Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 10 problems related to driveshaft (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was driving with my two young children in the car and my car made a clicking sound and then begin to shake and vibrate. Then all of a sudden it made a really loud noise that sounded like the bottom of the car fell onto the road and was being dragged along and the it would not go anymore. I tried putting it in park and it would not stop, it rolled backwards until I put the emergency brake on and turned it off. I had it towed to mechanic who informed me the drive shaft broke in two. It was a very scary incident with my two small children in the car. They were crying inconsolably and scared. I would like to know why this happened and if there is some kind of defect in the 2005 chevy Suburban that caused this.

While making a low speed sharp left turn, my power steering suddenly stopped working. I was able to avoid hitting anything. Diagnosis at the dealer was that the shaft on the power steering pump had snapped. While looking around on the internet to see if others had this problem, I discovered NHTSA campaign id 05v005000 issued in January 2005 which appears to describe my exact problem. I had been informed of several recalls by Chevrolet for other problems but had not received any notice of this particular issue and was unaware of the potential danger. The dealer indicated that the VIN number of my Suburban was not on the list of affected vehicles. I contacted general motors customer care (case #71-523372221) and they verified that my VIN number was not part of the population of Suburban covered by this action. This is a dangerous matter. If my wife had been driving or if I had been trying to avoid something in the road at high speed, there would have been an accident. I do not know if I just happened to receive an isolated defective pump or if the population of defective Suburban is larger than Chevrolet currently acknowledges. The pump was replaced.

Nhtsa recall campaign 05v005000 concerning a fractured driveshaft. This vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. But vehicle had trouble with the steering, making it difficult to control the vehicle.
Consumer placed the vehicle into the garage and transmission felt as if it slipped. The next day the vehicle would not go over 40 mph. Transmission had to be replaced at a cost to the consumer. The consumer's vehicle was not included in the driveshaft recall 05v005000.
I see where Chevrolet is recalling the surburban for a defective driveshaft. I have an early 2001 model and my driveshaft did cracked. I was stuck in san diego for two days for the dealer to get the new part. I was told by the service manager that this was very rare, thus hard to find the part. The mechanic told me that they could not find the part because this was so common and the other dealerships did not want to give up the part. First I am mad that I was lied to by the service manager, but I also wonder if the drive shaft probem is prevelent in the 2001 Suburban model as well. I would be interested in your research.

Abs system was activating due to defect in snap ring of transmission. The brakes would fail at slow speed causing the abs system to think the rear tires were sliding, therefore the abs system would work. The reason for this was the snap ring in the transmission was mispositioned causing the output shaft to have to much end play, therefore causing the vehicle speed sensor to lose signal, and the abs system would kick in everytime you stopped. The computer never logged that the abs system had ever been working, or had ever worked. After reassemble the transmission correctly everything appears to be working fine. This problem appear to have caused abnormal wear in the rear brake shoes, due to the fact that the abs was working all the time. After this wore out the shoes, the brakes started failing.

The truck has had a severe vibration in the front end since it was delivered I returned the vehicle to the delivering dealer with 845 miles on it for service. The vehicle stayed at the dealership for 11 days the drive shaft was removed and sent to be trued it was then reinstalled. The original factory tires were removed and replaced the front end was aligned. This same procedure has been repeated a 2 other dealers trying to correct the problem. Late in 1999 the truck was at day's Chevrolet and the service manager ben larue showed my husband a similar 1999 up on a lift that the torison bar support and assembly could be bent with a pair of vice grips the metal is inferior. The front end of the this vehicle has been braised at the torision bar assembly it has had the ends of the torison bars grounded down and returned to us as fixed. Chevorlet has just had their last repair attempt and they took the front end apart and packed with grease to correct the noise and vibration it did not work. We still here the noise in the front end it still vibrates at highway speeds and is very annoying. The transmission has slipped since the vehicle had about 8,000 miles on it every time we take it in we are told they cannot duplicate the problem. It still will slip at low speeds up a steep incline it will also roll when put in park. The brakes have always been an issue with this vehicle I reported this on the first time back for repair. The vehicle has leaked on the left side at the 2nd door and the rear doors. The vehicle has had a ticking vacuum noise since the day it was new the dealerships told us they know it is annoying but do not how to fix it. This vehicle is not safe it vibrates it will not stop and Chevrolet will not do a thing about it we have been through bbb and currently pursuing lemon law.
When vehicle is attempting to stop, the drive train sounds as if the rear end is banging into the transmission, transmission also does not shift smoothly. Dealer claims gm is noise but insist that there is no problem.
