37 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

This is a recurring problem with my 2014 Suburban z-71 4x4, first occurring at 2735 miles, and again at 19,367, 19,420, and 20,435 miles. While driving at or above 45 mph, the vehicle has exhibited the following symptoms: loss of power while the "check engine," "stabiltrak" and "traction control" warning lights appear. The vehicle information center reads "traction control: off / stabiltrak: off" followed by "service traction control" and "service stabiltrak. " the readout then shows "engine power reduced. " the vehicle will not maintain highway speeds, and requires flooring the accelerator and or shifting the transmission into "manual" mode in order to maintain a safe highway speed. Rpms exceed 3500 unless using manual transmission function. After re-starting the vehicle, some or all warning lights eventually disappear, and the vehicle appears to return to normal. When I took the vehicle to the dealer after the first incident, the vehicle was in service for four and a half days, and was returned with the following comments:". . . Looked into si and found a pip saying wiggle wires at different spots. Wiggled wires and drove no problems drove well [sic]. No cel on. " the tech drove the vehicle for 30 miles and had no problems. A comment on my invoice stated "had pi stating that tech would probably not be able to duplicate concern - checked connectors as per ml. " initial response from service department on current problem set is that they plan to replace parts associated with the accelerator.

38 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/24/2014

Accelerating in traffic on a three lane road. At approximately 30 mph, the vehicle power steering, brakes, and acceleration locked up. I could barely turn the wheel and the brake pedal was unresponsive. I could not accelerate at all. I was able to muscle the car into a parking lot and jam on the breaks to coast to a stop. The power was still on on the car, but the ac was not blowing as hard. After a restart, it worked normally.

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

2005 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle odometer problems. The consumer began having problems with the speedometer approximately 2 years ago. Intermittently, the needle on the odometer would climb above the actual speed he was traveling, then move up and down tens of miles above the actual speed, at times, it would rise to 120 and remain there. When he turned the vehicle off and on again, it worked fine, until the next time.

42 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

While driving, vehicle suddenly goes into "reduced engine power" mode ("limp mode") with console message "traction contol disabled, service stabilitrak, engine power reduced". Generally occurs when temperatures are lower than 25 degrees farenheit. Shutting down vehicle for several minutes and restarting leads to normal operation, however vehicle will generally repeat same problem within 5-15 minutes if outside temperature is cold enough (below 25 degrees farenheit) . Error code p1235 (throttle position sensor 1-2 correlation. . . ) is set, but may not persist in memory. Gm is providing owners with additional protections for 10 years/120,000 miles under csc-10047220-3332 (bulletin no. 11273), however not all vins are included. Vehicle had throttle body (including sensor) replaced in 2010 and appears to be exhibiting exact problems covered by this bulletin, however gm dealer and gm are not extending protection for this vehicle. Dealer is recommending another new throttle position sensor and/or throttle body (including sensor), along with computer reset. This intermittent problem has occurred for more than three years and poses a significant safety risk when the vehicle is in motion at normal highway speeds (drastic sudden deceleration in traffic).

43 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

When braking or slowing down this Suburban acts like it wants to keep going, like a jerking motion forward and back, making the stop hard, as if it is trying to accelerate and brake at the very same time, because the rpms are constantly moving up and down switching from v4 to v8 mode. Going down hills and going up an short inclines the vehicle does the same jerking motion, forward and back until I come to a complete stop. When taking off and keeping a low speed under 35 mph the vehicle cannot maintain the speed, it acts like it wants to stop ( it never has died) but I have to punch the accelerator to get the vehicle to pick up its speed again. While I was in a school pick up line just coasting along around 10 mph, my foot was not on the accelerator or brake and the vehicle moved forward on its own. The issues seem to all happen at a low speed, from 0-40mph. I have taken this vehicle in to the Chevrolet dealership on several occasions for the same issues as I have described above. Each time they are unable to duplicate the issue. My biggest aggravation is that this vehicle does not do this every time I drive it, which makes it difficult to be duplicated. I am concerned that when I am coming to a stop that the vehicle will not stop and rear end another vehicle. This issue started around 2000 miles and has continued to this day, currently this vehicle has 7500 miles on it.

44 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

Speedometer reads that I'm going faster than I am. I cannot tell how fast I am going. When the vehicle is off it registers 10mph. This concerns me greatly since this is my only vehicle and I have three children that ride with me everywhere I go. I researched this on the internet have found many many problems with the speedometer on this vehicle. Should be a recall. This is dangerous!!!!.

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

The driver was sitting at the stop light for approximately one minute. Both the driver and passenger heard a revving noise. The driver's right foot remained on the brake. She never put her foot on the gas pedal, yet the vehicle accelerated forward into the intersection. The Suburban was struck on the driver's side by a truck, spun and was hit again on the front of the vehicle. The driver sitting at the light behind our Suburban agreed that our car was at a complete stop when it suddenly went into the intersection. The Suburban was deemed totaled by our insurance company.

