Fuel line leak caused by design flaw in which line plastic fuel feed line (gm part #84200271) is installed too close to the undercarriage, causing it to rub against the frame due to vibration and wear a pinhole. This is known by gm in service bulletin service bulletin 17-na-304. This is a fuel leak, that can causes significant fire danger to people, property, and nature. Eventually putting first responders at risk. Also the environmental risk of continuous leaking fuel. Luckily, I could smell it before anything bad happened. But if gm knows about this issue, it’s big enough they should do something about it and so should the NHTSA.

My vehicle was subject to a gm recall involving inspection of the 6. 2l engine. The recall inspection was completed by an authorized gm dealership at 58,581 miles. The vehicle was cleared as passing the recall criteria and returned to me. Within fewer than 10 miles after leaving the dealership following the recall inspection, at approximately 58,590 miles, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of propulsion while traveling at highway speed (approximately 65 mph) on a divided u. S. Highway while ascending an incline. The vehicle shifted into neutral and lost engine power without warning. Steering and braking remained functional, but the vehicle lost forward motive power in the left lane of traffic. Attempts to restart the engine resulted in a loud mechanical thud, and the engine would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealership. The engine is now being replaced. Prior to this incident, the vehicle had previously undergone an oil consumption test related to engine concerns before the recall campaign. This failure occurred shortly after the vehicle was inspected and cleared under the recall procedure. I am reporting this due to the sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed following recall inspection and the subsequent need for complete engine replacement.
The front of the fuel tank is hanging down and nearly dragging on the ground. This was with normal driving on a highway. No hitting bumps or aggressive off-road anything. We noticed when we heard a scraping noise going slowly over a slight incline in a driveway that it was hanging down.

I own a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban rst that has experienced ongoing mechanical and safety issues over several years. I first began reporting drivability concerns to general motors and the dealership in 2023 and continued contacting them throughout 2024 and 2025. During one dealership visit, a sales advisor rode in the vehicle with me and stated they did not observe any issues, despite my continued reports. The vehicle later suffered a loss of propulsion and required a full engine replacement. The radiator and cooling components were also replaced by a Chevrolet dealership. Due to ongoing concerns for my safety, I contacted general motors multiple times, requested an executive buyback, and asked about lemon law options. Gm advised that the engine had been replaced and that I needed to take ownership of the vehicle. After picking up the vehicle last Wednesday, I immediately noticed a persistent sweet coolant/radiator odor inside the cabin and outside the vehicle that continued for nearly a week. I also experienced engine hesitation/stuttering when stopped at traffic lights as the auto start/stop feature reengaged. I attempted to contact gm again regarding these concerns prior to today’s incident. Today, while driving, the vehicle displayed an engine overheating warning instructing me to turn the car off immediately. I safely pulled over and shut the vehicle down and am currently stranded roadside. Given the repeated failures, history of loss of propulsion, multiple repair attempts, denied buyback requests, persistent coolant odor, drivability issues, and now overheating shortly after engine and radiator replacement, I believe this vehicle presents an ongoing safety risk and request formal investigation.
The vehicle went into limp mode! everything associated with it happened so quickly,no brakes,no steering ,it was terrifying. We got safely to a gas station. We were advised to take it to a certified Chevrolet dealer which we did we had it towed to the certified Chevrolet dealer in charlevoix, michigan. They hooked it up to the diagnostics and said they found absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle. Very frustrating! after experiencing this terrible incident will never feel safe in this vehicle!.

