36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/22/2024

Started car, noticed check engine light on and rough idle. Car barely would go in reverse to exit parking spot, so I attempted to pull back in. Car would not move forward. Able to switch to neutral and push back into spot. Could have been a very dangerous situation if it had occurred while driving or with my children in tow. Car would not restart at that point. Failed fuel pump @ 50,000 miles.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

Fuel injectors are malfunctioning. Engine light has come on multiple times flashing and goes off. Took it to ernie lee's service center & told fuel injectors are not functioning properly. I will be glad to allow it to be inspected upon request because they all need to be replaced & told there's a bulletin out but universal Chevrolet told me it excludes 2017 Suburbans. . It started around 100,000 miles & I only have 125,000 miles on it.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/28/2024

Fuel injector failed and pumped too much gas into cylinder causing gas to get into engine oil and ruin engine. Gm claims they are building the replacement engine, but won't give any estimate of when it will be fixed. Other dealers that are receiving these engines will not sell the engine to my dealer. I believe there is a bigger problem that gm will not admit to and they should be held accountable. Four months is too long for this situation to exist!.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/23/2023

Vehicle stalled while driving in center lane on I-4 in orlando in traffic. There were no warnings prior to the vehicle stalling. When trying to restart it, the low fuel warning appeared along with the check engine light. I was unable to restart the vehicle leaving us stranded in the middle lane of I-4 in heavy traffic. Fl road rangers arrived to offer aid and had to manually place the vehicle in neutral under the vehicle at the transmission. Vehicle was then pushed off the highway onto the shoulder. Vehicle was towed to starling Chevrolet which was the closest Chevrolet dealer from the incident. Starling's service department had to replace the battery in order to run a diagnostic. Once the battery was replace, the diagnostic indicated that the issue is with the fuel pump power control module part no. 13544060 / 13554821. This part is on back order with no known availability time provided. Vehicle is still sitting at starling Chevrolet. Although my vehicle does not show any open recalls, I found that the fuel pump power control module for the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is part of a known product safety recall n212332040 stall while driving.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/06/2023

The fuel pump power control module caused the fuel pump to fail and resulted in unexpected engine stall. The issue cause me and my 4 children to be stuck in the middle of the road waiting for a tow truck for over 3 hours. The vehicle could only be put in neutral while the car was on. Since I couldn’t start my car I could not put it in neutral to move the vehicle out of 2 way traffic. We want the issue confirmed by the dealership but the police who aided me and my children inspected the vehicle and recommend getting the fuel pump look at. No warnings were displayed.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Fuel pump incident identified in recall n212332040. Nhtsa says our 2021 Suburban was not involved in the recall. But the incident happened 3 separate times. Our dealer made the repair under warranty.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/05/2023

While driving on the I-4 interstate on Saturday August 5, 2023 - my 2021 cheverolet surburban stalled as if it had no fuel (had 3/4 of a tank). I was barely able to get over to the shoulder across three lanes of traffic on an overpass before it completely shut off! the surburban would not start - when pressing the start button the ignition clicked for an extended period of time. We used on star to contact gm/chevy roadside support. They ran a remote diagnostic stating an issue with the fuel management system. I was told that this is a common problem with the fuel pump failure. I see there are open recalls for many other gm vehicles but not for my VIN currently. My surburban has 40,669 miles. We waited over 3 hours for the tow truck that was dispatched by gm/chevy. We were not in a safe location. Turns out my surburban cannot be placed in neutral without the vehicle being started, which means it had to be dragged on and off the tow bed. I had to pay $450 to have it towed to my my home town dealer as we were 90 miles from home. We were originally going to tow it to a local dealer when the surburban stalled but they told me not to as they are backed up and could even look at it for 9 days. I am now waiting on word from my dealer. Clearly the recall needs to be expanded based upon what we are finding online and from what everyone is telling us locally.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

Stopped at a stop sign. The vehicle suddenly lost all electrical power. Lights began flashing. Traction control system turned off and on. Then it went back to normal driving. I just had the chassis control module recall taken care of as well. The air conditioning is intermittently cutting its ability to cool then suddenly cooling again during this time. When the vehicle turned back on, the strong odor of fuel was present from the air vents. I had reported the issue before but was told by a dealer there is nothing wrong they could see beyond a visual inspection.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/21/2023

When ignition SUV, a gas leak starts coming out of the bottom of the gas tank strong smell of gas as well. Large amount of gas is seen. Lose of power when driving. Fuel feed hose is seems to be the problem. This may cause a fire or explosion. Putting in risk my family.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/27/2023

On 27 Feb 2023 the vehicle started as usual. After parking and letting the engine idle while I assisted my elderly mother into the car, the vehicle unexpectedly stopped running. Several attempts were made to restart the car, but it only sputtered for a few seconds as if it were out of fuel. I then called gm roadside assistance and the vehicle was towed to sandy sansing southern Chevrolet in foley alabama. My service advisor ronny advised me that this was a common failure of the fuel pump power control module, however, there is no current recall. Except I did find a recall for a similar issue for other gm vehicles (product safety recall n212332040 stall while driving) the dealership currently has 25 other vehicles awaiting a new module which could take up to 2 months.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/08/2023

