I was driving on a 70 mile highway when I felt a vibration and then my back right tire tread blew off (in a complete circle) and I was left driving on my rim. All four of my tires and been replaced due to a recall in 2007. Four new tires of the same brand were installed. The same thing is happening on these tires that the original tires were recalled for. I was able to pull off the road safely.

I purchased a set of sigma stampede tires in 2-2007. 3 of the 4 tires purchased had side wal blow outs. I took the tires to where I bought them and the owner said it looked as though there could be a defect. I contacted tbc corp. About the problem and was told that this tire had been recalled but the set I had was the wrong dot #. I then told them 3 out of 4 tires that had no tread damage that blow out the side wall should be looked at I was told to get my receipt and fax it to them and they would make an adjustment on 2 of the tires this was done 2 weeks ago and I have not heard from them . The first tire blew out 11-2008, and I replaced it . The second on 4- 2009and the third on 7-12-2009. They said that I would need all the bad tires for them to look at , but all but 1 cannot be recovered they had me take the remaining tire 34 miles from my home to one of their distributors to look at ,when I went they would not even look at it . This company has done nothing but give me a run-around when all I wanted was to make them aware of a possible problem. They were the pnes that mention an adjustment, and after doing what they asked they will not contact me back.
On Friday oct 1st. Heading out of town the drivers rear tire blew out -the truck is a 2002 Suburban with wilderness le tires. The side-wall blew apart. Fortunatelyi was able to keep the truck under control and pull over. Took it to Chevrolet dealer they said they couldn't do anything. Firestone said they would pro-rate the tire- never really looking or recording the defective tire. Gm is now looking into this and is supposed to get back to me. Since then I purchase 4 new tires (goodyear). Firestone has had recall on wilderness in 2001. The tires were 2001. On this truck. We did keep the tire that is defective.
While driving home from work, my rear passenger firestone wilderness le tire blew out on my 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. The entire side that identifies the make of the tire blew out. The blowout area travels in a perfect circle around the manufacturer identified area. The tread is still in great condition. I was not traveling fast on March 16, 2004, if I was this could have caused a very bad accident or even fatality. I travel with this vehicle to florida twice a year at speeds of up to 80 mph. I am very concerned about the spare and remaining three tires. Please let me know if there have been any other reported cases regarding this make of tire. Also, is there contact information to contact firestone tire?.
While driving 65 mph front passenger side tire blew out. Firestone, steeltex radial a/t tire.

I was driving westbound on the western ky parkway on 10/13/2002 at about 2200. Roads conditions were dry and temperature approx 55f. I experienced a sudden vibration, followed by the sound of a flat tire. I was able to safely slow ease my vehicle over into the emergency lane (right shoulder). I definitely had a flat. Upon inspection I was horrified. The tire was smoking to the point I barely see it. I could smell burning tire. I did not see any flame and the smoke quit within about 20-30 seconds. The side wall of this tire was blown out, nearly separated and hanging by tire cord. . Read more...
The tire blew up - completetly disintergrated without warning - the pressure had been checked before the trip and no road hazrards were noticed - however the car following noted the tire looked low before it blew - so it had to have lost pressure during the @10 miles and then disentergrated.

