While slowing from 55mph to make a turn off of state highway, brake system failed at approximately 35mph due to ruptured steel line. Pedal went fully to floor, brakes released and turn off was missed. Thankful nobody was in the way! shocked that this is apparently a common issue with this vehicle at just 13yrs and 150k miles!!.

I was applying the brakes on my 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, model 2500, as I turned into my driveway. The brakes failed to engage. This resulted in the vehicle running into the front of the garage. The brakes now appear to be working fine. The brakes have failed on previous occasions, but never to the point of allowing the vehicle to hit anything. According to the gm dealer, they can't fix the problem without a failure code in the computer. An independent service garage said the same.
Total braking system failure (including emergency brake) on my 2000 chevy Suburban. The day before the incident occurred, I noticed the brake pedal going lower than usual when pressing on it. I checked the fluid reservoir and notice that it was almost empty. I then added fluid to the full line on reservoir and that seemed to solve the problem. Next morning on my way to work, the brakes failed as I was approaching a busy intersection. The pedal went all the way to the floor as I was approaching the intersection at about 20 mph. I pressed hard on the emergency brake on a last failed attempt to stop the vehicle. I shifted to lower gears, reverse, and park without success. There was no traffic ahead on the intersection or traffic on the left or to the right approaching as I made a right turn. The Suburban slowed down on its own to a safe speed where I could turn into a driveway off the busy road. I'm not sure what to do with this vehicle. The mechanic tells me that it will cost over 1000 to fix it.
As I was coming to an intersection with a red light, I went to slow stop from 30 mph and my brakes failed almost causing me to crash into the intersection. When I applied the brakes they did not engage and my brake pedal went to the floor.
Brakes failed today. Steel tubing was found to be perforated along the forward left portion. The remainder of the tubing is substantially corroded and appears subject to failure as well. I see that this failure is the subject of NHTSA action number ea11001 .

The vehicle was being driven on a public road and when approaching a stop sign there were no brakes or pressure on the pedal. Vehicle was put in neutral and coasted to a stop after some evasive driving to avoid other vehicles. The brakes failed again due to corrosion of the fittings. This is the second time with this vehicle. Now replacing all break lines to avoid taking any chances.
Vehicle was coming to a stop from a speed of approximately 30mph and brakes failed suddenly to bring vehicle to a stop a normal rate. Driver needed to swerve off road to avoid collision. Vehicle crashed into side curve. Not warning sign or light was lit before incident. Clear yellowish fluid drained from underneath vehicle near driver's door.

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving 10 mph, the brakes failed to respond. Another vehicle, traveling approximately 50 mph, crashed into the contact¿s vehicle. The air bag failed to deploy. The contact sustained minor injuries. The contact stated that two passengers in the other vehicle sustained major injuries. A police report was filed and medical attention was received. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
I was driving on a paved highway, when the upcoming intersection light turned red. When I applied the brakes the brake pedal was very soft and just kept going all the way to the floor. After the pedal was all the way to the floor then the red warning light came on. I was able to stop the vehicle before entering the intersection and luckily there was no one in front of me. If there had been, I would have hit them. I drove to a nearby truck stop and got some brake fluid, the vehicle took the whole container. I had no fore-warning of any problem with the brake system. I carefully drove home and by the time I got there, approximately 12 miles, my brake fluid was down again and the brakes were failing as I pulled into my drive. Again, the warning light did not come on at any time until I pushed the brake pedal all the way to the floor. My husband looked at the car the next morning and the rear brake linings were corroded and leaking.