I have a 2021 chevy Suburban with the l87 6. 2l v8 engine. At 7k miles, we have lost propulsion, leaving the car undrivable. Resulted in the dealer replacing all 16 lifters under a recognized bulletin. I never received extended 6yr 100k mile powertrain warranty as described in the bulletin. Since then, there have been 3 other issues with loss of propulsion, resulting in replacement of fuel pump modulator. Belt pulley system, one of the incidents left us without power or control of our vehicle on the interstate, with no where to pull over or get out of the way of oncoming semi trucks. The last incident again left the vehicle undriveable at 84k miles, with the dealer currently reporting that it is a lifter and cam shaft issue. Resulting in a 10k bill. They state that it is not covered under the recall of these engines because it is the top of the engine versus the bottom. Clearly, the engine oil problem noted in the recall has contributed to these issues . And the crankshaft not syncing properly with the lifters.
On Saturday, 11/29/25 @ 3pm, while driving on I-75 from GA to mia, our 2022 Suburban VIN: [xxx] sudden & unexpected had a mechanical failure. Without warning, vehicle stalled/ stop while traveling at highway speed, leaving us seconds to maneuver to the side. This failure created an extremely dangerous situation that could have resulted catastrophic or fatal accident for my family. Check engine light came on (code p102a). An officer stopped to assist & arranged car to be tow which we had to pay $135 to nearest Chevrolet dealership. Since the dealership was closed, I was forced to stay an additional night in a nearby hotel and paid $106. 46. The vehicle was inspected by countryside Chevrolet, who diagnosed the issue as a failure of the fuel pump control module however I was informed that this VIN was not covered under warranty or any special coverage, despite the fact that we experienced the exact same failure on our 2021 Chevrolet tahoe, which was covered under warranty for this same defect. I was forced to pay $708. 72 for the repair. This inconsistency is unacceptable—especially considering gms extensive history of complaints, recalls, & class action litigation involving defective fuel pump & fuel system components, which present a well-documented safety risk. I filed a complaint with gm customer care (case xxx). I submitted all required receipts for repairs, towing & hotel, however gm denied my claim without providing any explanation, only stating VIN was “not covered. ” also, gm refused to provide a written justification & my request for a manager callback was ignored. No consideration was given to the safety implications of this failure. This response is unacceptable & demonstrates a failure to take responsibility for a known safety defect. Demand: given the seriousness of this incident, the documented defect, & gm’s prior knowledge of same failures, I demand full refund of $950. 18 for expenses. This situation could have ended tragically. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia.
Replaced lifters 1,3,5,7 and added automatic fuel mgmt system bypass chip after the vehicle went into limp mode on the highway. Ran for less than 2000 miles and those same lifters failed a second time and had to be replaced again. The last incident occurred after about 200 miles and had engine failure, limp mode with multiple sensor failures in the middle of the road in the dark. Limited ability to move it safely off the road.
The vehicle caught on fire in our garage the vehicle had been parked outside than moved into the garage nothing smelled like smoke after it was parked other than the exhaust after I got out of my Suburban I have a good idea what caused this but until its done being ispected I happened to look back and saw a flame in the Suburban coming from the center area of the dash on the right hand side of the divers seat I thought for sure it was gonna blow up the dogs were in the back of the garage behind the vehicle off to the side I started screaming and calling for help and had to go around the house to the front door to get my husband and him and one of my sons went out there why I called 911 and was with my other son whom has a disability and they told us to get out of the house and I could not get back to the garage we were on the other side of the house going to go out on the patio my other son and husband were in the garage trying to put it out and getting to the two dogs my son went through the smoke to reach the dogs were one ran out on her own and the young german shorthair was in shock and he had to carry the 2 year old out and put them in a safe place but my husband was still trying to put out the fire he hooked his pick up to the Suburban to try to pull it out of the garage and it moved maybe a few inches he was stuffing wet towels on it also to try to stop it nothing worked the fire dept showed up and police after having to tear the inside of the front of the dash out our home owners insurance adjuster was out yesterday the Suburban has had multiple and thousands of dollars of mechanical issues even gm putting a new engine in it after only a year in a half of owning it fluid got pushed up into the wiring after a service last year there was splater inside the dash glass after a new steering wheel was istalled and I asked the dealer if they could fix that and they said that they didn't go inside there the amount of detail that has led up to this is huge.
Summary: sudden loss of engine power while driving due to lifter failure. Details: while driving my 2022 Chevrolet Suburban equipped with the 5. 3l v8 (rpo l84), the engine suddenly lost power without warning. The vehicle began misfiring and lost propulsion in traffic, creating a hazardous situation. I was unable to maintain normal speed and had to maneuver to safety while the truck rapidly lost power. The dealer later diagnosed the problem as a collapsed lifter/valvetrain failure — an issue that gm has already documented in service bulletins (pip5776g, 23-na-043) and a service update (n212353840). These bulletins show gm has long been aware of defective lifters in 5. 3l engines. This is not just a drivability concern. A sudden engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving poses a clear safety risk, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or towing. I maintained the vehicle properly and have all service records. I request NHTSA investigate these widespread lifter failures in gm’s 5. 3l v8 engines as a safety defect, since they can and do cause sudden loss of power in motion.
My 2021 Chevrolet Suburban stalled while driving in late September 2025 and had to be towed to a dealership. The vehicle is subject to an active fuel pump power control module safety recall that has been in effect since 2021. The vehicle was brought in specifically for repair of this issue. The work was processed under warranty, and I was charged a deductible. After learning the repair was directly related to an active safety recall, I requested reimbursement of the deductible, as recall repairs should be completed at no cost. That reimbursement request was denied. I have since been informed that the recall repair was never “completed,” and the recall still shows open in the manufacturer’s system. I am now experiencing shuddering and symptoms consistent with a potential stall recurrence. The original stall occurred while I was transporting my children, including special needs children who require regular transportation to school and therapies. The vehicle failure left us stranded at night in an unsafe area. Due to the prior stall, the unresolved recall status, and the recurrence of symptoms, I do not feel the vehicle is safe to operate. Thank you for your attention to this matter, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Engine light comes on and now flashes. The service traction control and esc comes on. The whole vehicle shakes when idling. Certified gm dealer hooked it up and it says misfiring cylinder 6. All spark plugs replaced, new gm coil, new spark plug wires. Nothing has fixed it yet.
I was standing at a red light with my foot on the brake and the car went into neutral and stalled. I could not restart the vehicle and had to be towed to the dealership where there confirmed a fuel pump module failure. There were no precipitating factors or warnings. This is extremely dangerous. The car is only 4 years old and many people have reported the same incident online, which often recurs, even after replacing the fuel pump. The dealership has ordered the part however it is on backorder without any estimated ship time. For a vehicle I paid over $70k for, this is concerning and frustrating. There is a known recall for 2021 Suburbans for this exact issue.
Driving vehicle on a highway at 55mph, tried to speed up, no propulsion. Fuel injector went bad.
Gas leak on top of tank from fuel line strong gas odor in vehicle.

