023 recommending the replacement of the trailer brake control module. I've called to have the dealer replace our brake control module but it is not covered because it is a "bulletin" and not a "recall". This is absurd and the manufacturer should take care of this known issue.

Driving home from work 7/1/2024 approx 5:15pm smelled burning smell, no noise or dash lights, thought it was another car. 1 minute later, heard a thump from under hood and "charging system failure" came on dash. Decided to take to chevy dealer, which was 5 minutes away. Within next 2 minutes steering failed. As I came to next intersection, brakes failed, went thorough red light, luckily not hit by another vehicle. Coasted to stop and called tow service. Engine was still running until I turned it off. Had towed to local chevy dealer. Ac compressor had locked up, broken belt. Steering and brakes failed. Dealer agreed both failed, but would not list the brake failure on the invoice. I was originally invoiced 2900. 00 to repair, even though truck had only 29244 miles. That was reduced to 1160. 00. Was told it was 2 months past 36 month warranty. Engine was still under warranty, but ac, alternator, power steering and brakes, was not,. I had contacted gm which originally told me they would reimburse me for repairs and would mail me a check, I have the email. When check did not arrive after 2 months, I contacted my case worker again via email and phone. Could not get a response after about 6 attempts. When I called and finally got another person, I was informed they had changed their mind.

I was towing my 36 ft 5th wheel home from my storage place when the engine stopped. I had no brakes or power steering. I was coming up to a stop sign when this occurred so fortunately I was only moving about 15 mph. I was able to stop the truck and trailer by using the 5th wheel braking system without any damage to vehicle or other property. Once I regained my composure I tried to start the truck. All the dash lights were on but it would not start. The digital display kept showing service ecm & service stabilitrak. I had the truck towed to the dealer where it is right now. They have been unable to replicate the issue and have no suggested fix at this time. I had no prior warning messages or symptoms of the problem. All of this happened Sunday April 5, 2024. The truck is a 2024 and I bought it new, picked it up November 30, 2023. Current mileage is 3,523. If I would have been towing on the interstate at 60-65 mph around a curve this could have been catastrophic.

Message will appear that states : trailer brake system needs serviced “ when that appears and I am currently towing a trailer I lose all power to trailer including the brakes. I can’t signal I can’t use the trailer brakes. I’m towing 14,000 lbs and when I’m going down a 6% grade this is very dangerous. I have had vehicle in twice for this issue , first time I was told they replaced a controller, 2nd time they said no problems detected. For me to lose all power to tow vehicle is unacceptable and extremely dangerous.

When driving my truck and towing a trailer which has elec. Over hyd. Brakes and trying to stop. My truck will disable my brakes on my trailer, which may weigh 3+ times the weight of my truck. Gm had a recall on the truck brake module which fixed my problem. Then l took my truck back for an oil change a few months later and they said that there is a open recall on the brake module (newer update) which once again caused my brake issues again with the newer recall. L have opened up a complaint with gm and they say take it to a gm dealer. The dealer checks the truck out and says there is no problem with the truck. They tell me that l need to install a module on my trailer ,which l did early on with the problem. L did own a 2017 chevy and pulled that trailer with no issues. The trailer dealer hooked the trailer to a 2018 GMC and a 2016 Dodge pick-up. And had no problem with the trailer brakes and put a nys inspection sticker on my trailer last month. We !! the trailer dealer and myself have spoken to the company ( brake module) that gm says that l need. This trailer brake module which the trailer dealer installed in Feb 2024 still did not fix my problem. The brake module company told me gm has his words a hornets nest problem with this issue. I have issues where I am connected to a new 42" 5th wheel and constantly get "check trailer wiring" warnings as we drive down the road. I have been running with the lights on and they are on and fine, when the warning displays, but lose brakes to the trailer (both through pressing the brakes or controller and the trailer indicator light goes off). I cleaned the ground area and replaced the connector and still see issues. I checked continuity in the cable and good. I have been adding dielectric grease to the 7-pin connector. I saw a youtube video where another gentleman, with a similar vehicle, had had the same issue and got a recall under gm service bulletin 6379278 for a trailer brake controller replacement. When I talked to gm/chevy consumer support, they advised that my truck was not under this bulletin and advised to call the NHTSA to get a case open or added to the service bulletin. I have a case open with gm #9-11303425686.

The right brake caliper malfunctioned and is available for inspection from dealer. There was significant safety risk due to the fact all brake power was lost making the vehicle very difficult to stop. The dealer confirmed the caliper failed. The component has not been inspected. No warning, or symptoms and vehicle is maintained at dealer at recommended intervals.

This problem concerns faulty emergency brakes. The issue was discovered in the driveway, when I engaged the parking brake with the vehicle in park and my foot on the brake. The service emergency brake light came on and stayed on. When the problem was investigated at the dealership, it was found that the brake pad abradable material had delaminated from the brake shoe and was floating loose inside the drum. This same condition was found on 3 of the 4 brake shoes. Based on the appearance of the parts it did no appear they fell off when the parking brake was engaged, but had been loose for some time. With loose parts floating inside the brake drum sooner or later they will move and could lock up the rear wheel. The Chevrolet service department did not seem to be concerned with condition. A big concern is that the parking brake needs to be engaged to discover the issue. Many people rarely if ever engage their parking brake and could be driving around with loose parts in their wheels. The fact that this happened in just three years indicates the parts were produced with a faulty bond material. The abradable should never just fall off. On a backup safety system that is required on all vehicles, this issue should be taken more seriously by the manufacturer.

