Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 14 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The stability track lights keeps coming on and off. Dealer can't seem to find out what the problem is. It does not leave a code in order to find out what the problem is. When the light comes on it affects the cruise control and steering assist. This occurs while driving the vehicle. It doesn't matter if you are on a city street or highway.

When adaptive cruise is engaged, the system hesitates when lead vehicles slows at a slow rate (no brake lights observed on lead vehicle), requiring operator to apply brakes. When adaptive cruise control is engaged during highway driving, intermittently, medium slowing of lead vehicle (brakes applied) the vehicle does not react in time to avoid collision without active and heavy brake application (jerking driver and/or passenger) to avoid collision. Above 65 miles an hour the adaptive cruise control does not leave adequate distance between vehicle and lead vehicle. I first noticed this immediately upon first long distance drive. This is an ongoing problem. Happening frequently between July 4th and July 12. Since the July 12 the car has not been used frequently in situation where the cruise is used regularly. However during the few times on the highway between July 12 and now, the problem has reoccurred.

I have experienced my radio and steering controls fail to respond to touch, disconnect from phone calls, my cruise control has stopped working on several occasions and is now intermittent. The vehicle's lane departure assist is intermittent as well.

While driving on the highway I was using the cruise control and the car began to increase in speed without my control. It went from 65 to 90 in a few seconds and I had to slam on the breaks to get it to stop. This has happened several times. Also we can never let the gas get lower then a quarter of a tank or the car just shuts down like its empty. Sometimes the engine will just rev up for no reason and other times it doesn't accelerate properly. You can push the gas and it feels like the speed is delayed but then will catch up.

2008 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer writes in regards to the disappointment in the manufacturer due to numerous vehicle repairs. The consumer stated the vehicle would run rough, the check engine light illuminated, the service stabilitrak and traction control lights illuminated when some of the cylinders shut down, the lifters were not properly lubricated, causing them to fail. The engine consumed large amounts of oil. There were noises coming from the oil pan and transmission area, 3 of the 4 door locks actuators were replaced, the rear liftgate broke for the 4th time, the right retractable mirror was inoperable, the cruise control worked about 505 of the time, which was probably tied the throttle positioning sensor going bad as well. Also, the vehicle had significant electrical problem, where certain lights would illuminate on the dashboard, there was an audible clicking noise, that sounded like a relay firing very quickly.

Driving on cruise control at 45 mph. Then, we turn off cruise control, but speedometer stays at 45mph. Occurs once or twice a month. Have been stopped by the police once for driving to slow. Corrected by turning car on and off three or four times in a row.

Last Saturday, February 20, 2010, as I accelerated from a ramp to join traffic on the capital beltway outside washington DC, the cars gas pedal got stuck and did not retract when I got my foot off the accelerator. By now I was in the middle lanes and was only able to maintain the speed of the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal which thankfully was still operational. The gas pedal got unstuck on its own after a short while and I proceeded on my trip without incident. My wife told me she has had two almost similar experiences with this vehicle, in 2007 and 2008. Both times the car kept moving even after she took her foot off the gas pedal. At the time she thought she had accidentally engaged the cruise control, which she normally never uses. Both times the problem disappeared after a little while.

I have 2003 Suburban 1500, that keeps getting a error message "reduce engine power". The vehicle will all of sudden while driving, reduce speed and I can't accelerate above 25-30mph. I will have to pull over and turn car off for 10-15 seconds before it resets, however it will continue to happen over and over again! it is very scary and dangerous when I have my kids or my wife drive it because you never know when the car will have this happen. Strangely, when we drive on the highway we can use the "cruise control" feature when we reach 25mph and use the cruise control to accelerate that way with minimal occurances. I have taken the car to "2 chevy dealers and 3 mechanics" nither can tell us whats wrong! this is frustrating because we only have on car, and we know this a "safety hazard" and extremly dangerous and somebody has to look into this! I only hope someone who reads these complaints has the power to help me and everyone with this problem.
-the contact owns a 1998 Suburban 1500. On a clear day while driving at 70 mph with the cruise control the contact was unable to disengage the cruise control. He applied the brake to disengage the cruise control, but the vehicle continued travel at the set speed. He continued to drive, and found a safe place to try to disengage the cruise control by using the switch. By this time he could smell a burnt odor that generated from the brakes. He then unhooked the cruise control wire from the throttle and continued to drive the vehicle. When this happened the engine sounded as if it were racing. The current mileage was 82,877 miles, and the failure mileage was 82,800. Update 05/04/tr.

On two occasions my 2005 Suburban has stayed on cruise control even after turning off cruise control. My vehicle kept a constant speed at which it was set when I had the cruise control on. This has occurred on flat highways. I was not descending.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving approximately 60 mph, the contact noticed that the cruise control took an extremely long time to activate. When the cruise control finally activated, the vehicle jerked and made a loud revving noise. He then noticed that the rpm increased from 1,800 to approximately 4,300. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they acknowledged the failure, but could not determine the cause. The manufacturer was unable to provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 49,000.
While driving on a flat, even road at about 45 mph, the steering resistance just disappeared for a few seconds. This was frightening because there was absolutely no control of the steering for those few seconds and I drifted a little into the other lane. My husband and I experienced this same problem intermittently over the next day and almost exclusively when turning to the right. We were test driving the car and brought the problem up to the chevy dealer on return. They would not fix it but agreed to lower the purchase price by the estimated repair cost. We had it fixed the next day at the same chevy place (I felt it was unsafe to drive in that condition). They replaced the speed sensor and charged us $260. The repair appears to have solved the problem.