My 2021 Chevrolet Suburban experienced a sudden no start condition which required the vehicle to be towed for repair. A diagnostic inspection determined that both the fuel pump and the fuel pump control module had failed. I paid out of pocket for the full repair, including replacement of both components. Several months later, gm issued a safety recall for the fuel pump control module on this vehicle. I submitted a reimbursement request to gm. Gm agreed to reimburse only the control module , but refused to reimburse the fuel pump, even though the pump failure was directly caused by the defective module that is now under recall. Federal recall reimbursement guidelines require manufacturers to reimburse the full cost of the remedy for the defect. In this case, the defective module caused the fuel pump to fail, making the pump replacement part of the necessary remedy. Gm’s refusal to reimburse the full repair cost leaves me paying for damage caused by the recalled component. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing gm’s refusal to reimburse the full repair cost associated with this recall related failure.
Driving down to florida, no warning, no lights, never any issues except a belt replacement. I get oil changes, tire rotation every 3500 miles. Almost got killed doing 75 miles per hour, engine sputtered, totally shut down. Coasted onto an exit ramp thank god it was right there or we could of been killed. Tow truck towed to davis chevy gainsville, they called me on Monday said good news I have a warranty bad news total engine failure, will take 3-4 weeks to replace. Now I am trying to find a gm rental large enough to get me and my family back to TN since gm said they will only pay for a gm rental car. Scary, could of gotten killed. No notice from gm about any possibe problems. . . . We almost got killed and crashed along with the other drivers on the road. Thank god it was a Sunday and 6 am so not much traffic or it would of been worst.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? fuel pump how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? yes, vehicle stopped unexpectedly and and wasn’t accelerating has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?no has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?no.
There is an electrical problem with driver side door harness which causes my car not to start causing me to have to keep replacing the fuel pump from malfunction of ground wires leading to the fuel pump and ecu from what I am told.

I was driving down the road at roughly 30 mph when my fuel tank dropped. The front fuel tank strap fell off and the bolt was gone. The fuel tank drug on the road, which prompted me to stop driving. There are scrapes on the front of the fuel tank and the strap was bent. This is a huge safety concern because had the fuel tank cracked or fell off completely this could have caused a fire. Had we been traveling at higher speeds, this could have been a very serious accident. The potential for gasoline or diesel to ignite was absolutely present. It could cause a fire or even an explosion, potentially injuring occupants and causing damage to the vehicle. I was travelling with my kids and mom, so the risk of injury to multiple people was present. The manufacturers only response so far is that it was not an open recall issue so it is not covered. No warning lights came on when this happened.

Engine lost power and stalled without warning while driving down the highway. Coasted to side of road and was unable to restart engine. After engine stopped, dash indicated low fuel, although tank was 3/4 full. After coming to a stop, was unable to shift out of park (which could have been a major issue if I had not been able to clear the highway before coming to a stop). Towed vehicle to closest Chevrolet dealer, who replaced the fuel pump control module. Dealer indicated that this is a common failure item to the point that they stock the part and suspected what the failure was based on my description. When pressed, the dealer representative also noted that gm has not updated or redesigned the factory installed fuel pump control module ("the new module installed is exactly the same as the one that failed"). Fortunately, traffic was light and I was able to pull to the side of road. This would be extremely dangerous if it happened while driving on a multi-lane expressway and we were trapped at a stop in heavy, fast moving traffic.
Out of the blue, while driving, my car started lurching and making a weird rattling noise. I was able to make it to a mechanic, where I learned the cylinder lifters collapsed and crankshaft were broken. The mechanic told me this is a common defect for gm motors. My vehicle is only five years old, so to learn we have a $10-20,000 repair on our hands was paralyzing and devastating.