While driving 75 mph the rear right tire blewout, there was a fist size whole on the side of the tire where the tread and sidewall meet (2001 Chevrolet Suburban, p265/70r16 spec # 155ms, original tires on the vehicle)firestone wilderness le. Nlm.
I took new Suburban in twice for vibrations and pulling. Chevrolet claimed nothing wrong. Tire blew out on 12/26/01. Chev said that it was not there problem. Firstone said they would replace the one tire but that chev had to pay for damage to SUV. Chev said they will not as they can not see inside of a tire. Now the 800 firestone says I have to mail in the tire and they will investagate as to if it was a tire defect. The local firestone already said it was. Attorney said not to mail in the tire. Firestone refuses to fix damage and to buy tires back that are only 5 months old. These people should be put out of business. Local firestone says they will buy tires for 25 dollars each only if I replace them with more firestone tires. I have a 40k SUV I refuse to drive because of firestone. I want the SUV fixed and tires put on from another company. (tiresize: p26570r-16).
While driving about 70mph left front tire blewout. Sidewall blewout, and part of tread came off. Had not called goodyear. Tire size p245/75r16. Goodyear tire, 38 psi, consumer states the road was dry and there was no debris on the road.
I blew out the original tire on my Suburban in sept, and spent $112. 00 for a brand new replacement, and blew that tire out in November, the guy who put on my spare told me that there were problems with these tires splitting, or blowing, so I am having all of them replaced tomorrow. . . I talked to goodyear people here in haskell, and they say there is no warranty on them,, so it is my loss,, I dont think this is right. . And if these are defective I think someone, either the dealership or someone should replace them. . . . And goodyear should stand behind them,,,these tires are not safe<, please ,look into this and adivse thanks much,,jennabeth kimbrough, jkimbr8751@aol. Com.
Tire blew out- no apparent reason, photos available. (tiresize: p26570r16).
The first problem that I had with theses tires was back in July of 2000. On both of the front tires the belts had broken at that time the truck had about 12,000 miles on it. The problem was caught before any separation had happened. Then on 8/17/01 I was driving on i215 and the truck pulled hard to the right and there was a loud bang. I brought the truck back under control and pulled over to the shoulder and got out. I walked around to the front right side and the tire had separated, it didn't go flat. Then exactly a week later I had the left front tire blowout. This tire was in pieces. After the first separation I called firestone and was told to take it to a firestone dealer in my area to have the rest of the tires looked at. I did that I took it to ted wiens on warm springs. At that time I spoke with courtney he came out looked at the first tire and said since I was claiming product liability for the damage to my truck he said all he would do is replace the tire and nothing more. I asked him to please look at the others he told me there was nothing more he could do. So I left bought the tire somewhere else and had it mounted and the others checked. I was told at that time the tires seemded fine no sidwall damage and plenty of tread. Then I have the 2nd seperation. I went back to ted wiens and spoke to the owner carlos. He took the truck to the back looked at the remaing 2 tires said the tread was at 10/32 no side wall damage and called firestone. Firestone told him since the tires had no cracking they would do nothing. He did replace these tires for me. Firestone would not. I feel let down both by firestone and Chevrolet. I had no choice as to what kind of tires would be on the truck when I bought it. Neither one is now to eager to help me. I have $5,000. 00 in damage to a leased vehicle and no one willing to step up and help. (dot number: v611b1a468 tiresize: lt24575r16).
Not towing trailer, felt vibration pulled over to check tire could not see defect went 3miles tire shop, tire separation, I had blow out on another Suburban 1 week before I knew what was happening before tire blew, tire replace with another firestone at dealer in palmdale calif. Two firestone r4s tires have failed on vehicle, the left rear tire developed a blister and the right rear tire experienced a blowout while driving at about 35 mph, tire size is lt245/75r16 and the dot number is v611b1a, consumer still has tires for observation.
Rr tire blew out. No road hazard seen. No foriegn object found in tire. (tiresize: p265 70r16)( dot number: tire size: p265 70r16 ).
I was driving on the highway at about 70 miles per hour. I was about 106 degrees outside. My right front tire blew out. It disintegrated. I crossed two lanes of traffic before the car came to a halt. I have no idea why I'm even alive. I had aaa change the tire. A local tire place replaced the blown tire with an identical one. At the time I asked if my tires were part of the recall. They assured me they were not. Now I hear you are looking into the exact tires I have. . . The exact one that disintegrated on me on the highway. I thought you should know it happened to me as well. Please let me know if my tires end up on the recall list. I have no confidence in my car now-especially with my three children. Thank you for your time. Milly woodhouse. (dot number: r4s tiresize: 16 inch).
The tire blew out while driving at highway speed. The entire side wall blew out completly. The police said they had never seen such a failure before. I am concerned that this is related to the current firestone tire defects. This vehicle is used to transport children with and there were 4 occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Luckily no one was injured. ( dot number: tire size: lt24575r16 ).
While on vacation had two tires blow out on i75 just south of atlanta. Had to purchase new tires from the firestone dealer on the south side of atlanta. They said this tire was not in the recall list but it came apart just like the others. It was a very, very scary experience the tires that blew out were purchased at the firestone dealer on us41 in fort myers, FL. Which is my home. (tiresize: 245/75r/16)( dot number: tire size: 245/75r/16 ).
We had a tire blowout on a vacation (7/6/00) on new york state thruway;six children and wife were in car at 55 miles per hour; I was able to safety get car to side of road. My dealer replaced tire with matching tire. It turns out all tires are the recalled firestone tires verified by a firestone dealer. I am on a waiting list for replacements. I am upset because I have seen same tires on other Suburbans around my area and all the fuss is about Ford. A slower reaction on my part could have meant my 6 children hurt. Thought I would finally report to somebody for record. ( dot number: tire size: p235/75r15 ).
Kathleen demeter, director office of defects investigations national highway traffic & safety administration 400 seventh street sw washington, DC 20590 dear kathleen I am writing on behalf of the second petition from lisoni & lisoni concerning the firestone steeltex class action suit. It is my desire that the NHTSA allow that suit to proceed and stand on its own merit in the courts. I bought a new 1999 Chevrolet Suburban in Nov of 1999 which came equipped with four lt245-75r-16 firestone steeltex tires on the ground and one spare. This vehicle was 100% dealer maintained and never ran off of paved roads. It primarily traveled from the la area or las vegas to lake tahoe. I have homes in all three areas and travel between them. During the course of these trips over the last several years, I have had three high speed blowouts and two tire tread separations. That is five for five of the tires firestone built and were delivered on my vehicle. I am in my mid 60s and have driven autos since I was 16 and have never had this type of substandard performance on any auto that I have ever owned. My major dissatisfaction and the reason for this letter is the total disregard firestone acknowledged in any of my several letters of loss claim with them. To this date, all I ever received from firestone was assurance their product was safe and that any problems that I was having was the fault of my misuse of their product. This total disregard for consumer safety and customer satisfaction needs correcting or this company should not be allowed to do business in our country. Please make firestone defend their customer commitment in court. Thank you jack t stone, jr. 319 makin Ave. Palmdale, CA 93551.
The tire blew while turning left on an up hill curve. Approximately 95% of the front sidewall shredded. No visable defects in the sidewall or tread. This occured after 3. 5 hours of continuous driving at speeds from 55 - 75. ( dot number: vn11bab tire size: p245/75r16 ).
Tire blowout on hwy 59 in houston, while traveling 65-70 mph, rear passenger side tire, replace tire.
While driving south on I-81 on the 4th of July weekend, with my wife and child, we were near blacksburg, va. We were in a construction zone and were drive approximately 60 mph. Our left front tire began to shake, so we pulled to the side of the highway. A large portion of the side wall on the tire had been blown out. I believe it was lucky for us that we were in a construction zone at the time and not traveling at a higher rate of speed. We do not have photos or the tire, but the man at the firestone store said he'd never seen anything like it before. (dot number: vnii bab38 tiresize: 247/75r16).