The entire control panel on the dash will go out including: speedometer, rpm, gas, oil, etc. When this happens the message center, including the odometer, is blank also. At first this happened periodically upon starting up the vehicle it would not come on but would come own a few minutes after driving. Then it started not coming on at all.

48 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

2007 Suburban vehicle came to a stop 25ft behind several stopped cars at a red light. Without provocation, the vehicle strongly accelerated/surged forward while the brakes were engaged. Driver continued to attempt to stop the vehicle by repeatedly hitting the brake pedal, but with no success. Passenger in vehicle reported seeing drivers foot on the brake. Vehicle accelerated forward into the back of another vehicle which was then pushed into a third. All three vehicles suffered damage. Airbags failed to deploy in Suburban despite level of impact. Vehicle was taken to Chevrolet dealer for complete diagnostic. Results inconclusive; no data errors recorded in computers and no apparent mechanical attribute could be found relating to vehicle action. Action could not be repeated by technician. Vehicle released to owner. No explanation could be given as to this action. Dealer did not follow up or continue investigation.

50 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/18/2012

I have been dealing with this problem with the abs system for over 2 years and have replaced all the sensors brakes and hubs on my Suburban, I have been reading all the customer complaints and chevy is well aware of this issue. My abs system runs when it wants prevents my car from properly stopping and when I reported the issue they told me to pull the fuse so the pump would shut off, so I am driving around with no abs system and we just had the sensors replaced again as well as the hub and the same thing is happening with the pulsating of the break peddle and the running pump I would think chevy would do a recall with all the complaints. .

51 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/06/2012

Was driving at a very low rate of speed; trying to stop when what felt like the antilock brakes kicked on and the message "traction active" appeared on my console. This made it very difficult to control and stop the vehicle. Then when trying to accelerate, vehicle would lug down and not want to go. There was also a noise, like a pump or something when trying to brake or accelerate. Turning off the stabilitrack seems to stop this from happening, which in turn means I do not have antilock brakes. This is a huge safety issue, especially if trying to merge, pass through an intersection or while driving at a high rate of speed.

52 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

The engine light would come on and immediately the stability system disengage light would come on also. The vehicle would go down to approximately 1500 rpm and drop the speed to 50-55 mph, on the freeway. The speed limit is 65 and we were in the middle lane of 3 lanes. It has happened numerous times now. I have taken the vehicle to a mechanic 3 times. A diagnostic test was ran each time and every time there different codes that pop up, one different from the previous.

54 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

I have a chevy Suburban 2005 my speedometer has stopped working. I also have a 2005 duramax that this has happened to. I would like to see a full blown recall placed on all GMC/chevy vehicles. Apparently these are hundreds of thousands people with this issue across the u. S. / world according to forums I have been on. While there is a class action lawsuit out there for a very limited group of GMC vehicles, making lawyers rich. Instead of taking care of the people whom make this world actually run. This issue needs to seriously looked into. My next step is to get the media involved showing how again the average consumer can get screwed by the big companies. I am not keeping my mouth shut about this. Thank you.

55 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/09/2011

At random you will just be driving down the road and a message comes on that says reduce engine power and the t/c light comes on along with the check engine light. This has happened several times, is very unsafe, and is getting worse. We have had work done to try and fix the problem but its still happening. We don't have tons of money to fix this, live in the country, and have 5 kids. This is our only transportation and we have a rather large loan on the thing and its turning into yard art.

57 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

I started the homeward segment of an 800 mile trip on July 4th weekend. Speed odometer appears to be working correctly because I made it through the first police radar checkpoint without any problems. I exited the interstate and entered a 4 lane highway. After driving an estimated 50 miles for the day I was stopped by the state police. He said that his radar had me going 74 in a 55 speed zone when me speed odometer indicated 55 mph. When the officer informed me of my speed, I looked at my speed odometer and saw the needle was below 0 mph. The scary part of this is that I did not realize that I was going over the speed limit, probably because I was acclimated to the higher interstate speed, my speed odometer indicated I was traveling the speed limit, and up until this time I had no indication that my speed odometer was not working properly. I continued with the trip and used my gps to keep me at a safe speed the rest of the trip. I compared the speed odometer mph with the gps mph many times throughout the rest of the trip. The speed odometer went down to 0 mph when I was driving 65 mph after driving an estimated additional 40 miles. After driving an additional 30 miles the speed odometer was indicating the correct speed. The speed odometer malfunctioned about 70% of the trip. It would alternate between not working correctly and working correctly throughout the trip. I took the vehicle to the chevy dealer the first business day back home. The dealer said the whole instrument cluster must be replaced. I authorized the dealer to replace the instrument cluster and the defective instrument cluster is going back to be refurbished. This failure compromised not only my safety but also my family's safety and the safety of other drivers. Researching the internet, I am finding this problem seems to be widespread.

