Transmission failure - approximately 4 hours away from home, the transmission failed without warning. No warning lights or prior issue. We were stranded on the side of a major interstate for two hours awaiting a tow truck. After being towed to an independent service station, the mechanics discovered complete disintegration of the unit. There were no incident codes on the computer. A salvaged transmission was located and installed. Upon arriving back home, we had the dealer examine the vehicle which found no lingering issues. Once again, there were no incident codes on the computer.

My 2015 Suburban has 103000 miles on it and the transmission failed. It is going to cost $5300 to repair. It is just over the powertrain warranty so this will be out of our pocket. Suburbans have known transmission issues. We believe a $60,000 vehicle should last longer than 6 years and 100,000 miles.

Vehicle has had brake and transmission issues for 2 years now, culminating in complete transmission failure on 12/20/20.
I have had 2 Suburban in the last 5 years and the transmission failed right around 100k miles on both. They have a serious issue with it but have managed to get away with it as there has been no class action against it. My 2015 Suburban broke down around 96k miles and my 2016 Suburban at 101k. I'm sure if this is further researched then 90% of the these models must have reported the same problem around 100k. I'm looking forward to sue gm over this, as after spending over us$125000. 00 on making payments on 2 cars and don't have a car that I can trust for long trips, as it always happened when I was with my family on a long trip and had to spend thousands in making alternative arrangements to get home safely. Before my last trip, I sent my Suburban at the dealership for a 100k miles service at 99836 miles where I was in warranty where they checked and said everything looks fine for the trip and did a basic oil change with inspection but after a week of touring the transmission boke down at around 101250 miles. Where I had to shell out $6200 in total as the car went out of warranty in a week time. The break down is $4500 for repairs, $850 for shipping the car, $500 in car rental and hotel, $350 broken windshield in transit. Both of my cars have always been to dealership for the service and periodic maintenance but its their defected transmission that would never hold up. I'm looking for people who would want to make a class action lawsuit against this and bring justice to all owners. I have the VIN for both of my Suburban where one was bought used with only 8k miles on it with extended warranty and the other was brand new.
Transmission failure< 150,000 miles!! well maintained. Left us stranded on off ramp I-78. !!! cracked dash electrical problem. Check engine light.

I bought a brand new 2016 Suburban. In April of 2018, it had a brand new gm transmission installed. Now, in November of 2019, my mechanic says it has to have another new transmission. I own 4 different gm SUV's, 2 yukons and 2 Suburbans. One yukon is 2015, one Suburban and one yukon are 2016, and one Suburban is 2017. Each different gm vehicle has had to have at least one new transmission almost each year. . . And each new transmission fails after about 110k miles. . Slightly out of the reach of my warranty. This should not happen, and gm will not do anything about it.
Vehicle lost power due to transmission failure at 66,000 miles.
While traveling on the interstate 200 miles from home, the transmission catastrophically failed. Within 25 miles of the check engine light coming on, the vehicle would not move. Totally stranded in place in middle of highway. Needed to be towed to local dealership. Was diagnosed as failure of clutch plates in the transmission. This 2013 Suburban only had 90,456 miles on it. Dealer charged $4,260 to repair transmission. Gm customer assistance would provide no cost share.

Transmission failure. As I began accelerating from a stop, in order to make a left turn across opposing traffic lanes, I had a complete failure of forward momentum. The vehicle behind me narrowly missed a rear end accident and opposing traffic was forced to quickly stop as I was left blocking their traffic lane. Vehicle still under warranty with 25,122 miles. Dealer repaired transmission and identified "sprag gear found damaged . . . Clutches also burnt replaced as needed. . . ". Possible tsbs 08-07-30-027.

I have a 2001 chevy Suburban and this is the 5th. Transmission I have put in the vehicle. The transmission first failed at 15,339 miles and was repaired under warranty. At 50,525 miles it failed again and cost me $1802. 94 to fix. At 62,823 it failed again and a Chevrolet dealer in oklahoma repaired it,for $2279. 24, and gave it a one year warranty. 11 months and 10800 miles later it failed again. This time the chevy dealer in missouri wants $1600 to repair it and said the same exact parts did not fail so the one year warranty does not apply!!!!!!!! this vehicle is driven by my wife around town. All of a sudden you loose power.

