Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 35 problems related to other fuel system pump (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Check engine light comes on due to intermittent high-pressure fuel pump leak. While gm has recalled some vehicles for this problem under recall sb-10057680-1621, bulletin, 14858. Gm is not covering the repair, even though the issues match the recall for similar model year vehicles. The light came on while the vehicle was driving.

2010 chevy Suburban. . . . . . Check engine light was on, went to the chevy dealer, it scanned as the fuel pump module part# 2087716 and also the abs, brake light, stabiltrak and traction control light come on and the vehicle loses power, this scanned as electonic brake control module. I had the fuel pump module replaced at the dealer and have found a recall bulletin for the year make and model with this exact problem. However this is VIN specific?? so I was not able to have this repaired under the gm recall no14515b .

I've had to replace my fuel pump 3 times in the last 6 years. I found out that there was a recall in 2005, but I bought my vehicle in 2011. The dealership will not honor the recall because it's not a open recall any longer.

2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4x4 flex fuel, 5. 3l. This vehicle's instrument cluster does not work. Tachometer pegs and sticks. The speedometer is stuck at zero. This is a very serious safety concern that general motors/gm should do a free recall for as many owners of this vehicle have the same problems. My abs sensor light comes on and off numerous times a day, and cluster states service air bag. General motors should also fix this for free under a recall as others have the same issue with this vehicle. My third major complaint, is the vehicle starting problem/hard start. It takes two turns of the engine for the vehicle to turn on and stay running. I have researched this on various search engines, forums, and including recall. Gov. General motors should address this issues as well under a recall. Gm installed faulty fuel pumps or fuel pumps with faulty components in them. A vehicle should start with one try. I should not have to get the fuel pressure going in the on position, or crank it twice for my truck to start.

In the process of replacing the fuel pump for the 3rd time. . First one was under warranty but the next 2 are on me. . Now my mechanic informed me of a newer design . . . Should have came out earlier.
Whether it's idling or driving shuts off I replaced the fuel pump and the wiring harnesses that come with the fuel pump and still no avail it's caused a lot of time off of work and a lot of headache I work for a reputable dealership I worked on vehicles for over 40 years.

The vehicle in question is a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The gas gauge read erratically and incorrectly for a number of months. Then the engine died immediately after I parked the vehicle one day and failed to restart. I determined that the fuel pump fuse had blown. A new fuse lasted 30 seconds before blowing in its turn. On removing the gas gauge sender/fuel pump assembly from the gasoline tank, I noticed that two of the wires were fused together. Separating the wires took some effort and revealed that the insulation on both wires had completely abraded where they contacted each other such that the bare wires inside touched each other and shorted out the circuit. The insulation on one of the wires had overheated and partially melted off the wire for a short distance (1/2 inch) from the point of contact. Replacement of the entire fuel pump/gas gauge sender solved the problem. Since the entire unit is located inside the gasoline tank of the vehicle, I am concerned that this short might have caused a spark that would ignite the gasoline in the gasoline tank. In the purple wire photo, one can see how the point of contact with the grey wire abraded the insulation down to the bare wire inside. In the grey wire photo, one can see both a comparable abrasion down to the bare wire and also partial melting of the wire insulation, to the point that additional bare wire showed. The metal wires do not appear to have melted or fused; only the insulation did that. But the insulation melting and fusion, as well as the two safety fuses that blew, argue that the abrasion of the insulation continued until the wires inside came into contact with each other. The entire unit is spring loaded such that it is in contact with both the top and the bottom of the gasoline tank. Since the tank flexes slightly in normal use, the wires flex as well, rubbing each other always.

