Chevrolet Suburban owners have reported 4 problems related to other fuel system tank mounting (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fuel pump may falter or fail; fuel pump relay was non-functional, replaced it; other fuses passed testing with meter; vehicle started, would not run more than a few minutes. New fuel filter. Guy at service station banged on gas tank, and it would start then run great for a minute, then will not restart. Ordering a replacement fuel pump. Bought this vehicle in 2005 about the time of gm recall 05027. In doing online trouble-shooting today, I discovered the 2001 gm recall 05027. Have had this problem several times. Fuel filter was last changed in July 2009. Complete failure when in motion, backing out of service station onto main street (us 64 bus), just inches from lane of travel (6. 14. 19). What could be worse than fuel pump failure at a busy intersection during lunch hour? grateful it didn't catch fire, or get hit. As the service attendant tried to restart it, over and over, the relay in the ecu may have failed at that time. In the interim, my husband died. I replaced relay/fuses today 9/14/19, and vehicle started, but would not stay running. Another mechanic banged on fuel tank, it ran for a while, so he advised replacing pump, which is not rocket science after viewing youtube how-to videos. With the pump failing sporadically, and responding to the vibration of being banged, it seems like faulty wiring or connection problem, or that something is loose or not fully seated anymore. Lots of folks say the chevy 1500 is widely known for fuel supply problems. Gas gauge has not been accurate ever. When full, it may show empty when turning or hitting a slight bump in the road. (track by computing mpg and mileage, to determine range). In short distances, it swings full-> empty->full. Wiring diagram shows tiny fuse labeled prime, none there. Abs indicator lights up because sensor cable at right front tire may fail on left turn, or hard right turn, yet brakes are fine.

I felt a shutter time to time at start up, and would feel like the wheel would grip on hard turns backing up, was like this for a couple of days. Filled tank & drove out of town, at destination noticed leakage under car, under drive seat. Thought it might be condensation. Vehicle sat for 2 hrs. , no leakage visible at start up, after starting vehicle notice leakage began again and this time at a larger volume, could smell the fuel. Called dealership they picked it up on tow truck, when back end was lifted, a significant amount poured out from under car. Was told that the fuel hose/fuel pump has the cause due to rubbing. First 3 weeks was told part was on backorder, then that it was going to become a recall and that the part needed to be redesigned and that there was no immediate time frame for vehicle return. I have been driving a dealership loaner for 2 months now. Dealership asked if they can "craft" a patch to get my vehicle out of the shop. I denied this, considering I don't know what the legalities will be. Very disappointed in chevy, this is my 3rd Suburban/tahoe and I'm considering filing lemon law.

I purchased this Suburban new in 2003. In may of 20011, I suddenly had no brakes when backing up and going forward in parking lot after driving from home to store. Took the Suburban to olympia, washington Chevrolet dealer who said cause of the brake failure was due to rusting of brake lines that were leaking and recommended replacing all brake lines. In the previous weeks, I had driven the Suburban on mountain roads in national forests in the area that were unpaved and had steep inclines, was lucky not to have had a failure on those roads or on paved highway at high speeds on the trip home. All break lines were replaced. This requuired removal of the fuel tank. A few weeks later the service engine check light came on I took the Suburban back to the dealer who determined that the problem was the front fuel tank vent that was also rusted and was not functioning properly. This required replacing the fuel tank since the vent was not sold separately!! the new tank with vent cost $829 dollars bringing the total cost over $3,000 dollars. Note, I also purchased a 2003 Honda accord new, which I still have, and have driven it for over 70,000 miles and in the same environment as the 2003 Suburban, and it has no signs of rust on the brake lines or fuel lines. This seems to be a common problem with Suburbans of other model years and it is a life endangering failure. I feel I should be compensated by Chevrolet for these repairs and a recall issued all Suburbans to check for this rusting of the brake and fuel lines to avoid loss of brakes that could cause an accident and loss of life.

The fuel line that is on top of the gas tank rotted through. The brake and transmission lines rotted and leaked. The chassis is rotting in different places I have less than 77,000 miles on it since I bought new. I have a 1969 malibu that I've had since it was new and I keep it outside in all kinds of weather and not one part of the chassis is rotted. I don't know what kind of steel they use now to build these cars and trucks, but it should be unacceptable. I don't know the exact dates these things happened, but I do have all the repair bills for them. When the brake line rotted through I was going to the store and when I came to a yield sign the brake pedal whet to the floor. It's a good thing it happened then, because I live on a mountain and we have a road called breakneck and it is a 25% grade. It was raining the day that this happened and all I had was a little bit of foot brake and the emergency brake. I surely would have had a bad accident if I made it to that hill.
