38 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/02/2023

My car shut off two times while driving. When you google the issue, it auto populates meaning that this is a very common issue with gm. It starts back to 2015 searches as well. Gm needs to recall their Suburbans for their cars turning off while driving which caused me to lose power steering, power brakes and anything that requires electrical.

40 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/15/2023

Braking is diminished when vehicle is moving at slow speed and brake pedal is pressed. The vehicle brake assist engages by pulsing, increasing the braking distance by not stopping the vehicle no matter how hard the brake pedal is pushed. Emergency brake is used to prevent vehicle from colliding. This may be related to NHTSA 19v645.

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

My rear left tire locks when I’m doing sharp turns and I don’t see any traction control lights come on when that happens.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/16/2023

The vehicle was idle for about 4 months. I took it to a carwash to clean the dust off. Upon returning (abt a 2 mile trip) the brakes failed and steam was coming out from under the hood. I opened the hood and brake fluid was sprayed all over the driver's side of the engine and wheel well. A brake line had rusted through and burst. Fortunately, I made it home carefully because I had noticed the brakes were soft.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/05/2023

Brakes become really hard.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/03/2023

The brakes will sometimes not work properly. When the brake pedal is pressed when parking or coming to a stop, it takes longer for the vehicle to stop. The brake pedal will also vibrate when coming to a stop and "roll" to a stop. We have had our brakes checked twice in the last 3 months at the Chevrolet dealership and they say the brakes are fine. We now had an incident where we were parking in a parking garage and nearly hit the wall in front of us because the brakes did not stop the car properly. We had the vehicle towed to the dealership to have the brakes checked again (February 3rd, 2023). We were afraid to drive it ourselves on the freeway. Since it is the weekend, we have to wait until Monday (2/6/2023) for them to check our vehicle. We are going to let the dealership know what we have found online with the "recall" of certain 2017 Chevrolet Suburbans about a defect in the brake assist and power brake vacuum pump. This has been an ongoing issue we've had since we purchased the vehicle (new purchase in 2017), but it has progressively gotten worse.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/05/2023

I have a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban that had an issue with the brakes not wanting to stop the vehicle at slow speeds. Several times when we pulled into our garage or a parking space the vehicle would want to glide instead of stopping. I've had several parts replaced and am now hoping the problem is fixed. Just picked the car up today from repair shop.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

Brakes failed and became hard to press down on it and would not stop vehicle.

48 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/07/2022

Antilock brake system makes it hard to press brakes mostly traveling at lower speed like when I’m parking. Previously had it reprogrammed because of a recall but it continues to have this issue periodically. Now I’m being told I need to replace to brake vacuum?.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

50 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/21/2022

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph and slowing to park the vehicle at his residence driveway, the brakes failed to function and the vehicle rolled into a large plastic refuse bin. There was minor damage to front left side of the bumper. The contact stated that he buffed out the damage. The contact stated that he did not feel the normal pressure from the brake pedal. The contact placed the vehicle into reverse (r) to back away from the refuse bin and again the brakes failed to function. The contact stated that the "brake assist" light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer, it was not diagnosed. The contact stated he replaced all four brake pads on his vehicle. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 56,027.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/14/2022

With cruise control activated, at least 10 times since I bought this expensive vehicle the automated emergency braking activated at highway speeds - causing the vehicle to full brake without warning and nearly causing an accident each time (handling risk and risk of being impacted from behind by a following vehicle). I have formally reported this issue to dealers in mn and mt, and they only thing they said was they could not duplicate the condition during brief test rides and this was not a know problem. I personally know this was a known problem and gm did a safety recall for this condition on my15-20 Suburbans. This condition is definitely an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. In additional, the original tires supplied by gm (firestone) failed under normal driving conditions after only about 35,000 miles, and both gm and firestone denied there was any warranty coverage. Since then, new les schwab tires failed at about the same mileage. Something is obviously not right with this vehicle, and this condition is also an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. Finally, last week my front passenger wheel cracked. I have not hit anything significantly hard with that wheel - but it is nonetheless cracked. This is also obviously defective and an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety.

52 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

My car was acting weird, brake pedal was extremely tough to decompress, speed then was affected, and ultimately the brakes failed.

53 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/30/2022

Issue with power braking system. Has longer than normal stopping distance when braking. Hissing noise coming from power brake pump under the hood. Loses air pressure in brakes very easily. We are afraid to drive this vehicle because this will eventually cause a crash. Mechanic stated this is a known issue with these vehicles of this year/make/model and was on the recall list. This is a known issue that shows reports online my vehicle has issues/recalls on but for some reason my VIN isn't showing the recall. There is no warning message lit up on the dashboard. Mechanic was able to check the obd computer to pull a code of (c0299-00). I have reached out to a Chevrolet dealership who is supposed to be looking into this for me but I wanted to reach out to you guys as well.

54 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

We were traveling approximately 30 mph approaching an intersection of a 5 lane road. A vehicle in front t of us had pulled into the turn lane. As we approached the vehicle that was already completely in the other lane, our car suddenly braked to a complete stop even though my foot was only on the accelerator as it is a 40 mph speed zone.

55 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

Hard breaking at slow speeds. Risk of accident to pedestrian and to vehicle and to structure. This problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealer. This problem has not been inspected by manufacturer or police or insurance no warning lights prior to problem. .

