1 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at a slow speed and attempting to apply the brakes the vehicle responded as if the anti-lock braking system was engaged. A mechanic stated that the speed sensor on the wheels may have been defective. The contact stated that failure was directly related to the service brake recall for the anti-lock brakes on the 2000-2002 Chevrolet Tahoe under campaign number 05v379000. The failure mileage was 119,000. The current mileage was 125,000.

2 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2007

Own a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. Abs light showed code for left front speed sensor. Replaced with sensor and the brake petal stiffened when applied and is making a squeaky sound while driving 5 mph or coming to a stop or to slow down for a speed bump. The current mileage is 91,780 & the failure mileage was 91,588.

3 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. During deceleration, the antilock system engages and the vehicle will not stop. The contact had two minor crashes and the vehicle sustained damage to the bumper both times. The dealer replaced the speed sensors in March of 2007. In January of 2008, the failure recurred. The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving 5 mph, the brakes began to grind when depressed. The contact feels that her vehicle is experiencing the same failure noted in closed investigation # pe05020 regarding the wheel speed sensor. The contact has notified the manufacturer. The current mileage is 105,000 and failure mileage was 103,000.

1999 Chevrolet Tahoe is plagues with activation of the abs system at low speeds (ie bumper to bumper traffic or slowing to a stop sign/traffic light) when the abs system engages thedriver has no input to the brakes and the stopping distance is greatly increased leading to possible and likely crashes. I happens intermittantly, but numerous times daily! dealer is aware of an existing recall involving 1999-2002 gm vehicles from my area. . But will not cover my $700 for repairs that shoul dbe covered by the recall (NHTSA # 05v379000 wheel speed sensors).

Gm re call notice # 05068b - front wheel speed sensor corrosion - multiple chevy, GMC vehicles; my 1999 Tahoe was excluded from the re call yet had exhibited the same exact failure mechanism; car was un safe to drive as abs activation occurs without reason and car would not stop; I replaced sensors at my own expense, but gm will not recognize the re call as being applicable to my 1999 chevy Tahoe. I asked gm service center for coverage on the re call but they refused.

Abs speed sensors are faulty as per a recall on 1999 chevy Tahoes, gm states that my vehicle is not part of the recall, I went to the dealership, the told me they could lube and clean the parts, then they told me they were frozen and would have to be replaced. Since I didn't have the extra money they offered to unplug the abs sensors so they would not kick inn. I am not sure how they can guarantee that the parts on my car are not the faulty ones that were placed on the vehicle at the factory.

: the contact stated while attempting to apply brake pressure there was an increase in stopping distance. This occurred at low speeds on normal roads without warning. The dealer determined the wheel speed sensors needed to be replaced. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the service brakes hydraulic antilock. The VIN was not included in the recall.

9 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2006

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving approximately 4 mph, the vehicle lunged forward. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where the wheel speed sensor and wheel bearing hubs were replaced. After the vehicle was repaired the failure continued. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

: the contact stated the abs was engaging at 10mph with increased the stopping distance. The vehicle was taken to the local service dealer for repair and cleaning of the wheel speed sensor. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the abs. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. Updated 03/22/06.

11 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

There has been a recall issued for 2000-2002 Tahoe for front wheel speed sensor corrosion (product safety recall 05068) from gm. This should have also included the 1999 Tahoe. This abs issue is currently happening to my Tahoe. Its been occurring since the middle of 2005. I heard of the upcoming safety recall back in August 2005. But when I took my 1999 Tahoe to the dealership, they stated my VIN# was not on the list for recalls. When I looked deeper into this recall, it only includes 2000-2002 Tahoe. I know of this happening on another 1999 Tahoe sport. It would be nice to have gm expand the recall coverage to include all 1999 Tahoe.

12 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Vehicle goes into abs mode at slow speed stop. On dry driveway almost ran into my own door. Took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer and brake system was inspected. Found it necessary to replace both front speed sensors. Also had to replace 1 broken caliper bolt as necessary. Total cost $697. 47. Recall was issued for 1. 35 million trucks and suvs for brake sensors. Our truck being a 1999 Tahoe was not covered. All other chevy trucks were.

13 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

: the contact stated the abs activates at low speeds of 3 to 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. Upon inspection both wheel speed sensors were corroded due to salt on the highway. There is a NHTSA recall, 05v379000 regarding the anti lock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The consumer stated the abs warning light never illuminated. Updated 03/03/06.

14 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2005

Beginning in July, the consumer had a problem with the brakes during low speed brake applications. When approaching a stop sign, the brakes would grab. The brake pedal would fluctuate. There was a feeling like being on ice. The problem happened about 85-90 percent of the time. The problem became worse with time. The consumer checked on the recall 05v379000. His vehicle identification number was not included according to the dealer. They stated that the owner has the old wheel speed sensors and those were not affected by the recall. The consumer would like to alert NHTSA that his vehicle still has the exact problem listed in the recall. The consumer has not repaired it yet. The consumer has almost rear ended a car due to the abs activation and extended stopping distance. Update 1/11/2006 -.

15 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2005

Constant activation of abs brakes due to corrosion between the front hub/bearing assembly and/or the speed sensor being defective. This issue is being addressed by gm on some vehicles but they won't fix mine because they say it's not in the VIN number range. The problem is very real and very dangerous. It started almost 12 months ago, and I was told to wait for the state of wisconsin to be added to the recall list, they have added wisconsin but have selected certain VIN numbers only that the bulletin applies to.