Transmission failures in 1999 through 2002 Chevrolet tahoe's, Suburbans, and k1500 trucks. I have owned several Chevrolet vehicles. In my small circle of acquaintances, I have experienced what I believe to be too many transmission failures by the afore mentioned vehicles. My brother in law just had to have his k1500 transmission changed out. My brothers son had to have his 2001 k1500 transmission changed out at 60000 miles. My brother has had two transmissions changed out in his 2002 tahoe. And finally, today January 26, 2006, my wifes transmission in her 2001 Suburban with only 78000, never used to tow anything but a lawn mower trailer, just went out with several school kids on board on a very busy road with no shoulders. This could have turned into a bad situation. What is the deal?.
My 2002 Suburban had a transmission failure at 46091 miles that required me to purchase a new transmission at a cost of $3200. 00. We were almost in an accident because the vehicle stopped shifting while at highway speeds and barely made it safely to the shoulder. There was no warning or engine light and the transmission appeared fine although it was beyond repair. The fluid level was good and it was not burned. Chevrolet says there is nothing they can do as the warranty is for 3 years and 36000 miles.
January 1, 2006 just after leaving my home, I stopped at a stop sign and when I accelerated from a stop a loud clunk and then a constant whinning sound. I drove the vehicle home the one mile from the stop sign in first gear, the transmission would not shift to second, after returning home the car would not go into reverse either. Transmission failed at 104,000 miles. Repair shop says the transmission shell and other components of the transmission was cracked. The transmission shop states that they have had several customers that have experienced the same problem with this transmission. They would consider this to be a common problem with this type of transmission, a bad design according to the repair shop.
Transmission failure. . . Replaced transmission at 32000 miles and again at 61000 miles.
While driving the transmission failed. The vehicle was towed. The cost for a the transmission was $2,576. 18.
Sudden, without warning, transmission failure. No explanation given by dealer other than internal failure with recommendation to replace transmission. Only 45,000 miles and well maintained vehicle.
Re; problems with gm about defective transmission on 2001 chev Suburban. *bfthe transmission locking mechanism in the transmission failed which resulted in an accident.
During routine driving, the vehicle's wheels locked up and stopped forward progress. The vehicle was only going 20+- mph at the time. The transmission had failed. The vehicle was able to move in reverse but no other gear. I had noticed some slipping of the transmission but was not sure if that was in fact slipping. The transmission was changed at my local dealership.
Consumer stated every 43,000 miles transmission failed. As a result, consumer had to replace the part.
Transmission failure in 1999 k1500 Suburban with 49600 miles while towing 18 foot lightly loaded box trailer on level ground. Towing was in accordance with instructions in owners manual to tow in overdrive. Transmission failed 150 miles after starting tow. Subsequent checking over internet and with friends has revealed many others have experienced same type failure. Chev dealer states that there is no factory service bulletin concerning transmission failures. Failure appears to be do to excessive heat build up.

At 16000 miles the transmission failed. The vehicle was repaired under warranty but the same problem recurred while driving 50/55 mph. The consumer stated that the sun gear and planetary gear failed. The consumer was able to drive the car home in 1st and 2nd gear. The vehicle was not taken to dealership.
Front brakes wore out prematurely at 12,000 miles. Since 1997 had been replaced seven times. Dealer and manufacturer were contacted, but problem had not been resolved. Also, automatic transmission failure.

When driving at any speed vehicle lost acceleration, causing the driver to pull off the road. Consumer took vehicle to dealership, and mechanic determined that transmission failed.
The transmission failed twice.
Since new the vehicle has exhibited erratic shifting during acceleration. Often the vehicle accelerates briefly when brakes applied. Transmission failed while on vacation at 78,000 miles.
The transmission shifted very hard into 2nd gear. When I came to a stop and went to go the vehicle would not shift into second gear. It would prceed into third gear after the engine would rev up to a higher rpm. I contacted several transmission shops and a dealership. They all said that I lost the 2nd/4th gear intemediate shaft which also included the reverse gear also. This is on a 700r4 transmisson. They all said gm knew about the problem but would not do a recall on that model year because of the extenive use of that tranmission in all of their vehicles . They said that almost all of the transmission had the faulty intermediate shaft. This could cause a serious problem for some vehicle owners if the transmission failed at an inopportune time, especially in an emergency that they had to reverse quickly. I had the transmission replaced at a local shop at a very high expense. I thought I would submit this due to the amount of vehicles that used this transmissionin that year and for the safety of the owners.
The steering grabs when turning right, very dangerous. Transmission failed at same time. GMC has failed on this model .
Vehicle experienced a transmission failure due to a defective hub. Manufacturer notified , and informed consumer that nothing could be done due to vehicle being out of its warranty. Feel free to provide further details.

The second transmission is failing at 85,939 thousand miles, out of warranty. Is it normal for two tranmissions to fail at relatively low mileage. I don't think so. My Suburban is in fantastic condition. It is extremely well maintained and believe it or not like new. Now I have to spend another 2000 $ on top of just having the brakes done??.

Front brakes have been replaced three times, each time one of the calipers was reported to have frozen or stuck, so that only one front brake was working. The rear brakes were first reported to have a rearmain seal leak, but later found to never work. The transmission failed after only 29000 miles while the vehicle was being test driven by the mechanic checking the brakes.
