Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Vacuum pump for a brake booster failure.

15 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

Vehicle is 2015 Chevrolet Suburban purchased new in December 2015. Build date was July 2015. Current mileage ~51,000. Vehicle condition = pampered. There are no warning lamps illuminated now or at time of incident. At low speeds (~10 mph), brake pedal can become excessively firm, and even with extreme pressure applied, brakes fail to stop the vehicle effectively. I am 6'3" and 220lbs, and yesterday, it took all my effort to keep vehicle from rolling into vehicle in front of me while idling thru drive thru. I'm rarely scared driving a vehicle, but this was scary. If a pedestrian would have walked in front on the vehicle, I would not have been able to stop. Pushing with my maximum effort, Suburban took several feet to stop from an idle crawl speed. When this occurs, pedal feels "hard" and has almost no stroke. Hard pedal / compromised brakes lasted ~4 minutes before condition "corrected" itself. This occurred 4/19/2019. I've driven vehicles without power brakes (by design). Effort required to stop Suburban with this condition is multiple times higher than those vehicles. Is gm doing anything about this brake system failure? at parking lot speeds where this occurs, someone could be killed due to this failure.

16 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/07/2019

On at least 5 occasions the brakes have failed to provide the necessary stopping power. When inching forward after a complete stop, I would apply pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal would immediately lose pressure and sink to the floor. I would have to apply additional pressure to the pedal in order to stop from hitting the vehicle in front of me. It would also feel like the abs system would kick in and would pulsate. If I immediately depress the brake pedal and press it again in quick succession the pedal regains pressure but does not regain normal brake functionality.

17 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/16/2019

The brakes have lost braking pressure three times. After first incident, the brakes were checked and there was no issue found. This occurred on the interstate in moderate speed stop and go traffic. I could have rear ended someone but I was able to pull onto the shoulder of the highway. The second time I had to move my car from one space to another. The car would not stop and I nearly struck a house. Again the brakes were determined to be fine. The third time, I was attempting to park my vehicle when the brakes failed to stop my car. Thankfully I was pulling into an end parking space and the curb stopped me from striking another automobile. Gm knows there is an issue as there are numerous complaints. The first time this occurred was in August. It occurred again in January 2019.

18 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving low speeds the brakes failed. The contact used force when depressing the brake pedal. The engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000. Nd.

19 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/19/2019

An intermittent issue where the bakes fail to engage at low speed. I've noticed it when pulling into parking spaces and inching forward in stop and go traffic. It feels as if there is no hydraulic pressure in the system, and I can feel the abs pulsing the pedal when it happens. Took it to the gm dealer - they said the brake vacuum pump is failing. Full replacement of the pump is needed.

20 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/30/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving various speeds, the brakes failed and the contact had to depress the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to stonebriar Chevrolet (9950 t-121, frisco, TX 75035, 214-446-7880) where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that nothing could be done. The failure mileage was approximately 55,768.

21 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

Air conditioner went out unexpectedly this week. Front seat usb charging ports went out as well. A few days later I attempted to stop the car by breaking but the brakes would not engage. The pedal felt very hard as if pressure was acting against the cars ability to brake and stop. I had to push down with all my force to keep the car from crashing into another car on 1-95 in florida. This occurred on November 21st. I was able to manage to get the car back home after traveling for the holiday but the brake failure occurred a dozen more times on both the interstate, surface roads and parking lots by the time we got the car home. The brake assist notification also showed up on the display panel. My family could have been seriously injured or killed! this car is only 3 years old and is not driven that frequently. No reason I should be having these issues. Dealer thinks it is the vacuum pump. Having diagnosed.

22 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

The brakes temporarily fail when applying the brake pedal. The failure is momentarily and happens when the vehicle is at a compete stop as well as at higher speeds. The brake pedal is soft with little to no resistance and will go to the floor and then it will immediately pressurize and it feels like the antilock brakes are actuating. This has happened multiple times in a drive thru and also when approaching a stop at higher speeds. Have had the brake system inspected twice and no problems can be found.

23 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/23/2018

Brakes fail to operate at slow speeds. This happens when I'm pulling into a parking spot at very slow speeds while in motion. This is a severe safety hazard as I can't press the brake pedal to stop.

24 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

I was dropping off my children at school and had my foot on the brake while they unloaded. As I was driving away at a very low speed (3 or 4 mph) I went to brake around a curve in the parking lot and I could not depress my brake. I tried several times before throwing the car into park and slamming on the parking brake to get the car to stop. This occurred in a parking lot full of kids walking by. I was very lucky not to have hit someone. I then released the parking brake and with my foot on the brake tried to put the car in drive and again the brake would not work so I again used the parking brake to stop the car from rolling. At that point I thought I would try to guide the car out of the the way of the buses and children with the emergency brake so I turned it off completely and upon restarting the car the brake was functional again. I am taking the car to chevy today but they say there is no recall on the issue however, in researching what could have happened I have found many similar accounts of brake failure at low speed in 2015 Suburbans. I could have easily killed someone if I hadn't thought quickly to throw the car into park and use the emergency brake.