Vehicle was equipted with firestone wilderness tires. While traveling at 70mph tires completely blewout. Dealer replaced the tires free of charge.
Purchased vehicle in November 1998, in early March 1999 the vehicle had been driven about 4000 miles. On interstate 240, 1 mile south of the I-40 junction, the right rear tire blew out. I was able to safely get off of the highway and to a firestone dealer at the intersection of I-40 and I-240. Before taking the tire off of the vehicle, I took pictures of the remains of the tire. Do you have an interest in these photographs? (dot number: v611b1a tiresize: lt24575r16).

While traveling less than 5 mph in a "rolling backup" the right rear tire on our Suburban literally exploded. I pulled off the side of the road immediately, and found a very large hole in the sidewall of the tire. There were no foreign objects in the road, and no indication of any kind of puncture to the tire. The sidewall of the tire blew outward, and left a hole approximately 4" wide by 7 inches long. The vehicle was less than two months old, and had approxmately 1200 miles on it. I had the vehicle in for its first oil change 3 days earlier, and among other things had the tire pressure checked. I contacted a local firestone dealer about replacing the tire, and was told that they could not replace the tire with an exact match, since that particular line of tires (steeltex at) was a tire made exclusively for gm trucks as original equipment. I contacted the gm dealer (gilchrist Chevrolet in tacoma wa) and they replaced the tire at no charge. With the recent revelations about firestone tire defects, I am concerned about the firestone tires on my Suburban. The "steeltex at" series has not been mentioned in any of the news reports, but I know of one other person who has had similar problems with the firestone steeltex tires on his gm truck. ( dot number: tire size: p265r16 ).