Went to start my 2001 chevy Suburban and it wouldn't start. I listened for the fuel pump to engage and it wasn't working. I checked the relay and noticed it was melted on one corner. I have researched this online and found several complaints about the same problem. Also noticed that gm has done nothing to fix this issue. I have been a gm fan all my life and would like to continue being one. Please recall this on going problem gm.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was shifted into drive and the vehicle failed to move forward. The contact also stated that the brake warning light illuminated. On another occasion while driving at approximately 5 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The failure recurred multiple times. I have owned my 2001 chevy Suburban since January of 2008. I have replaced the fuel pump 3 times and today will be my 4th. I have spent thousands of dollars on the same part over and over. The last time it was replaced my mechanic advised us to keep at least 1/4 tank of gas in the tank which I have tried to do. But even doing this the fuel pump seems to go about every 15 months, just outside the warranty. Its ridiculous, there is no way I should be replacing fuel pumps at this rate.
My vehicle was manufactured with a defective fuel pump. I have had nothing but problems with the fuel gauge and delayed starts. I changed the pump and noticed the original pump was missing a spring on one of the push rods. The wear and tear made the pump hang. I have the pump and photos to deliver. This pump is a flex fuel pump. There are so many posts on this delayed start issue. I have recently posted the cause of my issue. I noticed the defect immediately because I performed the repair and not the dealer. They were quick to offer me a quote for over a thousand dollars to replace a defective part.
The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact was driving 70 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road but was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic stated that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The contact did not call the manufacturer. The contact had the fuel pump replaced two months prior to the recent failure. The failure mileage was 201,000.
We went on a fishing trip from wilson, nc to new port news. I drove all the way there with no problem. We arrived at the james river bridge and my truck cut off. It crunk up and rolled a little then died again. It took me 25 minutes to park. I had to wait until it decided to stay on. We fished then we left the next morning. My truck drove good with no problem. It normally takes us 2 hrs. To get back home. My truck stared cutting off again when we got 40 miles from home. It took 4 1/2 hrs. To get home from 40 miles away. It was so hot. My family had to wait along a hot, long, lonely highway. It started cutting off more. I had the fuel pump changed and also the filter. It hasn't cut off today but the engine light has come back on. It's been 3 days since those parts was replaced. I don't know why my service engine light is back on. It was off before it started cutting off. Now it stays on and never goes off.
During normal operations under normal driving conditions the following occurred. Loss of engine at speeds of 60+ mph after driving one hour. Engine restarted with in two minutes. Problem occurred multiple times with shorter run times between each attempt. Over a three year time frame vehicle has required four fuel pumps all from different manufactures to eliminate the possibility of any compromised product batches. Total consumer cost. $3000.
My 2002 chevy Suburban has intermittent but increasingly more frequent and longer duration starting problems. My research tells me that it is exhibiting the exact same symptoms as the 2000 and 2001 Suburban models that were under a 2005 fuel pump harness recall. After nearly 4 months of dealing with this problem, researching it, and trying to convince both my local mechanic and the dealership to replace the pump, my Suburban finally failed to start at all today. Tomorrow my local mechanic is going to replace the fuel pump and relay. I am angry to discover that the 2001 and 2000 models were under recall for this very same issue, but the 2002 models were not included in the recall and the dealership -- courtesy Chevrolet in san diego -- despite 3 recent visits there with this problem, failed to mention this recall of those earlier year models. They failed to even recognize that this could be a problem with my Suburban. They won't do anything unless a computer diagnosed code tells them what to do. My symptoms are the same and I'm realizing now how fortunate I am that this car did not die on me in the middle of one of the many interstate highways in san diego county. I'm also fortunate that my car did not catch on fire! I'm asking you to look into how many 2002 Suburbans have the same fuel pump and fuel pump harness issues as the 2000 and 2001 models. The date listed below is the first day the car acted up. It has been ongoing progressively since then.