25 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

27 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/29/2018

Brake system failure, when pressure is applied to brake pedal the system fails and will not stop vehicle. Usually happens at low rate of speed. The first time this happened to us we were reversing our vehicle down a boat ramp. The vehicle wouldn't stop and almost went into the lake. The vehicle had to put in drive to prevent being submerged in water. Took the vehicle to a chevy dealer and the whole braking system had to be replaced. We were told this is a known problem with 2015 Suburban and tahoe vehicles.

28 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/27/2018

There are numerous reports of 2015 Chevrolet Suburban's suffering brake lose. The reports are vacuum pump failure which leads to a stiff or unmovable brake pedal while driving. The brakes are completely inoperable and can obviously lead to a collision. While my vehicle has not experienced this yet, we have a friend who suffered the brake failure described above. In doing some research online, we've discovered this to be a common problem. The complainants describe the problem of a stiff or unmovable brake pedal and total brake lose. Our friend has a 2015 Suburban and was nearly involved in a collision on 6/27/2018. Our research has also shown there are numerous complaints regarding this issue and that gm is aware of the problem. If true, we believe, in the interest of safety, gm should recall these vehicles and rectify the problem immediately.

29 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

Brake failure at speeds below 5 mph. Usually when backing into a parking space. Had to replace failed vacuum pump and hose to fix.

30 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Brakes fail to stop at low speed. Vehicle is in motion. It happens after the pedal is depressed a few times and on the third or fourth time the pedal is hard and is very difficult to stop th vehicle.

31 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/23/2017

While traveling straight at 70 mph on the highway in my 2015 chev Suburban (62k miles) the vehicle experienced a sudden and undetected complete brake system failure. As I approached slowing traffic with the cruise control on, I tapped the brakes to disengage the cruise control, only to find that the brake pedal was rigid and could not be depressed. To avoid a collision at a high rate of speed I swerved onto the right shoulder while using two legs to aggressively push the brake pedal down - all the while feeling very little braking action. The car came to a stop after about 75 meters. At no time before or during the event did the car signal a braking system problem. In fact it still showed no system indicator of a brake problem 3 days later when it was delivered to the dealer for diagnosis. The car has been well maintained, having just undergone a 60k mile service at the dealership. The lack of the vehicle's recognition that a critical failure in the braking system had occurred posed a serious and immediate threat to passengers and surrounding traffic. As a physician I can attest that a collision at that speed would have severely injured or even killed those involved. This problem with the 2015 chev sub has reported to NHTSA before - this is not an isolated event. The service center reported to me that a vacuum pump failure was to blame - I believe this is a more complex engineering problem in that the vehicle did not detect a problem despite the failure creating a life threatening scenario. Although I plan to immediately dispose of this car, failure to address this problem by the manufacturer will put others at risk in the future. Gm appears to have issued a service bulletin that refers to this problem (attached). I sincerely believe this defect will result in lives lost if left unaddressed.

32 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/26/2017

While driving, the dash message alerted me that I needed to "service brake assist. " I was not using the brakes, so I started to slow down and the brakes worked, but when I came to the light, it was like pressing a rock and the pedal would not push down. I had complete brake failure, but thankfully had slowed enough before coming to the light, that I could throw the car into park. I pulled into a parking lot and tapped the brakes several times, turned my car off, turned it back on, put the parking brake on and off. The brakes worked so I began driving very cautiously and stuck to back roads and stayed under 35 mph. The brakes failed twice more at a stop sign and a red light, while I was driving at low speeds. I drove the car one more time a few hours later and had complete brake failure every time I tried to stop. I had to either throw the car into park, or drive into a parking lot to slow down. I had it towed to a service center at the chevy dealership. The vehicle is under 3 years old, has about 60,000 miles on it, has been kept in great condition, has on time oil changes, never been in an accident, and has new tires. The car had no squealing or grinding to show wear and tear, or any other indicator the brakes would fail. The dealership maintains that this is not covered because we are out of warranty, however, we have an extended warranty that we are using to fix this issue. It is unkown the exact cause, because it is at the shop awaiting diagnostics.

33 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/26/2017

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban. While exiting the parking lot at 5 mph, the brakes failed to work without warning. The contact had to change the gear to park in order to stop the vehicle. The failure recurred two more times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

35 Brakes Failed problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/16/2016

While avoiding another vehicle I applied my brakes suddenly. The bake like connecting the abs unit and the rear brakes failed due to corrosion/rust that was not observable due to the line being ran between the vehicles frame and body and gas tank. Although this location might have made for easy manufacturing it has led to the line being in a location that cannot be visually inspected to prevent dangerous conditions from building up from lack of awareness. .