November 18 2000 driving to a mc donald's restaurant went to stop and brakes failed. A loud sound of air and the pedal going all the way to the floor. Thank god I was not driving on a main road or my 3 kids and I would have had an accident and possibly injured. I am aware that this problem has happened to others with the same type of vehicle.
Brake failure, abs kicks in under 5 mph. Lost brakes once. Upon reviewing this topic on the below weblink, found out I and a multitude of other chevy truck owners have identical issues. Based on reading the below link, I'm fearful of letting my wife/kids in this vehicle that a possible car accident may happen if the brakes don't work when needed. Please investigate this, I and many others paid a substantial amount of money for products that are defective/life threatening and chevy refuses to correct the problem. Once again, please read the below link, I am not alone. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to park with the trailer attached to the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard and the emergency brake also failed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 135,000. . . Updated 10/19/11 the consumer stated the problem was with the emergency brake only. The brake shoes for the emergency brake, drag and wear out completely, even if the emergency brake pedal is never used. Updated 10/21/11.
Chevrolet Suburban 2003 - complete loss of brakes due to a failed metal break line. Chevrolet dealer has advised me that the break lines throughout the vehicle are defective because of extensive corrosion and not safe to drive. This vehicle has always been parked on a hard surface and never used in an ocean/ salter water environment. This is a gm defective in the vehicle.
My family and I (2 adults and 2 children) along with 2 other boys (age 14) were driving down a hill and experienced a complete brake failure. My husband attempted to stop at a light and discovered that the brakes were inactive. The road declined steeply for some time and it was a nightmare as he tried everything (e. G. , shifting to lower gear, emergency brake, park) to stop the car. As we were close to a major highway and river, my husband had no choice but to stop the car by crashing into an embankment. Given the speed of the vehicle, it was a horrific crash. I'm still recovering from multiple broken bones. My son had to have extensive surgery on his face. We are lucky to be alive. It appears brake failure in this age and model of chevy is not uncommon and the company is aware of this problem. How can they stand aside and risk so many lives? one month prior to the crash, our car had passed its annual inspection at a chevy dealership. No brakes issues were identified. Between the mental and physical chores of recovering, it has taken me this long to gather the energy to write this complaint. Owners should band together to submit a class action lawsuit. Chevy needs to be held accountable. Our family is lucky to be here. We will never purchase another chevy vehicle again.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the brakes locked and the vehicle would only accelerate at a very low speed. The contact continued to drive at a low speed until she heard a loud bang and the vehicle suddenly began to pick up speed. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired nor was the vehicle inspected for the failure. On a later date while driving 45 mph, she applied pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal abnormally depressed into the floorboard. The brakes did not respond and the contact shifted the vehicle into neutral and coasted to a stop. The vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the brake discs had failed. The vehicle was repaired. She also stated that the speedometer was inoperable. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was unknown.
Started getting intermittent brake failure at slow speeds. Abs appears to activate greatly increasing stopping distance. Problem hasn't been resolved.

Brake failure at low speed due to antilock.
According to the NHTSA there is a safety recall on my vehicle (NHTSA # 05v379000). Chevrolet denies any knowledge of this recall (not just my VIN, but the whole recall) and won't even look at my vehicle. My vehicle has been showing this problem for years. I paid $600 last year to repair it, the vehicle still fails and when hitting pothole or bump, the abs is audible and felt through the pedal and the brakes fail and cause the vehicle to continue. Again, chevy refuses to acknowledge there is eve a recall-how do I get them to fix it?.
Brakes shake and vibrate when braking. On occasion, brakes failed and pedal went to the floor. Mechanic inspected found "no problem" with brakes. The last incident with the brakes resulted in an accident when more than enough distance was given for stopping.
Abs . The brakes would go to abs at slow speed and extend stopping distance. Gave the impression of brake failure or fade.
Brakes failed to slow 2004 Suburban during low speed braking in wet weather causing a collision. Abs module is not working correctly in wet environment during a hard stop. I have owned several suvs and have never seen this problem in the others. I have the full dump of the obd speed plots just prior to the crash.
While driving 60 mph vehicle lost power steering, and consumer had difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle. Consumer applied the brake pedal and brakes failed. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The cause of the failure had not been determined.
First time applied brakes at intersection, extented stopping. Brakes checked ok, replaced brakes anyway. Six mo. Latter,
second time, driving 25 mph. Dry, clean paved road. Applied brakes, anti-lock comes on, brakes failed, caused accident. Traveled at least 2 an a half car length before inpact. Suburban checked, only thing found was brake oil read at 190 degrees, after driving 1 mile.