The truck intermittently disconnects and reconnects from the trailer. Trailer brakes don't work briefly when this happens. At night when truck and trailer lights are on the truck detects trailer is disconnected, this happens every few minutes. Note: I've seen a bulletin about solar panels on the trailer, I do not have solar panels on the trailer. Also, blind spot mirror indicators at night are almost constantly on. When the trailer and truck lights go off, the blind spot indicators work as intended.

While traveling with a 5th wheel camper, that has solar panels the brake controller stops providing a connection to the trailer brakes. This is a know problem of the 2024 Chevrolets and so far there is not a fix. This is a big big safety issue. The documentation from Chevrolet states the issue is once the battery charges and has a higher voltage than the truck battery it will surge the system and deactivate the braking system on the camper.

Rear passenger side, brakes, locking up keeping the truck from rolling. Replaced the brake fluid line and also both calipers. The brakes are still locking up.

There are several problems I’ve noticed some I fix myself! first of all, I was driving my truck at night on the country road and all of a sudden it starts losing power shut down on me on a little road with no pull over spots in kentucky and just dies completely. My service charging system light came on. I worked on this forever. I noticed it. All of my grounds were completely nasty and pretty much not making contact. I fix the ones that I can find only two I know there’s more, I’ve changed the generator three times and the battery once, the problem happened again and again and again the only way I can stop my truck from dying is when that light come on if I got out and I took the negative wire off of my battery and then put it back on it would run again for about another three days and then if I didn’t see it, I’m stranded very dangerous. Finally I took it to my mechanic up the road and he basically did the same things. I did something about a door switch also though not another battery another generator and he added new battery cables so far it hasn’t done it again. Now my truck when starting to slow down, it will vibrate and shake you to death. You hit a little vibration in the road say a rumble strip. This thing will shake you through the roof in about make you run into another vehicle , also, it’s hard to fill up the gas if you have to turn the gas nozzle almost straight up and down if you’re low on gas to make it except it or you’ll be sitting there for 30 minutes putting gas in your truck. I noticed also all of my wheels are having rough spots on them everywhere and they are rusting into . Another thing that happens this truck eats breaks for breakfast. I have put in the past two years at least have the change the brakes, calipers rotors and all twice a year sometimes three times a year. Also, the trailer brake system light comes on nonstop along with a service stability track on when happen. No wasey no cruise control. I am a masterelect. Maintain truck it ju.

I was following a vehicle at 3-4 car lengths at 35 mph. The vehicle in front made an aggressive stop and although I immediately saw the incident, I could not stop in time with a full panic stop by pressing the brakes hard to the floor. My brakes felt greasy and even though I had enough separation, the truck did not decelerate much. I felt the anti-lock mechanism but it did not seem to slow the vehicle.

I purchased a certified pre-owned 2020 chevy Silverado 3500hd (6. 6 gas) November 2021. Within the next few weeks, I noticed brake squeaking that kept getting worse and the truck braking system would not stop like the 2500 I had traded in when I purchased the 3500hd. I had to adjust the trailer brake gain control up to as high as 9 or 9. 5, should not have to adjust that high. I had trouble stopping at intersections and quick /emergency braking situations while pulling our trailer. This tells me the truck braking system is not working properly. Prior to leaving on a trip, I was having squeaking noise from the brakes that got louder and louder and more frequent. The dealer (champion Chevrolet) checked the truck and brakes and told me it had the wrong brake pads and had replaced them. The first time I pulled off the interstate on my trip to florida, the brakes began to squeak as they did before. This happened during the entire trip. Over the next few weeks after returning from my trip I had a couple of close calls trying to stop at traffic signals. My breaks would not stop me and I went into the intersection barely missing other vehicles. I am almost to the point of parking the truck until the dealer can make repairs that will fix the issues, but we use the truck to pull a trailer that is a major part on our income. I’ve had the truck back to the dealership I purchased the truck from and they keep saying it is a brake pad issue. They have changed the pads twice so far (I think), and within days the squeaking and noise starts again. Periodically I keep getting a message (service trailer brake system) on my dash display that is difficult to get the warning to stop displaying. The trailer brakes had been checked several times and I have hooked other trucks to the trailer and it works fine. So, the issue is with my truck and the braking system. Jeff moore.

There was an abnormal beeping noise detected and the instrument cluster was flashing. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle was vibrating. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the mechanic was unable to assist. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph the brake pedal extended to the floor when pressed causing the vehicle to nearly collide into the rear of a second vehicle. Moments later the contact discovered that rear driver side brake pad had ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle was later taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the exact cause of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Also, while operating the vehicle the transmission had erroneously disengage out of four wheel drive. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 17,000.