Safety concern - no accident - 99 chevy Suburban fuel pump failure. I change the pump. When I looked at the old pump I noticed the hot wire to the fuel pump inside the fuel tank had insulation melted near the top connection. I disassembled the connection and found it had been arcing inside the fuel tank. I have the fuel pump is you want to see it. 9note: I sent a note to gm on the matter and only received a form letter e-mail in response).
1. Driving down the highway at 65 mph. 2. Fuel pump failed. Sudden power failure. My wife was drving and had a difficult time controlling the large vehicle and safely bringing it to a stop. 3. Replaced the fuel pump.
Driving at highway speeds, car engine died immediately after sputtering and losing power. First time this happened, I pulled off the road and restarted the car almost immediately. Drove another 600 miles without incident. Second time, car died again at highway speeds. Restarted after 15 minutes. After reporting the problem to on-star and having remote diagnostics run, I drove another 25 miles towards dealership rather than waiting for tow. (118 deg heat in desert sun). Engine failed again about 200 yds from dealership. Dealer replaced fuel pump, pressure regulator, and filter. Cropper auto group in casa grande, az, kept the defective parts. I have had problems before with fuel level sensor indicating properly on this vehicle. This repair also replaced fuel level sending unit. $800+ repair. 60,000 miles on the car. Extremely hazardous loss of power and control when engine dies without warning at highway speeds. Noticed at least 5 identical complaints on NHTSA website: oid id numbers 10041486, 10079660, 10099685, 10100051, 10126511.
I had my chev. Suburban 1500, yr. 2001 in for the 60,000 mi. Service and a new fuel filter was replaced according to the needs. I had problems right away with fuel being below 1/4 tank. It was stalling out. No low on fuel light came on, but the service engine soon light did. That was at 1/8 of a tank. It felt like I was going to run out of gas. I reported it immediately to the oil can henrey's were the service was preformed. They manager gave me a fuel additive. Didn't work. If I got to 1/4 tank it would do the same thing. It was recommended to me that I have a diagnostic check at the dealer. They replaced the filter and siad it was a defect. The problem is still present, it has been 7 months, 2 fuel filters, 2 sensors, and I still have a problem. I have to take it back again, and I took in the recall sheet that is still under investigation on my make and model. And also the last time I was not able to fill my whole tank. It would only take about 18 gal. And shut off. All the symptoms are what is discribed in your investigation. Please contact me.
Significant fuel leak from gas tank of 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. Will leak at approx. 1/2 gal per hour. Will leak when running at idle, running at speed, and stopped, engine off. Please take note - the vehicle would still run with the fuel tank leaking significantly. No error message was displayed in the vehicle message display. No fire occurred, but with close proximity to exhaust system, risk for fire would appear to be extreme. Delivered vehicle to dealer to inspect. Upon pressure test, dealer found leak at top of tank in pass-through connector. Leak was occurring because wire inside tank (fuel pump lead) melted, and created hole in pass through connector. Entire internal tank fuel pump and fuel level sender assembly replaced. Dealer technician reported he had seen this before, but usually the vehicle would not run, or a check engine light would be displayed. This vehicle would run, and did not display any message in the vehicle message display. Dealer would not acknowledge a recall in their systems or support a safety issue search. Gm would not acknowledge any recall or safety issue concern during calls placed on 5-13-2005. Gm service request was submitted by owner via phone - open service requst #1-335303835. Cost to repair was $996. 38us, all paid by owner. Owner (me) has all receipts and defective parts. Failed wire lead on internal pump is visibly melted. Cannot confirm replacement part (gm # 25315983) is not also defective, and may also lead to reoccurence of the same problem - melted wire, gas leak, potential fire or explosion.
The consumer's vehicle engine is stalling, and the fuel pump was just replaced from overheating . Now, heard about the recall from gm. Bought in 2001 and had problems since the vehicle was bought. When stopped at a stop sign the vehicle completely stalled out, this has happened numerous times.
2001 Chevrolet Suburban would not start after sitting approximately three hours after driving it a distance of approximately one mile. Vehicle had to be towed to local Chevrolet dealership after hours so the vehicle was not looked at for about two days. When I call ed the service writer to inquire about the vehicle he stated it was still parked outside. When I asked what the problem may be he stated, "probably the fuel pump. " the vehicle had not even been looked at by a mechanic when the initial diagnosis was made. It turned out to be a very expensive repair for a fuel pump replacement.
While driving on the interstate at 70 mph, the car suddenly died. Luckily we were going down a hill and no other cars nearby, so we coasted to the shoulder. Car would not crank - it was completely dead. It was towed to dealership. They said a fuse was blown which caused the problem. They did not know why the fuse was blown. They gave us several extra fuses in case it happened again. We were on our way home from vacation, so we took the extra fuses and finished the trip home. A couple days later the car would not crank. We took it to the local dealer, who found that the fuel pump was causing the fuse to blow. We had to pay over $800 to replace the fuel pump. We are hoping that gm will re-imburse us, since this sounds similar to the recall. They say that even though we've had to pay for the problem, we cannot file any paperwork until November. So it'll be at least until then before we get any money back, if at all. In the meantime, it sounds like the new fuel pump is susceptible to the same problem.
The fuel injection pump has failed again on my 1997 chevy Suburban, 6. 5 liter diesel engine. I have owned this car for two years. The vehicle history from my dealership shows this will be the 6th fuel injection pump to be installed on this vehicle, all of which are covered by gm's 120,000 factory warranty & a 12 month 12,000 mile service guarantee after the 5th pump was installed. August of 2003, the pump failed while driving in my neighborhood & was replaced when the mileage was at 116,503, under factory warranty. June 27, 2004, and mileage of 128,300 (11,800 miles later) the pump has failed again. The pump failed on a very busy & dark street at nighttime on a bend in the road as I was driving home with my wife & two kids in the car. When it failed the engine died and we were stuck in traffic. The car is black and it was dark, unable to move, we were almost rear ended by several cars coming up the hill and rounding the bend in the road. Eventually I was able to get the car started and it ran just enough to allow me to get the car out of harm's way before dying again. I then had it towed to the dealership that had performed the last fuel injection pump. At this point, it is still in the shop and the service writer told me that injection pump had gone bad and that he is currently waiting for warranty approval for replacement as well as the new pump itself to arrive. I have spoken to many owners of chevy and GMC trucks and Suburbans with the 6. . Read more...

