36 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 10/11/2021

Driving my truck, without a trailer, the "service trailer brakes soon" fault came on my truck. This is a known problem that gm is aware of with their itbc system for years & have done selective recalls for. This a hazard to the motoring public. There is no warning when this fault happens while pulling a trailer & when it does pop up, you lose all trailer brakes. I had the same problem with my 2010 silverado, after numerous visits to the dealership & thousands of dollars & filed complaints with gm & NHTSA, nothing was done. When taken to the dealership, if the fault isn't on the screen, they claim they can't find or fix the problem. I pull a 10,000 pound 5th wheel, I need trailer brakes when I apply them.

It is a diesel and uses hydraulic assist. Dealer replaced belt could not determine cause of problem. Has not been inspected. No warning.

38 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 06/18/2021

2015 chevy 3500 hd has 65,xxx miles on it currently. Truck periodically and usually randomly displays a "service trailer brake" message which constantly goes off when nothing is being towed. Now about 1 in 15 times driven will it not display this message. Ive had the towing brake module replaced and that did not fix this problem. I'm at my wits end with this truck. Chevrolet / GMC need to step up and make this widely known problem a recall. Thanks.

41 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 08/07/2018

Bought truck new. Bought a brand new fifth wheel trailer to tow. Sometimes while towing the trailer, the truck will "shudder" while driving at highway speed. This has happened maybe 3 or 4 times in the 2 years that I have had the truck and trailer. It "shudders" bad enough that it has nearly caused an accident. When it does this, the stabilitrak, traction control and all my gauges come on. The speedometer and tach reset. All this while driving. Brought to the dealership and all they do is point the finger at the trailer manufacturer. Trailer manufacturer says they are aware of the issue, and it is only happening to chevy trucks this has been an issue since I bought the truck and trailer.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 01/20/2018

While driving on the freeway, exiting to an off-ramp, truck lost power steering and brakes simultaneously, without any prior indications of mechanical trouble. Chevrolet currently shows no recall on this vehicle. Fortunately traffic was light and a collision was avoided. Why would one critical system's pump--power steering--be used to drive a second critical system's pump--hydrobooster?.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 09/27/2017

Randomly with no needed instance the instrument cluster reads service trailer break. With or without a trailer connected. With the trailer connected the trailer breaks fails to operate causing a very serious safety concern. After pulling to the side of the road as safely as possible with an approximate of 20k pounds with no brakes on the trailer and turning the truck on and then back off the brakes resume as normal. Other service prompts randomly appear on the info cluster on this particular vehicle, but none as serious as this particular one. Such as service front camera, service stabilitrac, and service def system. While these may all be related to the same cause I feel my life and the lives of the general public are being gambled with while the cause is guessed at. I have taken my truck in for these related issues for a total of three times now. Each time I am sent back out to be the test dummy in this potential death trap. The videos were to big to upload to this form. But I have videos of this issue with and without a trailer connected available upon request. Please excuse my profanity!.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 07/24/2017

Brakes are not efficient. They need enormous amount of pressure to stop. Or brake pedals must be applied(pumped) several times to stop better with less pressure.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

While driving on a four-lane highway towing our 15,500 lb fifth wheel, suddenly, without any warning, we heard rattling, lost power, and the engine shut down. The noise and loss of propulsion, power steering and power brakes all occurred within about 2-3 seconds. Gratefully, the driver had the fortitude to immediately begin pulling onto the shoulder of the slight downward slope on which were were driving. Luckily, we were on a stretch of road that was not inclined, not in a construction zone with barriers, not in a snowy mountain pass or in other inclement weather, not in the left lane passing, etc. Had any of these factors prevented us from simply pulling onto the shoulder of the road, the potential for a life threatening accident would have been significant. The Chevrolet/gm service center confirmed the bosch cp4 hpfp suffered a catastrophic failure, destroying the entire fuel system of the truck. Gm is covering part of the repair costs (truck is at 119,705 miles), but our bill will remain substantial. Research of diesel, tdi, and other forums document this problem as well-known and broader than the existing 9 complaints in the nhsta public database and the investigation of vw/Audi. Some people are even reporting multiple failures. The most common believable cause of the failures seems to be a mismatch of lubricity specs between the bosch cp4 and the diesel fuel in the u. S. Please open an investigation, and order gm, Ford, vw, bosch and others to recall these vehicles to provide the necessary repairs. Also please mandate, to the extent you're able, reimbursement to those of us paying for repairs today. I have read, but have not been able to confirm, that vw extended the warranty to 120k miles. This seems like a minimum (more is better) step, and it should be retroactive.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