56 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/18/2022

I was driving on the freeway about 65 mph on Saturday June 18. In a sudden instant, there was a message on my dash "brake module failure" and "speed limited to 62 mph". Also warning message that "forward collision warning was off" , etc. The abs light, the "check brakes light", and the check engine light all were on. Also, the power brakes went completely out and to stop I had to press really hard with manual brakes. I don't think a small framed person would have been able to stop and if I had been at a moment where I needed to stop quickly I don't think I would have been able to stop had there been a need to stop quickly. The dealer tells me that the brake master cylinder failed. The car has 43,000 miles and has been well maintained.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/06/2022

When I’m parking the car back and forth brake gets very hard to press and hard to stop and also after turning off trying to start but having hard time because of the brake is not applicable I have to press very hard these are the problems I have thank you.

58 Service Brakes problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact initially stated that while in reverse(r), the brake pedal became firm as the brake assist message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact stated that she had to stand on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle while in reverse(r). The contact then stated that the failure would occur while driving at various speed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where the mechanic was eventually able to duplicate the failure. The contact had the vacuum pump replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where she was then informed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to pay a portion towards the cost of the repair. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic) which she linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.

59 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/20/2022

Brakes became very hard to apply and the car could not stop quickly. Needed to replace the vacuum booster pump.

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/15/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while driving at various speeds, the trailer brake system warning light intermittently illuminated and made a beeping sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic brake control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was advised to call the NHTSA hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

61 Service Brakes problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

While driving, I received a notice identifying a problem with the esc system and that there was a brake system failure. I have received an advanced diagnostics alert about the antilock braking system. The vehicle was difficult to stop and required excessive pressure on the brake pedal.

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

Power brake failure as described in NHTSA 19v645 and 20v603. The problem and solution is identified by Chevrolet special coverage bulletin n182202780-01 (October 11, 2019): brake assist decrease due to vacuum loss. Dealer concord Chevrolet (CA) would not recognize the special coverage bulletin or fix the problem. Chevrolet was notified and has not agreed to repair (case#9-8126430790).

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/02/2022

The vacuum levels have dropped, causing a huge increase in braking effort. I could be rolling backwards in reverse and have the brake pedal all the way on the floor with all my strength and my car will still be rolling and eventually come to a stop. This is very unsafe and dangerous for me and also for others because it could cause me to roll into someone else’s vehicle. There has been a recall on this issue but I do not believe my car was serviced for it and it is no longer on the recall list. This is something that can be inspected at anytime seeing as it is only getting worse. Another issue I am now having is my transmission is kicking when going in and out of reverse, it won’t shift out of second and my transmission is now having to be rebuilt. I have no service lights on, no warnings and this was very sudden and out of no where.

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/30/2022

Total brake failure without warning, dtc, or messages. Coming out of a parking lot applied the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor and was not able to stop. I tried pumping the brakes which pedal to return to the correct position but went back down to the floor. Had the vehicle towed to the dealer which confirmed the truck needed a new master cylinder, brake booster, and vacuum pump.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/25/2022

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle had previously been serviced under NHTSA campaign numbers: 19v761000 (service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes, electronic stability control) and 19v645000 (service brakes, hydraulic) at the dealer; however, the failure recurred after the recalls were repaired with a stiff brake pedal and increased braking effort while driving. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went over a curve and the front passenger's side crashed into a tree, then came to a complete stop in a ditch. There were no air bags deployed. The contact's wife sustained neck and back injuries but did not receive medical attention. The vehicle was towed to coughlin Hyundai (2300 hebron rd, heath, OH 43056) where it remained and was not repaired. The vehicle was not deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. Prior to the failure, the contact was receiving notifications from onstar that NHTSA campaign number: 19v761000 (service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes, electronic stability control) was unrepaired. The failure mileage was 111,572.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/24/2022

I noticed when driving in parking lots or at low speeds the brakes seem like you have to put more force to get the vehicle to stop.

67 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/08/2022

The vehicle component of concern is the braking system. The brake pedal has to be pressed at an unusual rate of pressure to engage the brake system. More concerning is, on several occasions the brakes seem to fail, initiating the abs system while in fast food lines. This has also occurred while backing up causing the pedal to be jammed to the floor to stop the vehicle. The excessive need for pressure while braking was supposed to be fixed in 2021 by a "simple" recall that simply updated the computer. I had this recall performed, but still have the same braking issues in my 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. I feel that this is a very serious concern and should be addressed. The difference is truly night and day between my wife's vehicle and mine. The braking issue comes with no warnings or alarms. I have had my brakes checked on several occasions to confirm normal brake wear and longevity.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/05/2022

When rolling in a parking lot or trying to park and not pushing the gas: when you try to stop or slow down and push the break it just goes to the floor and the car continues to roll forward. You have to immediately throw the SUV from drive to park in order to get it to stop moving or it would literally roll into whatever you were trying to stop for. Pulling out of parking lots or up to stop signs, it will do it then too. Anytime you rolling and then having to stop suddenly. But it doesn’t happen all the time. That’s the scary part.

69 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/28/2022

At low speeds the brakes slip causing the vehicle to glide and not stop in the forward and reverse position. Almost hit pedestrian and other vehicles. This was reproduced by my auto technician. No warning lights on dash.

70 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/28/2022

The electronic brake control computer has malfunctioned. This renders the abs and traction control systems inoperable. No replacement part or repair is available from the dealership.