Fuel pump wires overheat when the weather is warm. As a result the vehicle becomes inoperative.
1997 Chevrolet Suburban fuel tank safety concerns electric fuel pump failure, wiring harness inside tank melted per certified mechanics at motor car mall, peralta, nm is there no circuit protection?.
Per the dealer repairman the fuel pump/assembly above fuel tank "cracked" causing large loss of fuel directly under the vehicle. The car without warning would not start after being filled with gasoline. After several attempts to get the engine to turn over, I stepped out of the vehicle into a large fuel spill. I quickly removed 4 small children from their car seats and evacuated the vehicle. The fire department had to come to secure the area and prevent ignition of the fuel spill. This is a serious defect that needs to be addressed which luckily did not cause harm/loss of life.
Gasoline leaked from tank upon filling. I had vehicle serviced and dealer found that insulation had melted on wires on fuel pump internal to fuel tank. Was advised to keep at least 1/4 full to prevent the problem. Both the leak and melted wires imply a safety problem.
Fuel pump wiring inside the fuel tank short circuited, and could have caused my Suburban to blow up, since I had just filled it with over 30 gallons of gas that morning. My fuel pump had to be replaced, along with a new wiring assembly and float mechanism. My mechanic said the short circuit was more than likely due to over amperage of the fuel pump. That in turn, caused the wires inside the fuel tank to melt together and short out the ecm fuse, twice. I believe Chevrolet is very lucky that no one was hurt. I hope others are as lucky as I was! p. S. Power steering and brakes are also very poor!! bad design. . . 1997 was a lemon Suburban, and should have been recalled and designed all over again!.