The 2023 Suburban started shuttering on idle and loosing power on drive due to a misfire in bank 4, the fuel injector was changed, but the problem persisted. And now the dealer says that I need to change all 8 injectors. 2900 job on a car with 54000 miles. Crazy.
Various times while I was driving my 5 kids have I had an issue with the brakes and having to over compensate to pump brakes to get them to stop in time or at all. Very scary.
Car would not start. Towed into dealer for repair. This is the second time this has occurred, a well-known issue with gm trucks. On both occasions was a defective part, fuel pump power control module.
My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban with the 5. 3l v8 engine has experienced lifter failure twice within less than [20,000 miles]. Both times the vehicle developed a misfire, engine belt like noise and was diagnosed by the Chevrolet dealership as having collapsed afm/dfm lifters. All oil changes have been done at the dealership using gm-approved oil. The issue appears to be a known problem on 2021–2023 gm vehicles with the 5. 3l l84 engine. Gm has a technical service bulletin (pip5776h) regarding lifter collapse, but no permanent fix has been provided. I am concerned this could lead to engine failure or stalling while driving, creating a safety hazard.
Hi, my name is [xxx] . I have two major issues with my 2021 Chevrolet Suburban: the value body failed for the 2021 Suburban in December, causing engine power reduction and the engine transmission was not shifting properly. This was covered by my extended warranty, which I paid $2500 extra for at the time of purchase. Also, this VIN is for a chevy Suburban duramax diesel. The emissions control module ( ecm ) light has come on several times, starting from about 20k miles to now 61k miles. I noticed the ecm light comes on at about a 8k mile interval. I take it into the dealership and they have told me this is due to a software issue and then they reset the light. This has happened on at least 4 occasions since about 20k miles. However, now at 61k miles, they are telling me that the exhaust system has a leak and it may not be a covered repair under even my extended warranty. Basically, general motors has kicked the can down the road on the ecm issue until it is no longer under warranty, and now they want me to pay for this expensive repair. This is wrong, I hope you can protect me and other duramax owners from gm's unscrupulous business practices. You can reach me at [xxx] for more details. Thank you, I am considering legal action against gm for this issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Wife is rn at a trauma hospital going to work in the morning on a busy highway. While in front of hospital truck started to indicate to hit starter button. Truck was already running! wife stopped at red light. Truck stopped running would not start. Stuck in middle of morning rush hour traffic had to have truck towed to dealership. At the dealership they indicated they found metal parts in the oil pan. They indicated a further look into the engine indicated it was beyond repair and had to be replaced. Truck only had 42k miles on it. They stated they had another one same situation in the shop as well and that it would take several weeks to repair. I have learned that this is a major problem with this make and model and engine. Engine quit with no warning in middle of major highway. Thank god not in an intersection or freeway.
The fuel tank strap bolts became loose and fell out, causing the fuel tank to drop. The vehicle has the original fuel tank and to our understanding, it has never been removed. We purchased the vehicle new and are the only owners.
The fuel pump power control module (p129f, I believe) failed. I was in the carpool line when the engine sputtered then turned off, and would not turn back on. The engine light also came on. I had to walk my children the rest of the way, then got a tow truck. There were no dash light or other indications of a problem ahead of time. My local gm dealership was not able to get to me for multiple days, so I towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic informed me that there was already a recall on this part (recall number n212332040). I paid for the repair, and when I contacted gm, was told that my VIN was not included in this recall. I would like my VIN added to the recall and other vins with this same part that were not originally included in the recall.
The fitting on the fuel pressure regulator on the engine began to separate from the housing and started spraying fuel all over the firewall and the fuel ran down the firewall onto the exhaust pipes. No check engine light signaled. The only way I knew that it was spraying, was I started to smell raw fuel through the air conditioning vents. Luckily I was able to get it to a dealer before any fuel caught fire. The dealer repaired it but gm stuck me with half of the bill for the repair. I have pictures of the failed part if necessary. This is extremely dangerous to anyone that may not pay attention to car issues unless a check engine light comes on.
The active fuel management valves in cylinder 1,4,6&8 failed prematurely.

Car jerks with initial acceleration.
Fuel pump modulator, which has a recall for other vehicles for same part, malfunctioned which caused the vehicle to cut off while my son was driving on the highway without notice, where he had to avoid being hit while trying to make it to the shoulder for safety. The fuel pump module was tested by a service mechanic and was found to have corroded due to moisture. Prior to vehicle cutting off, there were no warning signals/signs, it just cut the vehicle off while driving on the highway.
