Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 12 problems related to car accelerates on its own (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I drive a 2018 chevy Suburban. This car had no lights on and has less than 18k miles on it. It is just over two years old and there are no recalls on the vehicle. I was driving with my four year old and we had driven about a mile. We were on the feeder road about to get on the freeway. The car started spontaneously accelerating on its own. Jerking faster and faster without me touching the gas. It was like we were on a runaway train. I panicked and slammed my foot on the breaks. There were no breaks - no tension or pressure in the brake pedal. The pedal just continuously slammed into the bottom of the car. I couldn't stop us. I thought quickly and slammed my foot on the parking brake as our car continued to accelerate quickly with no brake function. We jolted to a stop as cars zoomed around us honking and yelling. When I took the car off of the parking break, the same problem continued. No breaks and sporadic acceleration. Immediately after this incident a light came on that said service stabilitrak. The car was towed to the dealership. I'm sharing this for all car owners to remember the power of your parking break in an emergency. It's one thing to be annoyed when your car won't go, but it is pure panic and fear when your car won't stop and keeps going faster - especially with your precious child in the back seat.

The technician stated that the master cylinder was fractured and caused the brake lines to burst. In addition, the radiator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not serviced because the required equipment was not available to perform the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

I have noticed that when decelerating & applying my brakes when approaching a stop that my vehicle actually will accelerate all of the sudden. This has happened on several occasions, not always, but enough for me to be concerned. My daughter also experienced this sudden acceleration when she was driving my Suburban. She, like me, said it happened when she was approaching a stop sign and was applying brake pressure. This should be investigated.

When trying to come to a stop the vehicle seems to suddenly accelerate right before stopping. The vehicle is going less than 5 mph and it quickly lunges forward right before it gets completely stopped. Has done this on at least 3 different occasions. If I had been very close to the car/object in front of me I might have hit it.
The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that an abnormal and overpowering odor was present in the rear interior of the vehicle. The contact¿s four small children were asleep in the rear row seats and when called upon, did not awaken to respond. The contact exited the vehicle to inspect further and discovered the odor. Additionally, all four children had become asphyxiated by the fumes. Two of the four children were transported to the hospital where it was discovered that the children's asthma reacted to the overpowering odor, and were given medication for treatment. The vehicle was taken to one dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential fluid had overheated. The vehicle was taken to another dealer for the repairs where the technician stated that there was no failure and no repairs were performed. The contact also experienced rapid acceleration failure while sitting at a traffic stop. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer ten times yet the failure was unable to be replicated each time. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 400 and the current mileage was 55,000. The VIN was not available.
The accelerator hesitates when pressed. The car does not move and will then accelerate rapidly when at a stop and trying to accelerate through intersections. Dealer could not duplicate for repairs. Recurring issue. Also has a popping or clunking noise in back passenger side. Dealer has duplicated but not repaired.
2008 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer states unintended sudden acceleration. The consumer stated the vehicle accelerated rapidly from a standing start to enter the traffic lane ahead of oncoming traffic from the left. He depressed the accelerator pedal quickly, then let up, but the engine rpm continued to climb, as if the accelerator were fully depressed. Upon hearing the engine continue to accelerate on its own, and feeling the vehicle surge forward, the consumer applied the brake with full force, using both feet and was successful in bringing the vehicle to stop; distance traveled was about 40 feet from the point where the brakes were applied. Once stopped, the consumer put the transmission in park, where upon the engine accelerated to the rev limit. He immediately turned off the engine using the ignition switch, to avoid engine damage. After a moment, he restarted the engine, which resumed normal operation.