During operation of vehicle, power braking and steering is lost. Vehicle fails to stop or steer easily and therefore will not stop in safe distance. Occurs usually at slow speeds but increases stopping distance and requires extreme strength to turn. May happen several times during short trip. Vehicle has hydraulic assist (steering pump) brake system. Definitely unsafe and appears canada has already acted on.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 08/27/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. While driving approximately 70 mph hauling a goose neck flatbed duel tandem trailer, the power bus bar shorted. In addition, there was a failure with a loose wire associated with the starter. The radio would not turn off and the contact was locked in the vehicle. The contact was able to exit the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer tightened the wires and replaced all of the bus bars. The next morning, within less than 20 miles, the bus bars failed again. The brake, traction control, and other warning indicators and gauges illuminated. The contact was locked in the vehicle and had to move the key back and forth as well as use the key fob to exit the vehicle because the lever would not release. The vehicle was towed to the dealer a second time. The dealer failed to route the wires correctly, in which the edge of the bracket rubbed a hole in the power cable. The tailgate fractured and shorted due to the failure, but the dealer and manufacturer refused to replace the part. The vehicle was taken to the dealer two additional times, but they were unable to replicate and diagnose the failures. When the contact took the vehicle to the dealer a fourth time, the dealer replaced the air intake heater. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.

48 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

When positioning my truck to hook up my 5th wheel camper I lost my brakes. There was no warning of any kind and I wasn't sure until I got out and saw the puddle . Even after moving the truck an losing more fluid there was still no warning. I hate to think if had hooked up and been down the highway when corroded metal lines blew out!.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 06/16/2015

A warning message comes on the dash telling the driver there is a issue with the trailer brakes, or wiring system. The trailer brakes become inoperable when this comes on. We have contacted gm with the issue, both at the dealer level and at the corporate level; and they insist it is a problem with our trailers. The same trailers are used with older Chevrolet trucks without incident. We have also been informed by gm that the 2015 silverado 2500's are equipped with a more sensitive trailering system. When the connection becomes wet during inclement weather, or the truck hits a bump; and the connector loses contact momentarily the message will illuminate. Resulting in the loss of trailer brakes. This is a serious safety issue.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

Why isn't NHTSA forcing gm to recall all these trucks and SUV's with badly rusting brake systems??? my 2001 chevy Silverado 3500 has major brake issues due to rust/corrosion. I was traveling the interstate and went for my exit, stepped on the brake pedal and it went to the floor, nearly a no brake situation, fortunately I still had my front brakes working. This truck spends it's nights in the garage, and is well cared for with low mileage for a 2001 (only 98,000) miles, my 2002 Dodge grand caravan has 210,000 miles! and I've never had any issues with brake-line rust/corrosion. I don't feel safe taking my truck on long vacations or using it to tow a travel trailer (which is why I bought it) and it only has 98,000 miles, but my trusty grand caravan gives no problems with its brake performance even with 210,000 miles.

Failure Date: 10/07/2008

We have had a problem with squealing brakes since about not even a week of owning it. We called it in and took it in to koons Chevrolet of white marsh in which they took it for less then 2 mile test drive and didn't even remove the tires (we could tell because its a dually and not 1 finger print on the dirty hubcap). They cleared ticket out and claimed no noise. We took it home still having problems with the squealing and we told them so and expressed our disgust that they didn't even check the wheels. Took it in for repair again and took for about 1 mile test drive and said they didn't hear anything, this time we took off work to watch and make sure they removed the tires. Once removed we looked at rotors and all which appeared blue as if they overheated (owner of vehicle works for meineke, brake specialist!!) this time after wasting our whole day they said they would turn the rotors (truck not even 2 months old, to ignorant to replace) however that don't matter because after wasting the whole day they decide to tell us they don't have the tools to fix it??? this is where we bought it and they cant service it and told us they already helped us more then they should have and this was straight from christian the service manager!.