My vehicle died unexpectedly in the middle of the road while backing out of my driveway with cars coming and going around me. It would not start up again nor could I put it in neutral to move it out of the way. I’ve learned my 2021 Suburban has a defective high pressure fuel modular. Also learned there is a parts shortage as well.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/01/2022

My wife called me and said she could smell gasoline in our 2015 Suburban. I went to the store she was located at and it smelled like raw gasoline. I called a tow truck company and to haul our Suburban to the shop. The fuel line has been rubbing against the vehicle frame and rubbed a hole in it. This is very dangerous as the fuel take and line is located right underneath my kids seats.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/25/2022

When I started up the vehicle with the key fab button I noticed the cabin air blower came on as normal however when we went to the cockpit we noticed the engine was not running. When we went to start the vehicle (holding break and pressing start button) the dashboard started the z71 launch sequence and then went to a dashboard as if I was in the normal drive mode however the dashboard was extremely dimly lit as if the backlight was not on and the engine still was not running. After several attempts to start using the brake+start button method we noticed a clicking sound that seemed to be coming from the engine cabin just in front of the passenger cabin however it would never ignite/start the engine. After several attempts to start the engine through the brake+button, we tried to just press the start button, which would sometimes be prompted on the dashboard, and get some feedback from the dashboard through better backlighting and messages I now cannot recall but never ignited the engine. When we tried again with the key fab x2 button (hoping it would either start or "cancel" the current vehicle state), we received no response from the vehicle. When we attempted to shift, it stated the "conditions were not met", which I perceived as the correct response. The vehicle was stuck in this "mode" with the air blower still running and exterior lights still on and it was only a matter of time until the battery ran out. When it ran out later that day (though not completely ded) in rebooted in the same tweener mode. However, when we came the next day with a tow truck and a fully dead battery in the Suburban, the vehicle booted right up as normal. The tow truck driver indicated several new tahoe drivers experiencing the same issue. To me, this is a software launch issue. While the vehicle was not perceived to be in danger, it left us stranded in what could be a dangerous location. Several episodes as reported by tow truck. Unsure if inspected. No symptoms before problem.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/18/2022

When pumping fuel the gas is bubbling up and pouring back out of the tank when it isn't full.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/11/2022

Leaking fuel line from pump to engine. Rubbed on frame and wore a hole in it.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/26/2022

We smelled gas inside and outside of the car. Upon inspection, I found gas leaking from the fuel line under the vehicle that comes from the fuel tank. This created a dangerous situation as noxious fumes were introduced to the cabin of the vehicle, and the leaking gas created a fire hazard. We took the vehicle to the dealer, and they confirmed that the frame rubbing on the fuel line created a dangerous leak. They confirmed this is a common problem for this model and a redesign of the replacement fuel line would prevent the problem in the future, but no recall has been issued. We paid $1180. 20 to have the fuel line replaced. No inspections other than the dealer and myself have been performed. No warning lights or messages indicated the problem.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/25/2022

While driving, I noticed a significant smell of gas coming from my 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. When I stopped the vehicle, it was even more noticeable. I pulled over and got out of the car only to notice gas pouring (not dripping, more gushing) from under the vehicle between the driver's side door and driver's side passenger door. I was concerned as I had my young child with me and had no way of having someone pick us up. I drove it directly to the mechanic in which they confirmed a leak coming from above the tank and that they would not be able to repair the leak until they dropped the tank. Once dropping the tank, they found a hole in the fuel supply line above the tank due to a poor design and friction from the poor design. There is a service bulletin, 17-na-304, but it does not protect owners from the cost of the repair. The repair cost was $425. 38 despite it being a known issue with gm. This design is incredibly dangerous. Not only is the raw fuel inhalation through the vents a health hazard, it could cause a catastrophic fire as well. I have four children, the reason why we needed to drive a Suburban. The devastation of the risk of this flaw is incredible. This needs to be considered a recall and the cost should be covered by the company, not the owner. I emailed gm's customer service and they stated that nothing could be done because the vehicle was out of warranty.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/04/2022

Fuel line running from fuel pump to engine rubs on the frame causing a leak in the fuel line.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/26/2021

The break vacuum pump is going out and making vehicle hard to stop and fuel pump or vacuum is leaking gas and smell inside vehicle.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/14/2021