58 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/21/2011

I went to washington auto show today 2/4/2012 and one of your rep gave me a card about your service. I came home and check out your website and found out you have been receiving complaints about instrument panel of chevy Suburban. I bought a 2005 chevy Suburban in March 2005 from win kelly chevorlet in clarksville, MD. About middle of last year I noticed that my speedometer is always stuck, running high than the speed I am driving and just exactly as being described by other owners of these vehicles. What is the department doing to help with this manufacturer's defect and have it corrected rather than we consumers being saddled with unexpected repair cost?.

59 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact noticed a warning light illuminated that indicated a loss of engine power and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after removing the key from the ignition and waiting several minutes. The vehicle was equipped with on-star and the on-star representative advised that the throttle body sensor had caused the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician advised that the throttle body sensor would need to be replaced and the computer would need to be rebooted. The vehicle was repaired and the dealer covered the costs of repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 41,500.

60 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

The speedometer is completely gone along with several gauges such as the oil, gas, and rpm meters. I am unable to tell how much gas I have or how fast I am going. This has happened a lot to these vehicles over the past 10 years. Gm offered a repair but only for vehicles who were not over a certain mileage. This is a safety issue and needs to be repaired in all vehicles. Additional, the electrical system is out of whack. My heated seats turn all the way up to high without me pressing anything. My tv system is not working. Everything seems to be falling apart.

61 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/28/2011

2005 chevy surburban speedometer (55,549 miles)is not working properly. Speed varies when car is in use making it unsafe to drive. I don't know what the actual speed is at times/and sometimes the speed drops to zero and stays in this setting.

62 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact was driving 70 mph when the reduce engine power stability warning message displayed as the vehicle abnormally decelerated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised that the throttle body, throttle body sensors and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The remedy failed to repair the problem. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 183,632.

63 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/03/2009

My '03 Chevrolet Suburban has developed what appears to be a very common condition where the entire instrument cluster becomes inoperable. For example, while traveling at low, in town speeds, the speedometer will have readings in the 60s, 70s' and 80s. While in the park position, the speedometer will read 55mph. This is absolutely a safety issue and I am really shocked that the NHTSA hasn't forced a recall. There are literally thousands of reports online of this exact problem. General motors is aware that this is a wide spread problem, as they even extended. General motors even provided owners with a special coverage that extends the warranty on the instrument panel cluster for the condition described above, as long as the vehicles age and mileage falls within certain parameters. Those parameters are the main reason for my complaint. Those parameters are 1) 7 years of the in service date, and 2) 70,000 miles, which ever occurs first. My claim to have the instrument cluster in my vehicle repaired under the special coverage was denied on 9/4/09 because the mileage of my vehicle was 93,000 miles at the time of my request. I believe that this is a large scale safety problem that warrants a recall by general motors rather than an extension of warranty with unreasonable mileage parameters. Extending the warranty alone is a clear admission of a known widespread issue. Is NHTSA in bed with gm too? I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

64 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/17/2008

2003 chevy z71 sub speed odometer is not working correctly. Will work one day and be off by more than 80mph the same day. Gm will not do anything to assist and can lead to accident as well as tickets as we have no idea of what speed we are traveling.

65 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/08/2008

I purchased my vehicle last year and I am having problems with my speedometer and my rpm gage. I was driving and my speedometer just kept moving up and finally it just got stuck at 120. It doesn't move from there and it is a very big safety issue. My wife uses the vehicle mostly and is on the freeway quite a bit and its a concern because you have no idea what your speed. We are basically guessing and that isn't safe for me or my kids. We have contact our dealer were we purchased it and I would have to pay $100. 00 for the deductible. I have looked in several different websites (edmunds. Com) regarding this issue an was very surprised to see that there are many people with the same problem and frustrated that chevy won't fix the problem. There is an obvious malfunction and it should be replaced at there cost not the consumers. My vehicle has only 57000 miles and this should not be occurring. I also have a 1994 chevy truck and it has never experienced problem like this. I really hope someone can help with this problem.

66 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/28/2007

My 2003 chevy Suburban speed odometer is malfunctioning. When at a complete stop it reads 30 mph and when driving on the highway it will go to 120mph and sometimes past that. Vehicle just hit 50000 miles. This is very dangerous safey problem that can lead to accidents and speeding tickets caused by a known malfunction in gm vehicles. The cost of repairing this problem is very expensive and should not be an out of pocket expense.

67 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/26/2007

Every morning when I start the car, it "lunges" forward. This has only happened 3 or 4 times during the day but it does happen every morning. I keep the car in the garage so when it does move forward it is only a couple of inches, but when I am in a parking lot, I make sure to leave plenty of room between cars so I do not hit anyone. I have owned this vehicle since Jan. 07 and this just started in November.

The speedometer has gone out. I have read many entries on a website that this wa s an ongoing problem with Chevrolet tahoes. , and the price to get it fixed ranged from $400 to $1000. That was a bit to expensive. I think there needs to be a recall . This car is only 3 years old. This shouldn't be happening.