Have had starter problems since we purchased the vehicle. Starter intermittently loudly grinds when pressed 2-3 times a week and won’t start. Dealership could repeat problem once, but never fixed it. Took vehicle in at least half a dozen times. Never fixed. Car also makes an odd humming when gas is applied. This week, car started and died after driving a foot. Then car wouldn’t start at all. Brakes stiffened up and wouldn’t compress without substantial effort. Everything resolved on its own within 30 minutes. But the very next day, pulled inti position in our alley to back our Suburban into the garage. Put car in reverse. While using the back up cam (that came on like normal when car is in reverse), I applied gas. The car didn’t respond at all (didn’t even rev like what happens when you apply gas while car is in neutral). I applied a touch more gas and car all of a sudden lurched forward with the full force of a v8 engine being floored. I tried to slam on the brakes, but the brakes wouldn’t respond in such a way that I thought my shoe must have gotten stuck. It hadn’t. The brakes did not work. I don’t know how long it would have taken to finally stop because we only had 5 feet to go before we slammed into our neighbor’s house (which is what stopped our vehicle). Car is not drivable and I wouldn’t drive it if it were. It is available for inspection. Will be towed once scheduled.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/22/2021

Due to a faulty design, the fuel feed line (gm part # 84200271) has been worn through from vibration resulting in a pin hole in the line at the point where the fuel line is seated in the molded-in clip retainer of the fuel tank. This wear has resulted in raw fuel pouring over the top of the fuel tank and producing a significant risk to life and health from fire and inhalation. The fumes from the raw fuel could be smelled through the a/c vents while driving highway speed (inhalation hazard). Once the vehicle is turned off the fuel leak subsides. However, while idling in park the fuel leak would puddle under the vehicle resulting in a significant and potentially catastrophic fire hazard. While researching the symptoms of my issue, I discovered many complaints of the exact symptoms and findings that I have discovered. I spoke over the phone with a service department employee of a local gm dealership who denied having addressed this issue on other vehicles similar to mine (2015 Suburban lt). I will bring the worn-through fuel feed line to this same dealership to inquire about possible mitigation for this known issue (see service bulletin 17-na-304). The symptoms that I first noticed were a hard start and the smell of raw fuel in and around the vehicle. No check engine light or other warning messages were displayed to alert me of this failure.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/23/2021

We had just completed a 1,000 mile trip for a family emergency. When we arrived at our destination, we found that somewhere during the last 500 miles of the trip, we had developed a fuel leak. After removing the fuel tank, my husband discovered a break in the fuel feed hose, as well as several worn spots in the line and on the top of the fuel tank. We were traveling in 100 degree weather, and I am just thankful at this point that the Suburban did not catch on fire!.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/07/2021

We experienced a massive fuel leak from the top of the fuel tank. The car was still able to run, but there was fuel draining all over the place around the bottom of the car. My wife drove the car with our four kids in it for about 50 miles before we knew what was going on.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/15/2021

I purchased this vehicle in Dec of 2019 used. 35,000 miles. Now has 88,000 and the transmission went out. Regular oil changes. No warning lights. No issues. Stopped running. After having someone look at it to see what the issue was, the mechanic said the entire transmission has to either be rebuilt or replaced.

1st: back ac/heater turns on by itself. Blows only hot air 2nd. Car engine sometimes is hard to start, or won't start, some times when turing on the ignition will get start as it was still powering on, and when turning off it won't turn off even if ignition is off. The speedometer/rpm will go to 0 while on freeway.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/13/2019

The cap less filler's automatic flap broke. We noticed this shortly after we bought the vehicle.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/28/2019

28 June took truck in for routine oil change and have cabin filter replaced @ 84k. Less than 24hrs later started driving on hwy and smelling strong odor of gas coming in through my vents thought maybe its exhaust from another vehicle. After parking the truck for a few days I got back in my truck late 3 July and smelled a strong odor of gasoline in the truck and along the outside. 4 July my husband looked under vehicle and took a picture. The smell of gas was not occurring prior to vehicle being serviced and as I keep reading online several other complaints have been filed for this exact thing. This is an extreme danger especially since I have 4 children and this is our daily vehicle. This vehicle could easily catch on fire or cause death due to inhalation. There should be a recall or safety advisory issued for both the 2015 Suburban and 2015 tahoe as this is a known issue . Chevrolet corporat has been notified case number 9-5347190370.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/22/2019

I recently experienced the conditions described by the gm recall 14515 in my 2009 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. In the past 6 weeks, the car has failed to start. The first incident required nearly 10 minutes of starting the car before it would start. Once started the car was fine. It was a cold start - first thing in the morning. About a month later it failed to start gain, after being parked for approximately 2 hours. Again, after about 10 minutes, the truck started and drove fine afterwards. Today - about 2 weeks after the 2nd incident, the truck stalled while my wife was at a stop light. It took 6-7 attempts to start before the truck again fired up and was able to be driven. This condition is exactly what is described in gm recall 14515. However, gm is saying that my vehicle (VIN: 1gnfk26319j107221) is not covered in the recall. I think that an error and disagree with how NHTSA and gm determined which cars are affected. . . . I am appalled that gm is able to get away with this.

This vehicle is unsafe as there appears to be a problem with fuel injectors which causes a sudden burst when stopping and a accelerates too quuckly when taking off both problems almost caused an accident. This has been happening since the vehicle was almost brand new. I have already taken to chevy and they admit there is a problem.
